## In short

Yeongjae Susan is a sashimi takeout and delivery shop on the first floor of the Garak Mall sales building in Garak Market, Songpa, Seoul. On a weekday at 1pm the writer picked up the small nong-gwang-cham platter (large sea bass, large flounder and large sea bream) for 65,000 won and ate it three ways at home: with soy sauce and wasabi, over rice, then as a sashimi rice bowl. The slices at Yeongjae Susan were thick enough that even the small size felt generous, and a child who rarely eats raw fish picked up chopsticks unprompted.

Every year our family goes chasing fresh, lively sashimi at the coast (especially Dad, aka the 'Il-dragon boss'!). This year he's been too busy with work to make the trip and was feeling pretty disappointed about it, so I went looking for somewhere easy to reach that still captures that just-off-the-boat freshness — and I got a great opportunity to try one.

And it exceeded expectations! The place we visited this time is a Garak Market sashimi favorite — Yeongjae Susan!

> Yeong: dazzling colors that catch your eye / Jae: sashimi you can eat truly in season at this Garak Market favorite / Su: fresh straight from the fish market catch / San: a spread rich enough to rival a feast — that's what's here.

## Arriving at Garak Mall at 1pm on a weekday: parking to shop

I stopped by Yeongjae Susan on a weekday around 1pm. Parked easily at Garak Mall and took the elevator down to the 1st floor~

![Yeongjae Susan's sign on the 1st floor of Garak Mall's sales building](https://img.superchart.com/images/garak-market-large-cut-sashimi-takeout/garak-market-large-cut-sashimi-takeout-02-r49o7-966.webp)

The 'Yeongjae Susan' sign catches your eye even from a distance. Even though it was just past lunchtime, delivery orders of sashimi kept flying out the door. That got my expectations up even more (I noticed they're also partnered with Inuh-gyoju-haejeokdan, a delivery service I sometimes use).

## Seasonal sashimi at Yeongjae Susan and the small nong-gwang-cham platter for 65,000 won

I was looking for what's in season, and apparently sea bass, striped jack mackerel, and gizzard shad are the hot picks these days. And not just any sea bass — 'daenong-eo,' the large-sized sea bass.

Since we have a sashimi beginner at home, I went with Dad — who loves sashimi — and picked the nong-gwang-cham combo, which seemed like it would suit everyone's taste without fail! Nong-gwang-cham (large sea bass, large flounder, large sea bream, small size, ₩65,000).

While the sashimi was being prepared, I checked out the fish tanks~ Watching the fish swim around so lively made me even more excited for how fresh this was going to be!!

## What comes in the Yeongjae Susan takeout package?

Yeongjae Susan packs the nong-gwang-cham sashimi neatly into an insulated bag. I hurried home carefully with it in hand! Opened it up the moment I got in the door~ Here's what was inside:

Plenty of sashimi + chojang + ssamjang + 3 side dishes (rakkyo pickled shallots, pickled ginger, wasabi) + soy sauce.

At first glance the portion looked reasonable (about what you'd expect for the small size), but once I unwrapped it — whoa~

![Assorted sashimi arranged neatly in rows](https://img.superchart.com/images/garak-market-large-cut-sashimi-takeout/garak-market-large-cut-sashimi-takeout-09-35kbg-966.webp)

The slices were seriously thick, so the portion was super generous. This is exactly where the 'great value' talk comes from. Each row of sashimi was arranged neatly and it just looked so appetizing that—

Even our little one, who isn't usually a fan of sashimi, picked up chopsticks on their own! Can you see it? That thickness is just right to bring out the texture fully.

## How large sea bass, flounder and sea bream taste different

Yeongjae Susan's nong-gwang-cham combo uses all 'large'-sized fish, so no secret here — the flavor runs deeper (I've heard somewhere that bigger fish means richer flavor, haha).

- Large sea bass: firm yet springy flesh, with a crisp bite and absolutely no fishy smell.
- Large flounder: a familiar fish, but the chewiness felt almost unfamiliar, and the fin section added a rich, nutty flavor!
- Large sea bream: a familiar fish too, but on a different level of springiness paired with softness inside! The more you chew, the more a subtle sweetness comes through — wow, it was genuinely delicious.

Also paired it with soy sauce and wasabi~

## Sashimi over rice, then a sashimi rice bowl to finish

We piled the leftover nong-gwang-cham sashimi onto rice too!

![Sashimi eaten over rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/garak-market-large-cut-sashimi-takeout/garak-market-large-cut-sashimi-takeout-16-13mat-966.webp)

And finished it off as a hoedeopbap (sashimi rice bowl) loaded with chojang and lettuce! (I doubt there's a more luxurious sashimi rice bowl out there.) (With that much sashimi piled in, I wondered how much this would even cost elsewhere?) It really left me with the feeling — now that's a proper, generous sashimi meal.

Whether you want to taste something better than what's on the coast, right here in Seoul, or you're after great-value sashimi by delivery, or you just want to make a special day feel abundant — anyone visiting Garak Market sashimi favorite Yeongjae Susan is likely to end up with a happy smile on their face over a satisfying meal.
