I went looking for a slightly special dinner in Magok, and ended up at Don Tamguso. I was curious because it lets you enjoy pork in a way quite different from the usual, and once I visited, each dish turned out to have a really fun structure.

It felt less like a typical meat restaurant and more like slowly working through a tasting course, so I think it'd suit anyone hunting for a good Magok date restaurant too.

## Where is Don Tamguso, and is there parking?

Don Tamguso sits on Magok-jungang 6-ro, an easy walk from Magok Station on Line 5, so it's pretty accessible. You can also get there from Magongnaru Station or Balsan Station, and there's basement parking in the building, which made driving over convenient too.

There are plenty of cafés and other restaurants nearby, so it's easy to build a whole date around the meal. If you're planning a date near Magok Station, this is worth checking out.

## What comes with the 58,000 won Don Tamguso dinner course?

First up was the soup — forgot the name, ha — but it was so smooth. It just melts, melts.

### Molecular gastronomy salad

After the soup came the salad. Unlike a regular salad, the plating alone was pretty. Colorful ingredients topped with a soft foam-style sauce made it fun to look at, and overall it felt light and refreshing, a good way to start the course.

They said it was molecular gastronomy — I was too absorbed in eating to catch the full explanation, ha, sorry. But it was so good.

### Shiitake mushroom lasagna

Next was the shiitake mushroom lasagna. Big chunks of shiitake with cheese and a tomato base worked better together than I expected. Getting lasagna in a pork omakase felt like a fun twist too.

The shiitake aroma paired nicely with the savory cheese — a genuinely fun dish for me.

### Shio koji grilled pork tenderloin

Then came the shio koji pork tenderloin, grilled soft while keeping the clean, lean flavor of tenderloin. Eaten with the vegetables on the side, it was light and never greasy.

I liked that it wasn't just the same pork flavor over and over — they varied the cooking method and flavor direction each time. This one... honestly... the best!!!

### Peking-duck-style grilled pork belly

Next was the Peking-duck-style pork belly. Thinly sliced pork belly grilled crisp gave a totally different feel from regular grilled samgyeopsal.

Crisp outside, juicy inside — a nice contrast, and eaten with the accompaniments it felt like something new. The minari (water dropwort) was the real kicker.

### Handmade burger and Wando abalone risotto

For the main, you choose between a mini burger and risotto, but we ordered one of each and split them. Honestly — you should just get both. The small burger packed meat, cheese and bacon into one bite-sized package.

Having a mini burger suddenly show up in a tasting menu was fun, and the change of pace from the earlier dishes kept the course from ever feeling monotonous.

The Wando abalone risotto. After a course built mostly around pork, an abalone dish felt like a nice change of direction. The abalone's flavor came through and it finished savory and filling — a solid main.

And at the very end came today's dessert, wrapping the course up neatly.

That final dessert — absolutely perfect finish!!!

## Don Tamguso's atmosphere and prices

Inside, Don Tamguso was clean and cozy overall. There are bar seats alongside table seats, so you can choose depending on group size or mood, and the soft lighting gave it a distinctly different feel from a loud, smoky BBQ joint.

The space isn't large, which actually made it good for a quiet meal — a fitting atmosphere for a date or an anniversary dinner where you want to take your time.

## Is Don Tamguso worth it? Final verdict

Don Tamguso felt less like a simple grill-it-yourself pork place and more like a course restaurant that lets you enjoy pork through a variety of cooking methods. From salad to lasagna, tenderloin, pork belly, mini burger and abalone, the lineup kept shifting so it never got boring, and I liked being able to take each dish slowly.

If you want a slightly special dinner in Magok rather than an ordinary meal, this seems like a solid choice. The quiet, cozy atmosphere especially makes it one I'd recommend to anyone looking for a Magok date restaurant near Magok Station.

If you're after a different kind of pork omakase in Magok, give Don Tamguso a try.
