Marblejeong is a hanwoo (Korean beef) restaurant in Seongsu that's popular with celebrities too — and with corkage available, it's a great pick for a work dinner near Ttukseom Station.

My partner and I both have birthdays this month, so we swore we'd finally go eat proper meat this time. I'd been living on bland food for a while because of a stomach flu, so I really couldn't hold back any longer, haha. That's how we ended up at Marblejeong, known as a top hanwoo spot in Seongsu. I'd had my eye on it for a while after hearing they only serve 1++ grade hanwoo, so my expectations were high! Since it's also a popular work-dinner spot in Seongsu, I made a reservation first.

It's a 3-minute walk from Ttukseom Station Exit 5, so public transit was easy. I'd worried a bit about parking since it's in Seongsu, but there was plenty of space right in front, which was a relief too. If you're looking for a work-dinner spot near Ttukseom Station, that should put your mind at ease.

## Private rooms or hall seats: is Marblejeong good for a group dinner?

Walking into Marblejeong, I was a little surprised it felt more like a modern bar than a barbecue restaurant. The lighting and interior would work perfectly for a date, too!

There were private rooms as well as window-side hall seats, so you can choose based on party size or occasion. The spacing between tables was genuinely wide, so we could chat without worrying about the next table over, and the place itself was big enough to feel comfortable even for a large group reservation. Every seat also had a space to hang and store your coat.

Marblejeong doesn't just have wine — the Chinese liquor and whiskey lineup is solid too, so for a work dinner with people who have different tastes, everyone can pick their own drink. Wine corkage is allowed, so you can bring your own, and they said buying wine from the restaurant to take home comes with a discount — we already talked about grabbing a bottle next time.

## What we ordered at Marblejeong: side dishes and five sauces

As soon as we sat down, we looked at the menu and ordered the 400g mixed grill of top-grade hanwoo, doenjang sul-bap (soybean paste rice porridge), and a lemonade.

Not long after we sat down, the basic side dishes were set out — lightly dressed lettuce, bocconcini salad, mustard leaf kimchi, wild garlic leaves, gungchae (a leafy green), celery, and more, all generous portions. There were five pairing sauces too: Maldon salt from England, sharp fresh wasabi, shiitake horseradish, perilla leaf pesto, and a soy-based house dipping sauce.

The perilla leaf pesto was seriously delicious!! That combo suited my taste the best personally, while my partner kept dipping into the shiitake horseradish nonstop.

After the side dishes were cleared, my lemonade arrived. I ordered it instead of alcohol because of my stomach flu, but that refreshing, perfectly carbonated lemonade wetting my throat before the meat came out made the wait fly by.

## 400g top-grade hanwoo mixed grill: sirloin, skirt and chadolbaegi brisket

Then the main event, the 400g mixed grill of top-grade hanwoo, arrived, and one look at the plate had me drooling...🤤 Sirloin, skirt steak, and beef brisket were laid out neatly by cut, with marbling packed in so densely I finally understood what people meant by "1++." Even to the eye, the color of the meat was clearly different from regular hanwoo.

A staff member stayed with us from start to finish, grilling everything and timing each cut perfectly in sequence, which made things easy. Interestingly, even after all that grilling, my clothes barely smelled of smoke — turns out they use a special ventilated grill plate 👍🏻

I put a single piece of sirloin on the grill, and the moment it turned golden brown, I grabbed it with my chopsticks — the outside had a slight char with a nutty flavor, and the inside still had pink juices intact. The moment you bite in, the fat melts away, and the more you chew, the more a subtle sweetness rises up...

The skirt steak had a chewy bite along the grain with a strong beefy aroma, a completely different charm from the sirloin. If you like a chewier texture, skirt steak might be your favorite!

### Doenjang sul-bap, the soybean paste rice we added

While we were eating, the doenjang sul-bap we'd also ordered arrived.

It was loaded with hearty ingredients, so when you scoop it with a spoon, it comes out thick like a porridge.

The soybean paste flavor was rich, with a bit of spiciness added too, so it felt like a reset for your palate after all the meat could start feeling heavy.

Finally, the beef brisket, sliced thin, sizzled and cooked in no time on the grill — the lean part was tender while the fatty part was chewy, and that fat spread out with a familiar, unmistakable flavor...♥️

All three cuts were solidly good, but personally the sirloin was the best for me. The marbling was layered so thoroughly that juices seemed to burst with every bite — it had been a long time since I'd had sirloin this tender and nutty. Tasting it myself, I had to admit that 1++ grade meat really is on another level.

## Dessert at Marblejeong: yakgwa, fruit and omija tea

After the meal, dessert came out — yakgwa (honey cookie), fruit, and cold omija tea.

I had to pass on the fruit because of my stomach flu... I love cherries, so missing out on those was the most disappointing part. My partner ended up eating my share of cherries too, so I'm definitely going back for a rematch once I'm feeling better. Even ordering the mixed grill, it felt like they took care all the way through like a proper course.

## Is Marblejeong worth it for a group dinner near Ttukseom Station?

The meat quality at Marblejeong was great, but nothing fell short from the grilling service to the drink lineup to the room conditions — whether for a work dinner or a celebration. This time we ate hearty with the mixed grill, but next time, once my stomach flu is fully gone, I want to try the course menu too.
