Sasang Station pork belly BBQ with rich doenjang stew: Kkodeul Daepae
In short
Kkodeul Daepae Sasang Branch (꼬들대패 사상점) is a Korean BBQ restaurant near Sasang Station in Busan that serves kkodeul daepae, a chewy style of thin-sliced pork belly. Two people ate 5 servings of kkodeul daepae with the self-serve bar (₩1,500 per person), doenjang (soybean paste) stew and DIY fried rice; the writer found the doenjang stew richer and nuttier than at other branches and the restroom notably clean. What kind of Korean BBQ restaurant is Kkodeul Daepae Sasang Branch?
Kkodeul Daepae Sasang Branch (꼬들대패 사상점) is a daepae samgyeopsal (thin-shaved pork belly) restaurant near Sasang Station, and as the name suggests, its meat keeps a chewy, springy bite that ordinary shaved pork belly lacks. I was looking for somewhere to eat meat near Sasang Station and finally made it here! Shaved pork belly is thin, cooks fast and is easy to eat, and this one has texture on top of that~!
This time two of us went, ordered 5 servings of kkodeul daepae, used the self-serve bar, and properly ate our way through doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and fried rice too haha. Best of all, the place is big with lots of tables, so I think it works for gatherings or company dinners in Sasang~!

Atmosphere and seating at Kkodeul Daepae Sasang Branch
This is an easy BBQ place to find near Sasang Station! The size of the restaurant caught my eye the moment I arrived.
Inside, the mood was comfortable overall! There are 4-person tables and seats for bigger groups too, so it looked fine for family meals or getting together with friends haha
There were already quite a few customers when we got there, and as we ate the whole place filled up. Meat just tastes better somewhere with a bit of a buzz, doesn't it haha

A Korean BBQ restaurant with a restroom this clean?
Personally, the restroom was what impressed me most here lol. At BBQ places and older restaurants the restroom can be a bit grubby or smelly, so I usually avoid restaurant restrooms, ugh..;
This one was really well kept. It smelled nice and felt so clean that I ended up taking photos without thinking, lol. I liked that they take care of details like this, not just the dining area~!

How to order at Kkodeul Daepae Sasang Branch and self-serve bar price
You check the menu and order at a kiosk. The self-serve bar is always added at ₩1,500 per person!
No hesitation that day: we ordered 5 servings of kkodeul daepae!!!

How is kkodeul daepae different from regular thin-sliced pork belly?
Kkodeul daepae is thinly sliced like regular daepae samgyeopsal, but instead of going soft and melting, it keeps a chewy bite. The meat finally arrived!!! It cooks quickly on the grill, and I could feel a bit of difference in thickness and amount compared with ordinary daepae haha
We ordered 5 servings and the portion was quite generous, so we were ready for a proper meat feast~!

What's on the Kkodeul Daepae Sasang Branch self-serve bar?
The self-serve bar has grill items like mushrooms, dumplings and sausages, green onion kimchi and assorted side dishes, plus fried rice ingredients such as eggs, cheese, seaweed flakes and sesame oil. You can't skip the self-serve bar here! There are things to grill alongside the meat, and a variety of side dishes to bring back!
What I especially liked was that fried rice ingredients are provided, so you can make your own at the end. Eat meat, then fried rice: the whole menu was decided from the start hahaha

I checked the wrap vegetables too, and the lettuce was really fresh. The color was vivid and it was cleanly trimmed, great for wrapping meat. Droopy lettuce at a BBQ place is a letdown, but that day it was in good shape. I thought kimchi and bean sprouts would be good grilled with the kkodeul daepae, so I put them on the grill together haha!

Grilling kkodeul daepae with kimchi and bean sprouts: worth it?
Grilled with kimchi and bean sprouts, the meat fat soaks into them and makes a great combo. Once the grill was hot I laid the kkodeul daepae down piece by piece. It's thin, so it started cooking fast with a sizzle, and the smell of grilling meat really boosted my appetite lol I really wasn't that hungry, though..^^;;
Instead of grilling only meat, I added kimchi and bean sprouts too~! Putting the cooked meat on a lettuce leaf with kimchi or sprouts gives you several flavors in one bite, so I kept making wraps.

Is the doenjang stew at Kkodeul Daepae Sasang Branch better than other branches?
The dish I liked most this visit was the doenjang jjigae!! The broth was rich and savory with real soybean paste flavor, and I enjoyed it so much hahaha
I've eaten at another Kkodeul Daepae branch before, and there I found the stew a little bland. But the Sasang Branch's stew tasted clearly different! It was nice to spoon up between bites of meat, and even better with steamed rice~! This time I finished almost all of it. If you visit, I'd really recommend ordering the doenjang stew too!!

I gathered the cooked meat on one side of the grill and started eating in earnest! Even though it's thin, the kkodeul daepae keeps some bite when chewed, so it really has that chewy feel its name promises. It's rich and savory, and with kimchi and bean sprouts it felt less greasy, so I couldn't stop eating haha

Meat on lettuce plus kimchi, one big wrap in the mouth: this combo never fails haha. Even with 5 servings, it seemed to disappear fast as we ate~!

Finishing with DIY cheese and egg fried rice
At Kkodeul Daepae Sasang Branch you can make fried rice on the grill yourself with self-serve bar ingredients. We were fairly full, but we still had one last course~! Self-serve fried rice! We brought the ingredients from the bar and made it ourselves!
I tidied up the leftover meat, kimchi and bean sprouts on the grill, added rice, then put in seaweed flakes and sesame oil and stir-fried it well haha

When the fried rice was nearly done, we piled on plenty of cheese. Watching it melt and stretch between the grains of rice looked so delicious.

Then we beat an egg and added that too. As it cooked and mixed into the rice it became much softer! Making fried rice from the leftovers after the meat made me feel like we ate thoroughly right to the end.

The finished fried rice was savory and soft with the cheese and egg. With the flavor from the kimchi and meat it tasted far richer than plain fried rice, and even though I was quite full, my spoon kept going lol Fried rice really is the right way to finish at a BBQ place hahaha
When I went to pay, the counter had dental floss, candy and even eyeglass cleaning wipes? What a thoughtful touch!!!

Is Kkodeul Daepae Sasang Branch good for lunch or a company dinner?
Kkodeul Daepae Sasang Branch is good for a meat dinner, but it's also a decent option if you're looking for a lunch spot in Sasang! The place is big with lots of tables, so it looked suitable for family meals, get-togethers with friends and company dinners with many people haha I also heard the table setup works for solo diners, so that's worth knowing if you're eating alone!
Final verdict on Kkodeul Daepae Sasang Branch
This time I ate my way through 5 servings of kkodeul daepae, doenjang stew, steamed rice and the self-serve bar! The meat keeps a chewy bite, so you get the savory flavor of shaved pork belly plus texture, and it was even better grilled with kimchi and bean sprouts.
Above all, the doenjang stew was really good this time hahaha It felt a bit bland at another branch, but at Sasang the broth was rich and savory, perfect with meat and rice~! If you're looking for a BBQ place near Sasang Station, or a hearty weekend lunch in Sasang, try the shaved pork belly and self-serve bar at Kkodeul Daepae Sasang Branch haha. We cleared everything from the meat to the fried rice that day! 😋
