## In short

Yaksudong Haemul Teombeong is a long-running agujjim (spicy braised monkfish) and seafood stew restaurant at the entrance to Yaksu Market in Sindang-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul. The restaurant spreads over 1.5 floors and takes group reservations for up to 100 people at once, and the medium agujjim seafood stew (for 3) arrives with a whole octopus and big pieces of roe and gonad, more than enough for three. For a group dinner around Sindang and Yaksu that goes beyond tteokbokki and chicken feet, Yaksudong Haemul Teombeong is the answer.

Yaksudong Haemul Teombeong is an agujjim (spicy monkfish stew) and seafood stew restaurant at the entrance to Yaksu Market in Sindang-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul. It's a famous place. I've paid out of my own pocket for multiple visits, and I've even held a friend's wedding invitation gathering here(?)

Finding a genuinely good agujjim or seafood stew place in Seoul is surprisingly hard, and this is one of the ones that stands out as a well-known spot. It gets crowded on weekdays and weekends alike, and I love that the crowd spans from younger folks to older generations.

## Where is Yaksudong Haemul Teombeong, and where do you park?

Yaksudong Haemul Teombeong sits near the entrance to Yaksu Market. The address is 11 Dasan-ro 10-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul.

![Exterior of Yaksudong Haemul Teombeong at the entrance to Yaksu Market](https://img.superchart.com/images/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining-01-bx8af-900.webp)

The location is so convenient by public transit that taking the subway is your best bet, but if you're driving, using a nearby public parking lot looked like the way to go.

![TV appearances and interview clippings posted at the restaurant](https://img.superchart.com/images/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining-02-865vi-m-900.webp)

Inside and out, the walls are covered with TV appearances and interviews. This isn't one of those food channels that's lost all credibility these days — it's a genuinely well-established restaurant that's been on TV consistently for years.

## How long is the wait at Yaksudong Haemul Teombeong?

Even on a weekday visit, Yaksudong Haemul Teombeong usually has a wait during lunch and dinner hours.

![Waiting crowd outside the restaurant during a weekday meal time](https://img.superchart.com/images/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining-03-rw0cj-900.webp)

![Waiting list placed at the restaurant entrance](https://img.superchart.com/images/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining-04-16m9b-900.webp)

To wait, just write your name on the waiting list at the entrance. The interior is so large that tables turn over fast!

## 1.5 floors and group bookings for up to 100 people

Once you're seated after waiting, the inside is packed with people — young couples on a foodie date, tables that look like company dinners, and groups of older diners gathering together, all mixed in.

![The main dining hall of Yaksudong Haemul Teombeong packed with customers](https://img.superchart.com/images/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining-05-1v51s-m-900.webp)

![Interior view with tables spaced widely across the restaurant](https://img.superchart.com/images/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining-06-10hqu-m-900.webp)

![A separate inner space that can accommodate large groups](https://img.superchart.com/images/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining-07-16oh9-m-900.webp)

What's unusual is that the restaurant uses 1.5 floors, which means there's a separate space further inside that can accommodate a large number of people at once. Around holidays like Chuseok, National Foundation Day, and Hangeul Day, as well as year-end gatherings, they can take group reservations for up to 100 people at a time!

## What's on the menu at Yaksudong Haemul Teombeong

Yaksudong Haemul Teombeong serves a wide range of seafood dishes.

![Menu board listing agujjim and lunch dishes](https://img.superchart.com/images/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining-08-up6zr-900.webp)

There's spicy octopus bibimbap, cockle bibimbap, and seafood sundubu for lunch, plus soy sauce agujjim and maesaengi (seaweed) agujjim (winter menu), which are hard to find elsewhere. The main dish, the original-flavor agujjim, comes in small (2 people), medium (3 people), and large (4 people). You can adjust both the size and the spice level, which I loved because you can order it exactly to your taste!

## The side dishes that come with the meal

The side dishes start with dongchimi (watery radish kimchi) and jeon (savory pancakes),

![Basic side dish spread including spicy squid salad](https://img.superchart.com/images/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining-12-1yc28-900.webp)

and then this whole spread gets laid out(?). With potato salad and spicy squid salad included, even the basic side dishes are enough to finish off a bottle of soju.

## Medium agujjim seafood stew (for 3): enough for three people

This is the main dish at Yaksudong Haemul Teombeong, the agu haemuljjim (monkfish and seafood stew). We ordered the medium size. It comes out in such a huge portion that you can't help but gasp,

![A full spread of the medium-size agu haemuljjim at Yaksudong Haemul Teombeong](https://img.superchart.com/images/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining-13-1jxbw-1200.webp)

![Agu haemuljjim piled up like a tower over the bowl](https://img.superchart.com/images/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining-14-1aek6-900.webp)

and it's piled up like a mountain over the bowl. You can gauge the size of the pile just by looking at the mussel shells and the length of the bean sprouts and minari (water dropwort) sticking out,,

The staff kindly explain how to eat the agu haemuljjim for the best experience and cut the seafood into bite-sized pieces for you.

![A large whole octopus leg included in the dish](https://img.superchart.com/images/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining-15-2raem-900.webp)

The advantage of agu haemuljjim over regular agujjim is the variety of seafood packed in — there's a genuinely huge whole octopus leg in there, and it's a cut above regular agujjim in both texture and flavor. I honestly can't imagine how big the raw octopus must have been to produce a leg this size..

![Omandungi (sea pineapple) inside the agu haemuljjim](https://img.superchart.com/images/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining-16-1f2tf-m-900.webp)

There's also omandungi, aka sea pineapple, which I've come to appreciate more as I get older,

![Plump white-leg shrimp in the seafood stew](https://img.superchart.com/images/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining-17-6riqi-900.webp)

and several plump white-leg shrimp are packed in too.

The star of the show, the monkfish itself, comes in large, well-trimmed pieces, several of them,

![Large monkfish roe and gonad compared to bean sprouts](https://img.superchart.com/images/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining-18-fi9e4-900.webp)

but personally I think the roe and gonad were the real winner. If you compare it to the size of the bean sprout heads behind it, you can get a sense of how huge the roe pieces are.. genuinely to the point where a grown man might struggle to lift a whole piece with chopsticks in one go.

You end up having to break it into several pieces to eat, but because it's so large, the clean, savory flavor almost makes it feel like eating steak.

![Several crabs included in the seafood stew](https://img.superchart.com/images/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining-19-fjrpw-900.webp)

Crab, which no seafood stew should be without, is included too, several of them,

![The base of the stew full of bean sprouts and minari](https://img.superchart.com/images/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining-20-67ack-900.webp)

which would be the star dish at any other restaurant. Loaded with bean sprouts and minari too. The portion itself is so massive that honestly, three people could eat plenty from it.

![A drink paired with the agu haemuljjim](https://img.superchart.com/images/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining-21-1ess5-900.webp)

Well.. anyone who enjoys drinking probably already guessed from the color of the sauce alone that a drink is a must here,

## Fried rice stir-fried separately, not in the pan

The side dish, fried rice — you have to order this.

![Fried rice stir-fried separately in the kitchen](https://img.superchart.com/images/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining-22-11y36-900.webp)

What's unusual is that it's not mixed into whatever sauce is left over from your stew — the kitchen makes a separate fried rice sauce ahead of time and stir-fries it fresh when you order. That means you get to enjoy it alongside your agujjim or haemuljjim, which I think is the real advantage.

![Close-up of the appetizing fried rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining-23-o3cw9-900.webp)

A visual that couldn't possibly taste bad. For reference, the fried rice

## Review event: free fried rice or a bottle of alcohol

![Sign explaining the review event offering fried rice or alcohol](https://img.superchart.com/images/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining/yaksu-seafood-jjim-group-dining-24-1w4oi-900.webp)

you can get by joining the review event. Usually other restaurants give you a small can of soda at most for a review, but Haemul Teombeong coolly gives you fried rice or a whole bottle of alcohol.

## Is Yaksudong Haemul Teombeong a good Sindang-dong group dining spot?

I used to visit Yaksudong Haemul Teombeong a lot before, but I naturally stopped going once I had no more reason to be in the area. Coming back after a long time, I found it's still delicious, generous with portions, and good value for money.

Even during my visit, there were plenty of people who'd come after making group reservations, including an 8-person table, so I'd recommend it as a group meeting spot in Sindang-dong. Whenever you make plans around Sindang or Yaksu, you always end up eating tteokbokki or dakbal, but sometimes it's nice to go for a nourishing meal like this seafood stew or agujjim instead~
