It had been a while since my last Chuncheon trip. This time the plan was simple: eat well and relax. While looking for a mak guksu (cold buckwheat noodle) spot near Namchuncheon Station, I finally visited Hyeondae Memil, a place I'd been curious about for a while thanks to its good reviews. After trying the bibim mak guksu, buckwheat jangsujebi, and sous vide pork tenderloin myself, I can say it's worth recommending as one of Chuncheon's must-try food spots — here's my full review along with parking and waiting info.

## How to walk to Hyeondae Memil from Namchuncheon Station, plus parking and waiting

Hyeondae Memil is a 7-minute walk from Exit 1 of Namchuncheon Station. You can park 2–3 cars in front of the store or use the Namchuncheon Station parking lot, an 8-minute walk away. It's popular enough to have a wait during meal times, so a reservation or registering at the in-store waiting kiosk is a good idea.

Hyeondae Memil is a partially remodeled old hanok (traditional Korean house), giving it a retro, old-school charm.

We walked from Exit 1 of Namchuncheon Station, and the 7-minute walk made it easy even without a car — a perfect stop if you're traveling by train.

Hyeondae Memil is known for having a wait during meal times, but we arrived right after the break time ended and got in right away.

If you're worried about waiting, reservations are available before lunch or dinner, and groups of 6 or more need to decide on their menu in advance.

- Reservation inquiries: available by phone, text, or Naver Talk Talk message
- Without a reservation, you can still register on the in-store waiting kiosk for a number
- After registering, wait for your turn at the designated waiting area near the entrance

Since it's on a quiet alley, roadside parking is also guided as long as it doesn't block traffic. If you're driving, using the Namchuncheon Station parking lot is a worry-free option too.

## Inside Hyeondae Memil: a remodelled hanok with old-school charm

Inside Hyeondae Memil, the exposed rafters and beams of the hanok structure are paired with soft lighting. The space is naturally divided, making it quiet and private for a meal.

Walking under the elegant tiled roof, the old hanok ceiling with its rafters and beams gave off a cozy, nostalgic feeling — like visiting grandma's countryside house.

Vintage props like a jige (traditional wooden carrier) and a gat (traditional hat), along with framed pictures, gave off an old-school charm that also felt like visiting a retro café.

With plenty of little details to look at and none of the noisy bustle you'd expect from a popular restaurant, it was a cozy, comfortable atmosphere perfect for chatting with company over a meal.

## What to order at Hyeondae Memil: bibim mak guksu, buckwheat jangsujebi and sous vide pork

Hyeondae Memil is a fusion buckwheat restaurant that reinterprets mak guksu, Chuncheon's signature dish, in a modern way. Their recommended menu — mak guksu, potato pancake, and pork tenderloin — shows off the varied flavors of Chuncheon's food scene.

![Table order menu screen at Hyeondae Memil](https://img.superchart.com/images/hyundae-memil-chuncheon-station-parking-waiting/hyundae-memil-chuncheon-station-parking-waiting-14-1yotr-966.webp)

We ordered bibim mak guksu, buckwheat jangsujebi, and sous vide pork tenderloin, and the table-order system with real photos made ordering easy.

### Bibim mak guksu, 8,600 won

![Bibim mak guksu topped with sprouts at Hyeondae Memil](https://img.superchart.com/images/hyundae-memil-chuncheon-station-parking-waiting/hyundae-memil-chuncheon-station-parking-waiting-15-etzs9-966.webp)
*Bibim mak guksu — ₩8,600*

We started with the bibim mak guksu, topped generously with pretty sprouts that looked like blooming flowers on the plate. As soon as it hit the table, a fresh, fruity scent like apple or pear drifted up.

![Close-up of buckwheat noodles tossed in sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/hyundae-memil-chuncheon-station-parking-waiting/hyundae-memil-chuncheon-station-parking-waiting-16-10ek6-966.webp)

The buckwheat noodles were smooth without clumping or going soft, mixing well with the sauce, and the crunchy mul-kimchi (water kimchi) garnish paired nicely with the chewy, springy noodles for a refreshing bite.

### Buckwheat jangsujebi, 11,600 won

![A bowl of spicy buckwheat jangsujebi](https://img.superchart.com/images/hyundae-memil-chuncheon-station-parking-waiting/hyundae-memil-chuncheon-station-parking-waiting-17-1f4so-966.webp)
*Buckwheat jangsujebi — ₩11,600*

With the evening breeze getting a bit chilly, my husband ordered the buckwheat jangsujebi, a warm and spicy noodle soup.

![Heart-shaped, bite-sized buckwheat sujebi pieces](https://img.superchart.com/images/hyundae-memil-chuncheon-station-parking-waiting/hyundae-memil-chuncheon-station-parking-waiting-18-1hq4r-966.webp)

He went for sujebi (hand-torn dough) instead of kalguksu (knife-cut noodles), and the cute heart-shaped buckwheat pieces were bite-sized, with a savory sweetness that came out more the more you chewed.

The broth, based on doenjang (soybean paste) and gochujang (red chili paste), had a pleasant kick without being overly spicy or harsh, and it was savory and deep without any lingering heaviness — one spoonful and my stomach felt instantly soothed. With plenty of meat, mushrooms, and vegetables, it was a great value for the price too. 👍

### Sous vide pork tenderloin, 20,600 won

![A plate of sous vide pork tenderloin at Hyeondae Memil](https://img.superchart.com/images/hyundae-memil-chuncheon-station-parking-waiting/hyundae-memil-chuncheon-station-parking-waiting-20-18x48-966.webp)
*Sous vide pork tenderloin — ₩20,600*

Buckwheat pancake and potato pancake also pair well as side dishes with mak guksu, but as meat lovers, we ordered the sous vide pork tenderloin. If you visit Hyeondae Memil, I'd say the pork is a must-order alongside your noodles.

![Cross-section of low-temperature cooked pork tenderloin](https://img.superchart.com/images/hyundae-memil-chuncheon-station-parking-waiting/hyundae-memil-chuncheon-station-parking-waiting-21-jm7c6-966.webp)

Cooked sous vide at a low temperature, the tenderloin was incredibly tender, practically melting in the mouth. It paired wonderfully with the fresh kimchi served alongside, which cut through the richness with its crisp, clean bite.

Cooked to a medium-rare without any gamey taste, it stayed moist to the very last bite, and pairing it with the radish salad and chives on top added a crunchy texture and a clean finish.

Wrapping a piece of pork in the tangy-sweet bibim mak guksu noodles made for an irresistible combination — one that easily earns its place among Chuncheon's must-try dishes. If you're looking for a gentle, well-put-together meal without heavy sweet-and-salty flavors, I'd recommend Hyeondae Memil near Namchuncheon Station.
