## In short

Motsaenggin Ttungdwaeji Cheongdang Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Cheongdang-dong, Cheonan, where staff grill the pork belly at your table. Two servings of fresh pork belly and kimchi stew came with over 12 side dishes — perilla-wrapped, dried kelp, mustard leaf kimchi, salted hairtail — plus dried kelp and seaweed used instead of lettuce for wraps, which felt refreshingly different. With seating for up to 80, a group section, and a large parking lot, it's an easy pick for a Cheonan work dinner or gathering.

I visited Motsaenggin Ttungdwaeji Cheongdang Branch, a place recommended around town as one of Cheonan's best BBQ spots. It's a Cheonan meat restaurant where staff grill for you, so it's easy to just sit back — and this Cheongdang-dong favorite has such a spacious interior that it's perfect for work dinners or gatherings.

There's a big free parking lot right in front of Motsaenggin, so parking is never a worry at this Cheongdang-dong favorite. Roadside parking nearby also seemed possible, so I just followed the local custom and parked on the street.

## A spacious interior for up to 80 people — good for group dinners?

The moment I stepped inside Motsaenggin, I felt how spacious and clean it was. The tables have generous spacing so it never feels crowded,

![Seating with round steel tables](https://img.superchart.com/images/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal-06-rg9g2-900.webp)

and the round steel tables really add to the Cheonan BBQ restaurant atmosphere.

The restaurant can seat up to 80 people, and private rental is available for groups of 60 or more. There's a separate group section too, making it an ideal Cheongdang-dong BBQ spot for a work dinner.

## Menu and self-serve bar

![Menu board at Motsaenggin Ttungdwaeji Cheongdang Branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal-07-1enlc-900.webp)

Orders go through the table kiosk, so I took a photo of the menu for easy reference. There's Mottung beef short rib, raw pork rib, fresh pork belly, pork jowl, makchang, cheek meat, cheonsang pork neck, beef brisket, and a variety of side dishes.

### How many side dishes come out?

The variety and number of side dishes at Motsaenggin was noticeably richer than other Cheonan BBQ restaurants — honestly, that surprised me.

Julienned green onion, soy sauce, pollock roe, salt, salted hairtail, pickled radish, dried kelp, perilla leaves, aged kimchi, seaweed, mustard leaf kimchi, green onion kimchi — there's so much that if you don't know where to start, try the owner's top-5 recommended combination first!

![Table spread of side dishes including julienned green onion, pickled radish, and dried kelp](https://img.superchart.com/images/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal-10-1cmnq-900.webp)

With so many accompaniments, I didn't notice at first, but it was quite a sensation that there was no lettuce or perilla-leaf wrap — the usual staples. Anything extra you need is available at the self-serve bar.

There are also Instagram and Naver receipt review events running, so be sure to grab those perks.

Fried egg, corn salad, and doenjang stew all come standard, so there's plenty to eat even before the meat starts. I didn't expect that part — there's clearly a reason this place is famous around Cheongdang-dong.

## Staff-grilled Mottung fresh pork belly

Caught the moment the fire got going — snap!

Enter two servings of fresh pork belly with the perfect ratio of lean meat to fat.

The pork is domestic and hand-trimmed daily, they said. Once the grill heats up, a staff member grills it for you.

From grilling to cutting into bite-sized pieces to grilling it professionally until golden brown, it's especially convenient for a Cheonan work dinner or family gathering where you want to focus on conversation.

![Thick fresh pork belly grilled and cut by staff](https://img.superchart.com/images/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal-11-1jbwz-900.webp)

I like it grilled this thick, and as expected of a pro, they cut it into just the right size.

![Pork belly cooked golden brown on the grill](https://img.superchart.com/images/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal-12-1bvs0-900.webp)

The fat drains right off while the juices stay locked inside the thick pork belly, so the first bite bursts open — that's what makes this Cheongdang-dong BBQ spot special.

The sizzle was next-level. The fat ratio is just right too, so it's not greasy at all — if anything, it prevents the meat from tasting dry.

### Why you shouldn't put grilled meat back on the grill

Worried the grilled meat would get cold, I tried to put it back on the grill, but I was told to take it off because the moisture evaporates. If the moisture goes, the juices go too, and it gets tough, right?

Maybe that's why it stayed juicy down to the very last bite. Another skill learned today.

### Trying the top-5 recommended combinations

I like adding all sorts of things to pork, so I tried the recommended combinations first. Pork belly with dried kelp was unusual — the crunchy texture was appealing and the flavor wasn't too strong, an unexpectedly good pairing.

![Pork belly on dried kelp, a recommended combination](https://img.superchart.com/images/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal-15-1oela-887.webp)

![Pork belly wrapped in seaweed](https://img.superchart.com/images/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal-16-1otvj-900.webp)

![Pork belly dipped in house-made soy sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal-17-114l2-900.webp)

Wrapping it in seaweed was also an unfamiliar combination. The house-made soy sauce wasn't ordinary either — sweet, savory, and delicious.

![Pork belly topped with green onion kimchi](https://img.superchart.com/images/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal-18-elisf-900.webp)

![Pork belly paired with salted hairtail](https://img.superchart.com/images/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal-19-18a1c-900.webp)

A spicy, punchy combination — green onion kimchi never fails, and the funky salted hairtail was distinctive.

![Pork belly wrapped in perilla leaf](https://img.superchart.com/images/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal-20-a4m9a-900.webp)

The fragrant perilla leaf wrap and the mustard leaf kimchi, which had a different vibe — it wasn't seasoned in the usual way but made pickle-style, so it was crunchy and slightly sweet with a distinct charm.

![Table spread with pickled radish and mustard leaf kimchi alongside pork belly](https://img.superchart.com/images/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal-21-1kydx-900.webp)

There's no gamey taste, and it's delicious plain with its clean flavor, but personally, the combination of dried kelp, pickled radish, soy sauce, and mustard leaf kimchi suited my taste best :)

## Kimchi stew served bubbling on the grill

![Kimchi stew boiling right on the grill](https://img.superchart.com/images/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal-22-1vph2-900.webp)

When eating pork belly at a Cheongdang-dong favorite, I'm more of a kimchi jjigae person than a doenjang jjigae person, and I'd heard Motsaenggin's kimchi stew was a must-try, so I ordered it late despite the 20-minute wait!

They cleared the side dishes to make room on the table, then set it right on the grill — shock number one! Then the visual of the bubbling, boiling kimchi stew — shock number two!

Sour kimchi, pork, tofu, and all kinds of vegetables overflowing with ingredients — it looked like three servings' worth.

I'm usually picky about meat-based stews because of the oil, but this kimchi stew had no oil floating on top, and the broth was spicy and clean. The kimchi is more sour than aged kimchi, so it might be divisive, but the pork was tender and delicious.

![Kimchi stew served with a bowl of rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal-23-1wu03-900.webp)

You can't not eat rice with this spread. I polished off a full bowl with this home-style pork kimchi stew.

## Real review of Motsaenggin Ttungdwaeji Cheongdang Branch

![Slush and coffee corner outside the restaurant](https://img.superchart.com/images/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal/motsaengin-ttungdwaeji-cheongdang-samgyeopsal-24-1hob1-900.webp)

Outside the restaurant there's slush and coffee, so people of all ages can enjoy a dessert after the meal. Motsaenggin Ttungdwaeji Cheongdang Branch has a very spacious, comfortable interior with plenty of choices for meat and sides. Most of all, since the staff grill the meat so well, you can eat quickly and comfortably without lifting a finger — that's the biggest advantage. That's why it's such a convenient Cheongdang-dong BBQ restaurant for a Cheonan work dinner, date, or gathering :)
