If you come to Jinju, Jinju naengmyeon is something you want to try at least once. While passing through Jinju this time, I looked into where to eat and ended up at Song Giwon Jinju Naengmyeon Main Branch. It is already so well known for Jinju naengmyeon that I was curious, and after trying it myself, I could kind of see why so many people come here.

You can park in front of the restaurant, and I heard that the Yeonam Library public parking lot and Donggwang Church parking lot are also available. There is a break time, so it would be best to check the hours before you go.

## The clean restaurant atmosphere

Inside, the white and wood tones gave the whole place a clean feel. There were tables for four as well as seats for larger groups, so it looked like an easy place for a family meal or a visit with friends or your partner. We arrived just after the break time ended, so we could eat fairly comfortably. By the time we finished and were leaving, though, quite a few guests had come in and it was nearly full. I thought there might be a wait depending on the time.

That day, we ordered two mul-naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles in broth) and yukjeon for two. I always think you should start with mul-naengmyeon at a naengmyeon restaurant, so that was our pick, and we added yukjeon (pan-fried battered beef) to share.

After ordering, sweet pickled radish came out first.

There was also hot broth at the self-service bar, so you could bring back as much as you wanted to drink. This hot broth was the kicker... I drank it twice 👍🏼 Having a cup of warm broth before the naengmyeon felt like it woke up my appetite.

At last, the mul-naengmyeon arrived. The first thing that caught my eye was the generous topping piled on top.

There was more yukjeon than I expected in particular, so it felt much more filling than eating naengmyeon alone. Rather than tasting aggressively salty or sweet from the first sip, the broth leaned deep and rich. They say it uses meat broth simmered from Korean beef bones along with seafood and more, and perhaps because of that, it had a slightly different flavor from typical naengmyeon broth. Personally, I am not usually someone who drinks much of the broth when I eat naengmyeon, but I drank quite a lot of it here.

The noodles are made in-house, and I could taste buckwheat's distinctive nutty flavor. They were nicely chewy, too. Eating the yukjeon with the noodles added another nutty note, and the pairing worked well.

We also tried the yukjeon we ordered because it would have been a shame to eat only naengmyeon. With the noodles, the yukjeon's nutty, light flavor came through even better. In particular, having a piece of yukjeon between bites of cool naengmyeon and then drinking the broth again was a pretty good combination.

If two people are visiting, I think it would be nice to add one side dish and share it rather than ordering only one naengmyeon each.

## My honest impression after trying it

When you go in with too many expectations just because a place is famous, it can sometimes be disappointing, but personally, this was a satisfying meal. Above all, the broth was memorable. If you usually prefer naengmyeon that is clean-tasting but deep rather than intense, I think it will suit you.

That said, one bowl of naengmyeon is not especially inexpensive compared with a typical naengmyeon restaurant. Still, there was plenty of yukjeon on top and the portion was not lacking for a meal, so I did not feel disappointed just looking at the price. And the ladies working there were incredibly kind, which somehow made the meal even tastier .ᐟ.ᐟ If you are looking for naengmyeon in Jinju, it is worth visiting at least once.

Song Giwon Jinju Naengmyeon Main Branch stood out for its Jinju naengmyeon generously topped with yukjeon and its rich broth. People who like mul-naengmyeon should be comfortably satisfied, and I think it is also a good choice for anyone trying Jinju naengmyeon for the first time. The broth's deep flavor and the buckwheat noodles' nuttiness especially stayed with me. If I visit Jinju again, I would like to try the other menu items too.
