## In short

Yeongjae Susan is a sashimi restaurant inside Gaklak Market's fish market in Songpa, Seoul. On a Friday evening, the writer took public transit to pick up a takeaway order of nong-cham-gwang sashimi (small) for ₩65,000 (sea bass, flounder, red seabream) and ate it at home with fresh live shrimp, each slice long and thick enough to wrap in gimchori kim (perilla-oil seaweed) with aged kimchi and sesame oil. With sashimi this fresh, it's a solid pick for takeaway from a Korean fish market.

Today I want to introduce a place I visited at Gaklak Market: Yeongjae Susan. I ended up with fresh live shrimp at home and was trying to figure out what to eat with it, so I picked sashimi haha! I figured raw fish sashimi alongside would be so good!

So I visited the fish market inside Gaklak Market and ordered takeaway sashimi from Yeongjae Susan.

## Yeongjae Susan's location and the Friday evening takeaway vibe

If you head straight in where the sign for the specialty restaurant zone is, Yeongjae Susan is right there to the left of entrance 6. If you drive, free parking seems to apply when you order takeaway.

Since it was Friday night I took public transit for pickup, and the fish market was absolutely packed with people, as expected. If you're eating at the chojang restaurant upstairs, especially on a Friday, definitely make a reservation — takeaway from the sashimi shops doesn't need one, but the wait for packing takes a little while, ugh.

## Nong-cham-gwang sashimi (small) ₩65,000 — fixed prices, just pick and go

Gaklak Market runs on a fixed-price system across the board, so prices are posted and all you have to do is choose where to order your takeaway from. You can pick from a wide range of sashimi types as you like. What I got was the nong-cham-gwang sashimi (small) — ₩65,000.

If you order through Naver you can also get a 20% discount coupon, so if you're planning to visit it's a good idea to place a reservation order in advance!

![Live fish in the tanks at Yeongjae Susan](https://img.superchart.com/images/garak-market-sashimi-takeout-yeongjae/garak-market-sashimi-takeout-yeongjae-07-ba3ts-900.webp)

Nong-cham-gwang sashimi is made up of large sea bass, large flounder, and red seabream, and watching them catch it from the tank in front, the fish really were huge. Maybe that's why each slice of sashimi was also incredibly long and big when I ate it. I was so happy about that haha! You can also see the shrimp moving here!

## Cooler bag packing, and they give you every sauce you need

When packed for takeaway, it's presented beautifully like this, and since it's a cooler bag, there was no problem until I got home. There was one large ice pack inside.

What's included as standard: ginger, pickled radish (rakkyo), wasabi, soy sauce, ssamjang, chojang! They give you all of these, so there were no extra sauces to prepare separately. If you want to eat it wrapped, all you need to prepare yourself is the wrap.

### How much is the small size, and how many people can it feed

It's the small size but there was a lot of sashimi in it! I think it would be just the right amount for 2-3 people to eat sashimi and then have fish stew. Since I was pairing it with fresh live shrimp, I didn't add the fish stew.

![A plate of nong-cham-gwang sashimi (small) laid out at home](https://img.superchart.com/images/garak-market-sashimi-takeout-yeongjae/garak-market-sashimi-takeout-yeongjae-12-ea14u-900.webp)

What do you think?? Haha, even looking at it now it's such a mouth-watering visual,, haha. The sashimi came with some flounder fin mixed in, and it had this really springy texture, kind of like aged sashimi, and it was so rich and fatty. It was so delicious.

## Fresh live shrimp too, and gizzard shad in fall

Yeongjae Susan also sells fresh live shrimp, and a lot of people were buying it. The price is on the affordable side too, so eating fresh shrimp together with sashimi like we did seems like a great idea. If you get tired of eating the shrimp raw, I'd recommend steaming it too!

![A drinking spread with assorted sashimi and fresh shrimp](https://img.superchart.com/images/garak-market-sashimi-takeout-yeongjae/garak-market-sashimi-takeout-yeongjae-14-1nbhn-1200.webp)

Isn't the sashimi condition great? And being able to try a variety of types was even better. Since it's fall now, you can also order gizzard shad. My sister doesn't really like the fishy taste of gizzard shad so we didn't order it separately this time, but I love it, so next time I'm planning to order gizzard shad sashimi too.

![A thick, long slice of sashimi](https://img.superchart.com/images/garak-market-sashimi-takeout-yeongjae/garak-market-sashimi-takeout-yeongjae-16-mtjvp-899.webp)

Each slice is really long, right?? Haha, wrapping it up filled my mouth in one bite, and it was so good. It was almost as big as the fish in a long-tail sushi roll haha.

## Gimchori kim + aged kimchi + sesame oil — eat it this way

And if you're going to eat this, definitely prepare some aged kimchi to go with it. Wrapping it in seaweed like I did is so, so good. For the seaweed, I recommend gimchori kim (perilla-oil roasted seaweed)! Put the sashimi on the crispy seaweed, add a little aged kimchi and sesame oil! Pairing it like that is absolutely delicious, ugh. Please eat it this way!!

Eating it wrapped up like this, the drinks really flow and your stomach gets so full,, Summer's over now and it's cool out, so go enjoy some sashimi at a fish market~~ The sashimi condition at Yeongjae Susan was so good that I really recommend this place!
