Today I went back to Jeonju House in Bongmyeong-dong. It's become one of my go-to spots for Korean food in Yuseong, Daejeon — every time I go, that cast-iron galbi kimchi stew just puts my mind at ease, so I didn't hesitate to head over again today. Here's how it went with the kimchi stew, egg roll, and pot rice, all eaten with plenty to spare.

## Inside Jeonju House

![Inside Jeonju House with wide-spaced tables](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeonju-house-bongmyeong-late-lunch-kimchi-stew/jeonju-house-bongmyeong-late-lunch-kimchi-stew-02-17h33-966.webp)

Walk through the door and the space is much bigger than you'd expect. Tables are spaced generously, and the window seats catch good light, so it feels extra cozy in the daytime. Big menu boards for galbi kimchi stew and raw pork belly are up on the wall, so first-timers can decide what to order without much fumbling. I went in during a late lunch window and got seated right away with zero wait, which was great. I also liked that every table has its own burner, so the stew keeps bubbling away and never goes lukewarm.

## Cast-iron galbi kimchi stew, real hometown flavor

![A spoonful of galbi kimchi stew eaten with rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeonju-house-bongmyeong-late-lunch-kimchi-stew/jeonju-house-bongmyeong-late-lunch-kimchi-stew-08-hly8u-966.webp)

The kimchi here is aged just right, and the first bite instantly tasted like home. The broth's been simmered a long time, so it's deep and rich but not harsh — it just goes down easy. The meat wasn't skimped on either, generous in every spoonful. The real trick here is the tofu waiting at the self-serve corner — grab some yourself and drop it into the stew, and the broth gets even deeper. I loaded mine up with tofu and cleaned the whole bowl. The meat was tender and well-cooked too, easy to chew through without any effort.

Mixed into the rice, it was perfect.

## Side dishes made with care

![Side dish spread with seasoned bean sprouts and chives](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeonju-house-bongmyeong-late-lunch-kimchi-stew/jeonju-house-bongmyeong-late-lunch-kimchi-stew-09-105d3-966.webp)

![A plate of sweet-and-sour geotjeori](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeonju-house-bongmyeong-late-lunch-kimchi-stew/jeonju-house-bongmyeong-late-lunch-kimchi-stew-10-dy8lo-966.webp)

![Salad with cabbage and red cabbage](https://img.superchart.com/images/jeonju-house-bongmyeong-late-lunch-kimchi-stew/jeonju-house-bongmyeong-late-lunch-kimchi-stew-11-zn4m4-966.webp)

The side dish spread was solid too. Crunchy seasoned bean sprouts, spicy-tangy seasoned chives, and sweet-and-sour geotjeori (fresh kimchi salad) — all good matched with the stew. There was also a refreshing salad with cabbage and red cabbage that kept me reaching back for more. The self-serve corner had extra bean sprouts and geotjeori ready to go, so no worrying about running out — I refilled freely. Every side dish felt carefully made, enough to call this a real find for Korean food in Bongmyeong-dong, Daejeon. The seasoned chives especially had a spicy kick with real savory depth, and worked great spooned over rice too.

## Pot rice and egg roll too

Rice fresh out of the cast-iron pot had a shiny gloss and that light, fluffy texture. Each grain paired beautifully with the kimchi stew broth. I also ordered the egg roll, sliced thick, which looked satisfying right off the bat — soft texture with green onion bits scattered through so it never got boring. Dipped in ketchup piece by piece, it seemed like something both kids and adults would enjoy. With stew, rice, and egg roll together, it felt like a full, hearty spread.

## Final thoughts
