## Where is Idobonga in Daejeon?

Idobonga is a stone-grilled galbi (grilled short rib) and galbijjim (braised short rib) restaurant in the Sky Palace building at 31 Oryu-ro, Jung-gu, Daejeon. It's right next to Seodaejeon Station, just a minute's walk, so it's handy for a meal before or after a train ride, and the spacious dining room makes it a good spot for group meals or gatherings too.

With the temperature swings and viruses going around these days, you really need a hearty meal!!! And when I think 'hearty,' meat is always the first thing that comes to mind. Today I visited Idobonga in Oryu-dong, Daejeon. Let me walk you through it! ☺️

## Parking at Idobonga and what the dining room is like

Idobonga offers up to 3 hours of free parking in the building's B1 lot reserved for shop customers, which made it easy to visit by car. There are various event notices posted at the entrance, so it's worth taking a look and grabbing any perks on offer.

Once inside, the dining room turned out to be spacious with plenty of tables, so it looked good not just for family meals but for group gatherings or company dinners too. There's a baby chair available, and reservations and group bookings are possible!

They also give a ₩2,000 discount on galbitang (short rib soup) takeout for 2–3 servings :)

## Idobonga menu and the price of stone-grilled galbi

What we ordered that day was stone-grilled galbi for two at ₩36,000 (includes rice and doenjang stew). Besides stone-grilled galbi, there's a wide range of hearty options: green onion beef bulgogi, galbijjim, spicy galbijjim, sura galbi hot pot, galbitang, bibimbap, and more.

- Stone-grilled galbi comes in a soy-based version or a gochujang (red pepper paste) version
- Galbijjim and spicy galbijjim let you choose various toppings
- You can also choose the spice level for the spicy galbijjim

Each table has a mallet-style bottle opener plus salt and pepper. Idobonga also runs a membership points system. Events and membership both — nice touch from the owner!

## Banchan (side dishes) and the self-serve bar

Not long after ordering, the food was laid out, and the range of banchan (side dishes) was bigger than I expected. Kimchi, jellyfish salad, sautéed mushrooms, pickles, soy-braised eggs, corn salad, sweet pumpkin salad — lots of sides that go well alongside the meat.

When you're eating meat, it's always better to have a variety of sides to mix in rather than just meat alone, and with this many kinds it was fun picking through them. You can grab more from the self-serve bar, and there's a customer microwave too, which was great! Idobonga is a solid Seodaejeon Station restaurant to visit even with kids :)

## Doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) with blue crab

The main dishes arrived! I expected a plain doenjang (soybean paste) stew, but it had crab in it, and the broth was so refreshing. The savory doenjang flavor combined with the sweet brininess of crab made it perfect to spoon up between bites of meat. The galbi has a sweetish glaze, so alternating with the stew was a great match. 👍

## Stone-grilled galbi for two: portion size and taste

The stone-grilled galbi came out quickly too. It arrived piled generously on a hot stone plate, beautifully grilled, topped with plenty of scallion and sesame seeds. Onions were laid underneath too — eating them together with the meat made it even tastier.

The meat wasn't tough at all, tender and easy to eat. The seasoning wasn't overly strong either, sweet and salty in a way both adults and kids would like. And even though it's meant for two, the portion was quite generous — with rice and sides, the two of us ate until we were full.

We also wrapped bites in cabbage pickles and lettuce for lettuce wraps.😋

## Ido distilled soju and the self-serve coffee after the meal

They also sell a distilled soju called "Ido," made with organic Korean rice, nuruk (fermentation starter), and clean water only.

After finishing the meal, you can make yourself an iced americano at the self-serve station. A restaurant with an ice cup fridge! I was impressed by the owner's sense again. Being able to have a coffee right after the meal meant we didn't need to find a separate café afterward.

Idobonga also runs various review events — writing a Naver review gets you either ice cream or 1,500 Naver points, or ₩1,000 cash, among other options. After writing a review, I got a nugabar ice cream bar :) These events may change, so it's worth checking in person if you plan to visit.

## Is Idobonga worth a visit?

Idobonga, a restaurant near Seodaejeon Station, felt like a place where you can properly enjoy both stone-grilled galbi and galbijjim! This time we had the stone-grilled galbi, and the meat was tender with a hint of smoky char, seasoning well soaked in — great with rice, and great for enjoying the flavor of the meat itself.

Looking at the menu, they also have spicy galbijjim and sura galbi hot pot, so next time I'd love to try the galbijjim for a different flavor from the stone-grilled version. From clean, savory galbi to spicy galbijjim, Idobonga is a great pick for galbi lovers to choose whatever suits their taste. If you're looking for a Seodaejeon Station restaurant, a Daejeon restaurant, or a galbi restaurant, I'd recommend Idobonga ⭐️
