I love shabu-shabu so much that I go out of my way to try it all over the city, and lately I found a Sangam shabu kalguksu spot that's completely made my week. The price isn't scary at all, but the portions are way more generous than I expected, and best of all, the spicy broth hit my taste buds exactly right the whole way through. This wasn't just a "that was fine" visit — I immediately started thinking about bringing my family back.

## Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu Sangam Branch: a Sangam shabu kalguksu restaurant with parking

This time I visited Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu Sangam Branch. It's an easy stop whenever you're craving Sangam shabu kalguksu, and since parking is available, it also seemed like a good option for a weekend family outing.

When moving as a family, parking is always the first thing I check, and this place made that part easy. Inside, the store felt clean and well kept overall. You order comfortably from a tablet at the table, so I took my time browsing the menu before picking out our spread.

## What comes with the spicy mushroom kalguksu broth and shabu beef

We ordered the spicy mushroom kalguksu broth together with shabu beef. Ordering the spicy mushroom kalguksu gets you a generous spread of fragrant minari, mushrooms, potatoes and other vegetables, plus kalguksu noodles and fried rice to round it all out — so from the moment the table was set, it was clear the portions were plenty. Adding the shabu beef on top meant vegetables, meat, noodles and fried rice all came one after another like a proper course, making for a very filling meal.

## Adding a pile of minari to the spicy broth

One of the things I loved most was the generous amount of minari. I'm a vegetable person to begin with, so seeing this much fresh minari piled up made me happy right away. Once you drop a big handful into the bubbling spicy broth to cook, its distinct fragrance spreads out and blends with the broth's spicy kick.

![Mushrooms and potatoes in the boiling spicy broth](https://img.superchart.com/images/sangam-shabu-kalguksu-spicy-broth-beef/sangam-shabu-kalguksu-spicy-broth-beef-14-1pk31-966.webp)

The spicy broth pulls your appetite in right away, and the fresh fragrance of minari rises up nicely in between, so my chopsticks just kept going back for more. The mushrooms soak up the broth so each bite has that deep savory flavor, and the softly cooked potatoes added even more variety to the eating experience. If you're a fan of Sangam shabu kalguksu, this spicy broth-and-minari combo is one you have to try.

## Dipping the shabu beef in soy sauce with wasabi

Once the broth started boiling hard, I tried dropping in the shabu beef slice by slice to cook it gently. The thin meat softens as it barely cooks in the hot broth, and it soaks up the savory flavor of the spicy broth so it's delicious even eaten plain.

But mixing soy sauce and wasabi to your taste and dipping the meat together with minari makes it truly special. The crunchy texture and fragrance of the minari against the soft meat cuts through any richness cleanly, and the pairing worked really well.

The longer the broth boils, the more flavor it picks up from the vegetables and meat, so it gets richer than at the start — and that's when the spoon really starts moving fast. It's spicy with deep savoriness rather than just aggressive heat, the kind of addictive spiciness that has you scooping up spoonful after spoonful. If you like your Sangam shabu kalguksu on the spicy side, this one should be pretty satisfying.

## How chewy were the kalguksu noodles?

Once you've had your fill of shabu-shabu, it's time to add the kalguksu noodles. Honestly, I'm not usually greedy about the noodles when eating shabu-shabu, but here I really want to recommend them. The noodles don't turn mushy or limp — they keep a proper chewy, springy texture. Best of all, as the broth grows richer from simmering with vegetables and meat, that deep spicy flavor soaks right into the noodles, giving you a whole different, richer taste from the broth you started with. Slurping down the chewy noodles and having the spicy broth follow right behind kept me eating even when I was already full. If you go for Sangam shabu kalguksu, save room for the kalguksu no matter how full you get.

## The fried rice finish arrives already made

And the thing that genuinely surprised me was the fried rice. Instead of stir-frying it yourself, they bring it out already made and delicious. The rice grains aren't mushy — they're light and fluffy, and the texture was great from the very first spoonful. It tastes subtly nutty in the mouth without being overly seasoned, light and clean, making it the perfect way to finish off a spicy shabu-shabu meal. After eating spicy and fragrant through the meal, ending with something nutty and light felt like the perfect period on the sentence. The kalguksu was delicious, but the fried rice exceeded my expectations too, so I ended up cleaning my plate completely.

## Why we would come back to Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu Sangam Branch

This visit had a lot going for it overall, from the price to the generous portions and the flavors. In particular, the combination of a spicy, savory broth loaded with fragrant minari was exactly my taste. Eating fresh vegetables and shabu beef, then moving on to chewy kalguksu and nutty fried rice, made for a far more filling and satisfying meal than I expected. I think this is a place I'll naturally end up returning to whenever I'm craving Sangam shabu kalguksu again. After loading up on minari in the spicy broth and finishing with kalguksu and fried rice, I was reminded once again why I keep coming back to shabu-shabu.
