On the day we planned to take the kids to Children's Grand Park, we decided to fill up on a solid lunch before the real playing began. While looking for a menu the kids could all eat together, galbitang (beef short rib soup) seemed like a good call, so we visited Achasan Tong Galbitang, a well-known spot near Achasan Station. The meat was so tender the kids ate really well, so it turned out to be a satisfying lunch stop before Children's Grand Park.

Achasan Tong Galbitang is on the 1st floor of 306 Jayang-ro, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, about 400m from Achasan Station Exit 2. It's open 11:00–21:00 with a break time of 15:30–17:00. Being about 400m from Exit 2 makes it a decent spot to reach by subway too. We walked over, and going here for a meal first before heading to Children's Grand Park worked out nicely, just like we did.

Luckily, when we went, we were able to walk right in without waiting.

That said, apparently there can be a wait during regular lunch hours. Waiting a long time isn't easy with kids, so it might be a good idea to visit a bit off the noon peak.

## Parking near Achasan Tong Galbitang

Achasan Tong Galbitang doesn't have its own dedicated parking lot. If you're visiting by car, it's more convenient to use a nearby public or paid parking lot. Weekends especially get busy with visitors heading to Children's Grand Park too, so if you're driving, I'd recommend giving yourself a little extra time. If you're driving, check nearby parking options in advance.

## Ordering the special galbitang with three rib bones

What we ordered at Achasan Tong Galbitang was the special galbitang. Since we'd be eating it with the kids, I was a little worried the meat might be tough, but that worry disappeared as soon as it arrived.

The ribs filled the earthenware bowl generously, and it looked quite hearty.

## How tender is the short rib meat?

This was personally my favorite part about the special galbitang at Achasan Tong Galbitang. The ribs were so soft and tender that just a light touch with chopsticks made the meat fall right off the bone.

It made it easy to pick the meat off for the kids, and even the kids who aren't great with chewy meat ate without any trouble. Seeing the kids eat the ribs way better than expected was the most satisfying part as a parent.

## Why galbitang works for a lunch with kids

When eating out with kids, taste matters, but whether the kid actually eats well matters most. At Achasan Tong Galbitang, they cut the ribs into small pieces and mixed a little rice into the warm galbitang broth, so the kids ate without any resistance.

With tender meat and rice mixed into the broth too, it was a good way to fill the kids up before heading to Children's Grand Park. So this place should suit anyone looking for a restaurant near Achasan Station they can visit with kids.

## Free refills on rice and side dishes at the self-serve bar

One thing I really liked at Achasan Tong Galbitang was being able to get extra rice. When eating with a kid, I often end up giving my own rice to them, so being able to get more rice when needed took the pressure off.

It's also great for mixing a bit more rice into the leftover galbitang broth, and a solid perk for big eaters. If you finish the basic side dishes, you can get more of those too. Topping the galbitang with a piece of kimchi is still the best combo, honestly.

If you run low on rice or side dishes, you can get more from the self-serve bar. Eating with kids often means dropping side dishes or needing more, so being able to grab extra as needed was convenient.

### Free barley candy (boritgangjeong) for dessert

And what the kids especially loved was the barley candy (boligangjeong) you can have after the meal. It's set out free for use in the store, so after finishing our meal, we each had a piece like dessert on our way out.

The barley candy that's free after a meal is also sold in the store, so you can buy some too.

It was crunchy and sweet, and the kids loved it. For kids, it felt like a little dessert after eating well, so they liked it even more. We didn't even need to buy separate snacks — meal and a simple dessert, all sorted.

## A satisfying lunch before Children's Grand Park

Visiting in person, Achasan Tong Galbitang, a well-known restaurant near Achasan Station, turned out to be a good place to visit with kids. What I was most satisfied with was how tender the ribs in the special galbitang were, so the kids really ate well.
