## What kind of place is Usijang Hoegwan? A 4-minute walk from Mapo Station Exit 3

Today's spot is "Usijang Hoegwan," located in Dohwa-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul! Usijang Hoegwan is a 4-minute walk from Exit 3 of Mapo Station — a beef restaurant right by the station.

Don't you sometimes crave raw meat, grilled meat, AND soup all at once? (Fact: that's just called being hungry.) Usijang Hoegwan is perfect for exactly that mood, because they have a set where you can enjoy beef sashimi, soup, and grilled beef all in one meal ★ It also happens to be close to my partner's office, so we headed straight there right after work ^. .^ ੭

Here's the exterior. The sign had a red-and-green combo that looked kind of like a traffic light, giving it real presence. There was a well-worn, old-school feel to the sign (very noypo — old-timer restaurant vibe), which got me excited even before walking in ♡(ᐢ ᴥ ᐢし)

### Why you should reserve: tables full before 6pm on a weekday

Here's the interior. Even though we arrived before 6pm on a weekday, people were already eating, and looking around, every other table was reserved too. Apparently quite a few walk-ins had to leave because there was no space, ㄷ,,ㄷ

I'd really recommend booking ahead before you visit ‎ദ്ദിᵔ.˛.ᵔ₎

Apparently even National Assembly members vouch for this place. On a whole different level from the trendy spots you see on Instagram ( ✧ ̫ ✧ )

There was a sign explaining the kkuritsal beef sashimi you can get at Usijang Hoegwan, plus tips on how to enjoy the menu best. Adding dogani-suji (ox knee tendon) to the soup — we forgot to do it, but you all should definitely try it. It sounds so good 🚰·̫🚰

Here's the menu setup. The composition is great, but the value for money is on another level. Especially the 1-person set — under ₩15,000 and you get soup with rice AND beef sashimi together ;; If I worked near Mapo Station, I'd probably eat here every day. Note that there are more menu items than what's shown on the menu board I photographed, so it's worth checking again in person when you visit |•̅ᴗ•̅)ﾉ"

## What side dishes come with the meal?

The banchan (side dishes) included pickled onion, lettuce, perilla leaves, pickled gochujang peppers, cabbage kimchi, pickled perilla leaves, salt, red seasoning sauce, and ssamjang (dipping sauce). Personally, the pickled gochujang peppers were amazing *,,*

## What's in the 700g assorted 3-person set?

Our assorted 3-person set came with an assorted platter + yukhoe or yuksashimi (large) + choice of one rice dish, and the generously loaded assorted platter arrived first. The platter is a signature 700g beef assortment featuring three cuts in one: premium jin-galbisal, seasoned LA galbi, and galbisal. It looked amazing even before it hit the grill (❤︎ >︡.<︠ )

If you're a soju person, you absolutely have to come here. Reason: they have insanely cold soju.

## Kkuritsal beef sashimi with the house dipping sauce

The owner's self-declared #1 beef sashimi. I've eaten plenty of beef sashimi in my life, but I'd never seen one that looked quite like this — and of course, that's a good thing.

Even doing a somersault, you'd know just by looking that it's fresh and delicious, right? That's how we felt at least, ㅋ

Dipping it lightly into the special beef sashimi sauce — that's the move. Just as expected, there was zero smell, it was super tender, and it went down so smoothly. Thanks to the tangy-spicy sauce, I never got tired of it even by the end. I'm usually the type who gets sick of this kind of thing quickly, but here I finished the whole plate, no lie ✌🏻

## The clear beef soup with rice was the best part

Personally, this was the thing I enjoyed most at Usijang Hoegwan. It's a clear soup loaded with beef, and the broth genuinely tasted like a really rich beef and radish soup. I mean it, no exaggeration — it was so rich that every spoonful felt like it fixed me right up ㅠ,ㅜ I honestly wanted to carry it around in a thermos all winter and sip it every few steps (•̀ω•́)⸝ި ʕᦏ⌎

## Grilling premium jin-galbisal, galbisal and seasoned LA galbi

Now for the real grilling. They started with the most premium cut, jin-galbisal, and the marbling was just — wow. This is the kind of marbling that would be weird if it DIDN'T taste good, right? And it really was insanely good. Dipped in salt and popped in my mouth, it just melted. My mouth was genuinely in heaven, ugh ｡ﾟ(ﾟ-᷅⩊-᷄ ﾟ)ﾟ｡

Next up, galbisal! Compared to the premium jin-galbisal, galbisal definitely has less fat and more chew, which meant we didn't get tired of it as easily. Pairing it with the various side dishes made it even better ʚ̴̶̷̆₃ʚ̴̶̷̆♡

With three amazing dishes to drink to, the soju just kept flowing. And this was after already drinking too much the night before, so... is this really okay?

Lastly, we had the seasoned LA galbi, and wow, this was outrageously good too ;; My all-time favorite food in the world is my mom's braised galbi, and this had a similar seasoning flavor and just as tender a texture, so I ate it very, very happily (̨̡ ¨̮ )̧̢(̨̡ ¨̮ )̧̢↬❥

The meat separates from the bone pretty easily too Ψ(*¯ч¯*) Which meant I, someone who loves meat still clinging to the bone, got to fully clean off every single rib ^^ Ah, just thinking about it makes me want more

## Is Usijang Hoegwan worth it for Korean BBQ near Mapo Station?

That wraps up my review of Usijang Hoegwan, a restaurant near Mapo Station! Beef is one of those foods that's hard to make bad, but also hard to make truly memorable — and this place genuinely does beef well. There was zero smell, everything was tender and delicious, and I could tell right away they use good-quality meat. It even made me think I should bring my parents here next time they're in Seoul (the highest compliment I can give 🫶🏻🫶🏻)

Also, the staff were all so kind that the service was completely satisfying too >,,< If you're looking for a solid beef restaurant near Mapo Station, I highly, highly recommend Usijang Hoegwan (՞_ ̫ _՞)ᐝ☁︎︎⋆｡
