## In short

Taegyeongok is a neat Korean restaurant on a corner alley off Gukchebosang-ro in Dongin-dong, Jung-gu, Daegu. At Taegyeongok the writer ordered Seoul-style bulgogi with udon noodles added instead of a bowl of rice, letting the noodles simmer down in the broth, plus soy-based hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef rice bowl) and Hamheung mul bibim naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles). None of the three dishes was heavy or overly seasoned, so the bulgogi broth was easy to finish to the last spoonful.

These days I find myself seeking out restaurants that serve even a single meal properly, with care. On this visit to Taegyeongok (태경옥) in Dongin-dong, Daegu, I got everything from rich, hearty Seoul-style bulgogi to fragrant yukhoe bibimbap — a real example of a neat, well-set table.

## Taegyeongok hours and closing day

Taegyeongok is open 11:00-21:30, with a break time from 15:30-17:00. It's closed every Monday.

## What's on the menu at Taegyeongok

Taegyeongok's best menu items include hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef tartare mixed rice), Hamheung mul bibim naengmyeon (cold noodles in chilled broth), Seoul-style bulgogi, and bulgogi salad, plus plenty of other tasty dishes.

## What is the dining room like?

Taegyeongok was the picture of 'tidiness' from the outside in. The neatly arranged brick building had this weathered, cozy brick texture that felt both unique and warm. It sits on a corner of an alley, with floor-to-ceiling windows on two sides, so you can see the warm, modern interior clearly from outside — it makes you want to walk right in without hesitation.

![Taegyeongok's white-and-wood interior](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-bulgogi-udon/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-bulgogi-udon-06-12bli-900.webp)

The moment you step through the door, the vibe is best summed up as 'warmth meets tidiness.' 🪵✨ The white-and-wood interior paired with modern black-and-white chairs gives a clean impression, and the table spacing was comfortable, not cramped at all.

There's a bar seat too, haha.

The gat-shaped lampshades, used to evoke a hanok (traditional Korean house) feel, really set the mood. Personally I love this white-and-wood aesthetic with a chic dash of black, and if I ever decorate my own home, this is the vibe I'd go for — I guess I'll just have to settle for enjoying it here.

## Side dishes and how the table is set

Taegyeongok's table setting was neat down to the chopstick wrapper. It matched perfectly with the soft lighting and wood interior.

The banchan (side dishes) served alongside were all delicious, no complaints there.

This pepper goes well with everything on the menu here, and it wasn't spicy, so it was easy to eat.

## Seoul-style bulgogi: why you should add udon noodles

Taegyeongok's Seoul-style bulgogi comes out on a brass grill pan with a mountain of bean sprouts piled on top, and I loved adding udon noodles instead of rice and simmering them in the broth. Look at that mountain of bulgogi that arrived not long after ordering...! 🫢 The edges of the brass pan are lined generously with mushrooms, napa cabbage, carrots, and green onions, while the center has savory marinated beef bulgogi topped with a towering pile of crisp bean sprouts.

You cook it until it sizzles and the vegetables wilt down, then dip the meat and vegetables into the broth to eat — it wasn't too intense or overly sweet, which I liked.

They put in six kinds of vegetables. We added udon noodles instead of a bowl of rice. Dipping them in the broth and letting them simmer down a bit was delicious. Definitely add the udon noodles! Haha.

## Hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap with a soy-based sauce

Taegyeongok's hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap is soy-based, so it was plenty tasty without adding any extra seasoning, and the accompanying beef soup was the real kicker. They said they'd bring extra seasoning if needed, but the original soy-based flavor was enough on its own, so I just ate it as is, haha. This is a yukhoe bibimbap I have a real soft spot for.

Mix it up well. This is a yukhoe bibimbap I wouldn't get tired of even if I ate it every day.

## Finishing with Hamheung mul bibim naengmyeon

![Hamheung mul bibim naengmyeon served in a brass bowl](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-bulgogi-udon/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-bulgogi-udon-19-623qd-900.webp)

Next up is the Hamheung mul bibim naengmyeon. It arrived in an elegant brass bowl with a savory broth topped with a light sheet of ice, along with a sweet-and-spicy special sauce, sliced boiled beef, and egg neatly arranged on top. The broth was so refreshing and clean that it felt like it completely reset my palate after the bulgogi. The sauce added umami without being overpowering, so even full, I ended up finishing the whole broth. 🍜

This combination of three dishes was perfect 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 If you're looking for a tidy, hearty spot for bulgogi and yukhoe near Dongin-dong, Daegu, definitely stop by Taegyeongok!
