Sushi is one of my absolute favorite foods, but I hadn't had any properly in a while, and I could feel the craving building up again. Looking for good spots near Hwajeong Station to satisfy it, I came across Min Cook Dasima (민쿡다시마) — a place that's been around for over 20 years and even earned the

100-year legacy shop

certification. I was pretty excited even before walking in.

I've never really been disappointed by any of the 100-year legacy shops I've visited so far, so I headed over for a lunch date with a friend. It ended up being one of the most satisfying sushi meals I've had recently, so let me share it.

## Can you walk to Min Cook Dasima from Hwajeong Station?

Min Cook Dasima is about 240m from Exit 1 of Hwajeong Station on Line 3, so it's an easy walk. It's close to the station and there's an E-mart nearby too, so it was convenient to run errands and grab a meal in the same trip.

We drove that day, but the building's parking is mechanical, which felt a bit much, so we parked at the E-mart right next door instead. Dining at the restaurant gets you 1 hour of parking support there.

## A 100-year legacy shop run by a certified Japanese cuisine master

The 100-year legacy shop certification caught my eye right at the entrance. Having run the same spot for so long was one of the reasons I chose this place. On top of that, it's also recognized as home to a certified master craftsman in Japanese cuisine — reason enough for any sushi lover to want to try it.

## The second-floor window seat with a ginkgo tree view

*A window seat with ginkgo tree views*

The interior of Min Cook Dasima was done up in a clean wood tone. With big windows on all sides, the lighting was great, and since it's on the second floor, you could see green ginkgo leaves outside — it almost felt like a café with a view.

The 2- and 4-person tables weren't crammed too close together, giving the whole space a relaxed layout. A long bar table ran along the window, which looked like a comfortable spot for solo diners too. Since the weather was perfect that day, I sat at a window seat with a great view of the greenery.

We arrived around 2pm, a bit past the weekday lunch peak, so the restaurant was relatively quiet. It seemed like a good spot for solo diners near Hwajeong Station or office workers coming in for lunch.

## Min Cook Dasima's menu: sushi, rice bowls and pork cutlet

You order via QR code right at your table. Looking through the menu, there was quite a variety — assorted sushi and sushi set meals, raw salmon rice bowl, à la carte sushi, Korean pork loin cutlet, and flounder sashimi rice bowl. With so many seafood options that suit my taste, I spent a bit of time deciding.

My friend and I both went with the weekday lunch special — the sushi set meal (special), ₩25,000. We each ordered the same thing. It's not just sushi on its own — you get several side dishes alongside it, which makes it a solid option for anyone looking for a Hwajeong lunch spot.

## The 25,000 won sushi set starts with warm porridge

![Warm porridge served as the first course of the sushi set](https://img.superchart.com/images/hwajeong-station-sushi-set-window-seat/hwajeong-station-sushi-set-window-seat-10-8qd9o-966.webp)

Not long after ordering, the warm porridge arrived first. Warming up with the soft porridge before diving into the sushi was a nice way to get the appetite going.

A little while later, the full sushi set arrived, and the spread was more generous than I expected. There were big pieces of assorted sushi — flounder, sea bream, raw salmon, tuna, seasoned shrimp — plus futomaki (thick seaweed roll), salad, chawanmushi (Japanese steamed egg custard), fried items, and simmered fish.

## Thick, generously cut sushi on the set platter

*A hearty spread of thick, generous sushi*

The sushi was, of course, the first thing that caught my eye. Overall the pieces were sizeable, with thick slices of fish on top, so each bite filled your mouth nicely.

I especially loved the seasoned shrimp — the seasoning wasn't overdone and the texture stayed nice and bouncy, which made it even more delicious.

![Tuna sushi and futomaki](https://img.superchart.com/images/hwajeong-station-sushi-set-window-seat/hwajeong-station-sushi-set-window-seat-15-1o5zx-966.webp)

The tuna went down smoothly too, with the thick cut really coming through in the texture. By the time I got to the futomaki, which filled my mouth with every bite, I understood why this place has stayed a go-to sushi restaurant for so long. It was one of the more memorable sushi meals I've had recently.

## Futomaki, chawanmushi, tempura and braised eel on the side

*Soft, silky chawanmushi*

As much as I loved the sushi, the side dishes that came with it were just as good. The chawanmushi was soft enough to melt in your mouth — always such a delicious dish, haha.

![Salad with onion sauce](https://img.superchart.com/images/hwajeong-station-sushi-set-window-seat/hwajeong-station-sushi-set-window-seat-18-19rs2-966.webp)

The salad with a tangy onion sauce was also right up my alley,

![A bowl of rich-tasting soup](https://img.superchart.com/images/hwajeong-station-sushi-set-window-seat/hwajeong-station-sushi-set-window-seat-20-vgj6v-966.webp)

and the soup that came with the meal tasted richer than the usual light miso soup, which suited my taste even better.

![Sweet-and-salty braised eel](https://img.superchart.com/images/hwajeong-station-sushi-set-window-seat/hwajeong-station-sushi-set-window-seat-21-1l3rc-966.webp)

The braised eel, with its sweet-and-salty appeal, was heavenly eaten together with the sushi!

The fried sweet pumpkin, shrimp, and pepper came out warm too, and they were fried crisp and delicious. Between the sushi and all the sides, there was fun in trying a bit of everything, and I stayed satisfied right up to the last bite.

## Is Min Cook Dasima worth a return trip for lunch in Hwajeong?

![Closing shot of the sushi set meal at Min Cook Dasima](https://img.superchart.com/images/hwajeong-station-sushi-set-window-seat/hwajeong-station-sushi-set-window-seat-24-1lbqz-966.webp)

Min Cook Dasima was a great pick for a lunch date near Hwajeong Station. Especially on nice weather days like this, being able to enjoy delicious sushi while looking out at the green scenery outside made it even better. Once again, a 100-year legacy shop didn't disappoint. This is a Hwajeong spot I know I'll naturally come back to the next time sushi is on my mind.
