## In short

Huni Gejang Cheonan Main Branch is a blue crab soup and soy-marinated crab restaurant at the entrance of the food street in Yuryang-dong, Cheonan. Two people ordered the small traditional blue crab soup (jeongtong kkotgetang) for 70,000 won plus two stone-pot rice add-ons, and the four large blue crabs and generous radish made a clean, refreshing broth in a portion that was more than enough for two. For a refreshing crab soup broth, Huni Gejang is best visited as a party of three.

I wanted a refreshing crab soup in Cheonan, looked around, and ended up at Huni Gejang. I ordered the jeongtong kkotgetang (traditional blue crab soup), small size.

If you're searching for a Yuryang-dong, Cheonan restaurant for crab soup or soy-marinated crab, this place is worth checking out. They have both kkotgetang and a full gejang set, so it really feels like a proper seafood spread. 🦀

## Where Huni Gejang is in Cheonan, parking and the dining room

![Exterior of Huni Gejang at the entrance of the Yuryang-dong food street](https://img.superchart.com/images/hooni-crab-stew-cheonan-yuryang/hooni-crab-stew-cheonan-yuryang-03-k6vny-966.webp)

Huni Gejang sits right at the entrance of the Yuryang-dong food street, so it wasn't hard to find.

![Parking space in front of the Huni Gejang building](https://img.superchart.com/images/hooni-crab-stew-cheonan-yuryang/hooni-crab-stew-cheonan-yuryang-05-1n81n-966.webp)

The parking space in front of the building is fairly wide, which was a relief. When parking is tight at outer-Cheonan restaurants, you're already tired before you even sit down — that worry was much less here.

The interior is clean, and the table spacing is decent.

It's good for a family outing, and it felt like a fine place to bring your parents for crab soup too.

## Menu and order: traditional blue crab soup, small, 70,000 won

![Menu board at Huni Gejang](https://img.superchart.com/images/hooni-crab-stew-cheonan-yuryang/hooni-crab-stew-cheonan-yuryang-09-c6j9x-966.webp)

Huni Gejang's menu had a good variety — gejang (soy-marinated crab) set, albegi set, and jeongtong kkotgetang.

![Menu listing jeongtong kkotgetang small size for ₩70,000](https://img.superchart.com/images/hooni-crab-stew-cheonan-yuryang/hooni-crab-stew-cheonan-yuryang-11-mmxnm-966.webp)

The two of us ordered the jeongtong kkotgetang small for ₩70,000, and added two stone-pot rice on the side.

The small size of jeongtong kkotgetang comes with 4 large crabs and is listed as good for 2–3 people — and that's really accurate. For two people, it's more than plenty, borderline too much; for three, it seemed like it would land just right.

## The five side dishes served with the crab soup

![The 5 banchan (side dishes) at Huni Gejang](https://img.superchart.com/images/hooni-crab-stew-cheonan-yuryang/hooni-crab-stew-cheonan-yuryang-12-zjaz9-966.webp)

About 5 banchan came out — a soy-sauce tofu dish, bracken fern namul, kimchi, something like squid jeotgal, and miyeok julgi (seaweed stem).

![Side dishes including soy-tofu and bracken fern namul](https://img.superchart.com/images/hooni-crab-stew-cheonan-yuryang/hooni-crab-stew-cheonan-yuryang-13-18geg-966.webp)

The side dishes weren't flashy, but they were good for picking at while waiting for the crab soup. The tofu was mild, and the jeotgal was salty enough to get your appetite going even before the rice arrives.

## How did the blue crab soup broth taste?

![Small size jeongtong kkotgetang served at the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/hooni-crab-stew-cheonan-yuryang/hooni-crab-stew-cheonan-yuryang-14-xxcn0-966.webp)

And finally, the crab soup arrived.

The moment we saw the pot, the two of us both went a little quiet. Food that makes you talk less is always the real deal haha.

![Crab soup with large crab pieces](https://img.superchart.com/images/hooni-crab-stew-cheonan-yuryang/hooni-crab-stew-cheonan-yuryang-16-iuvbe-966.webp)

![Crab soup broth with plenty of radish](https://img.superchart.com/images/hooni-crab-stew-cheonan-yuryang/hooni-crab-stew-cheonan-yuryang-17-9o602-966.webp)

The crabs were genuinely big, and the radish was generous too, so the broth was very refreshing.

The first spoonful is spicy, but as you keep eating, the crab's sweetness comes through, and you just keep spooning it up. The broth wasn't heavy or murky — it was clean, which I liked.

The generous radish was especially a smart move. The umami from the crab plus the radish's freshness made the broth feel like it kept refilling itself. It's good with rice, and good just spooned up on its own — either way it hits the spot.

The crab meat was quite substantial too, and picking it apart was fun. Even as the two of us kept eating, there always seemed to be more left in the pot — the portion was definitely generous.

## Adding stone-pot rice and finishing with sungnyung (scorched rice tea)

![Added stone-pot rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/hooni-crab-stew-cheonan-yuryang/hooni-crab-stew-cheonan-yuryang-21-9bew6-966.webp)

Adding the stone-pot rice was also a good call.

We scooped out the rice first to eat with the crab soup broth, and at the end poured water into the pot to make sungnyung (scorched rice tea) — which turned out to be a nice little treat on its own.

After the spicy crab soup, finishing with warm sungnyung felt like it settled everything nicely in the stomach. 🍚

There was also a review event — writing a receipt review gets a ₩1,000 donation made to a Cheonan orphanage. The service item, as posted, offered a choice of 4 shrimp jang, half a yangnyeom gejang, or a drink/alcohol.

## Is the small size enough for two, or should you bring three?

![Full spread of crab soup at Huni Gejang](https://img.superchart.com/images/hooni-crab-stew-cheonan-yuryang/hooni-crab-stew-cheonan-yuryang-23-1ijou-1200.webp)

If you want crab soup in Cheonan, especially one with a refreshing broth, Huni Gejang was solid. For two people, the small jeongtong kkotgetang was quite a lot — personally, I think three people would be just right.

If you're looking for Cheonan crab soup, Yuryang-dong soy-marinated crab, or a Cheonan seafood course meal, this is a place worth recommending. 🦀
