## In short

The Bangpaje is a sashimi restaurant in Millak-dong, Suyeong, Busan, open in the same spot since 1982 and recognized as a Busan-designated local food restaurant and a Baengnyeon Gage (century business). Two diners ordered the Seasonal Assorted Sashimi Set S with two bowls of rice and worked through sea squirt and sea cucumber, six side dishes, four kinds of sashimi (mullet, flounder, sea bass and hirano), and a bone maeuntang (spicy fish stew), then looked around the 2nd-floor dining rooms and 3rd-floor banquet hall. The Bangpaje suits group gatherings that want high-grade sashimi in a calm setting.

## What kind of sashimi restaurant is The Bangpaje?

The Bangpaje is a great-atmosphere sashimi restaurant on Gwangan Beach-ro 294beon-gil, between Gwangalli and Millak-dong in Suyeong, Busan. I liked that it has all kinds of spaces — casual general tables, private rooms, and even a banquet hall!

- Hours: Daily 11:30–22:00 (last order 20:30)
- Break time: 15:00–17:00

They've apparently been running this place in the same spot since 1982. It's been designated a Busan local restaurant and selected as a Baengnyeon Gage (century-old business), and it's also been listed in the Blue Ribbon Survey for four years running.

### Where to park near The Bangpaje in Millak-dong

120 minutes of parking support is available at two spots — Millak Public Parking Lot and Jeongdaun Nursing Hospital parking 🚗💨

## First-floor seating and the opening table setting

This is what the 1st floor of The Bangpaje looks like. Most people seemed to use the 1st floor for casual meals with friends, partners, or family.

We also used the 1st floor. Once seated, they set the table with chopsticks, wet wipes, and sungnyung (roasted rice water).

## Ordering the Seasonal Assorted Sashimi Set S for two

The two of us ordered the Seasonal Assorted Sashimi Set S and two bowls of rice. I noticed that people dining solo tended to go for rice bowls or mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) instead. Also — the staff were incredibly kind and composed while taking our order *´︶`*

### Sea squirt, sea cucumber and the sauces served

Sea squirt and sea cucumber came out first. My first thought after tasting them was just how fresh they were •• ❀ Then came fresh wasabi, makjang (fermented sauce), and chili oil — all great to eat with the sashimi. The chili oil felt unusual, a nice touch, and my favorite was actually the baek-kimchi (white kimchi) with a drizzle of sesame oil — eaten with sashimi, it's honey-level good.

### Six side dishes, including ankimo (monkfish liver)

There are six side dishes, and honestly, the side dishes are the real deal here. The lineup was seasoned crab, soy-marinated shrimp, seared mackerel tataki, ankimo (monkfish liver), salmon futomaki, and sweet potato fritters — every single one was delicious. Ankimo in particular is usually served in a spoonful-sized portion even at kaisendon spots or other sashimi restaurants, but here they gave a generous amount, so I ate it without holding back.

## Four seasonal sashimi cuts and the bone maeuntang

The main sashimi platter arrived. Here's the whole setup ( っ '▽')づ

They prepare seasonal fish depending on the time of year — this time it was milchi, flounder, sea bass, and hirame, and all four had different textures and flavors, so I never got tired of eating.

There's a nice variety of side dishes and sauces, so it's fun to mix and match combinations.

After eating a good amount of sashimi, we boiled the bone spicy stew that came out earlier. There was a surprising amount of fish meat in the stew ? ੈ♡‧₊˚🐟 Adding a bit more cinnamon powder made it even better — nice and spicy.

## Water-aged sashimi vs. live-fish sashimi at The Bangpaje

This is the 1st floor hallway.

![1st-floor hallway of The Bangpaje](https://img.superchart.com/images/the-bangpaje-suyeong-sashimi-set-stew/the-bangpaje-suyeong-sashimi-set-stew-14-1mx18-900.webp)

They use a water-aging fish tank with a premium aging method to bring out more umami and softness. I really like that on top of the aged sashimi, you can also try live-fish sashimi depending on the species.

## Renting the 2nd-floor dining rooms and 3rd-floor banquet hall

The 2nd floor of The Bangpaje is dining rooms, and the 3rd floor is a banquet hall — let me show you around!

![Stairway leading up to the 2nd-floor dining rooms](https://img.superchart.com/images/the-bangpaje-suyeong-sashimi-set-stew/the-bangpaje-suyeong-sashimi-set-stew-16-1wm8k-900.webp)

This is the 2nd-floor hallway — isn't it elegant and pretty ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☀︎ ⋆⁺₊⋆ I'd recommend this for family gatherings or work dinners.

![Elegant atmosphere of the 2nd-floor hallway](https://img.superchart.com/images/the-bangpaje-suyeong-sashimi-set-stew/the-bangpaje-suyeong-sashimi-set-stew-17-hkyun-900.webp)

Each room has a slightly different design — I took a photo of one called Yunseul. You can enjoy sashimi privately here.

The 3rd-floor banquet hall also has several spaces — this is the inside of the room called Majung.

It's much bigger in person!! If you have a large group, you can inquire about renting it out.

### Restrooms, books and coffee at The Bangpaje

Naturally, the restroom is upscale and clean too.

You can also take a book, and coffee is available to go.

## Is The Bangpaje worth a return visit?

Having experienced it firsthand, I could see why it's earned so many Blue Ribbons. I'd recommend it as a group gathering spot where you can enjoy high-quality sashimi in a calm atmosphere.
