With the weekend here, my wife and I headed to Dangsan Station for a relaxed weekend date over a hearty, delicious Korean meal. We both usually love meat dishes and refreshing soupy noodles, and we had been craving a substantial but clean-tasting table of meat. That led us to Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch (청운보쌈 당산점), a bossam specialist known around Dangsan and Yeongdeungpo for its tender boiled pork prepared fresh every morning and refreshing clam kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup).

## Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch, found from Dangsan Station Exit 13

The restaurant is only about a 247 m walk from Exit 13 of Dangsan Station, where Lines 2 and 9 meet, so public-transit access is excellent. Just a little way into the alley, Cheongun Bossam’s large, neat white sign—with its hanok roof-tile logo—immediately caught my eye.

Outside along the street, standing menu boards for signature dishes such as gabri bossam, spicy stir-fried webfoot octopus, mussel soup, and squid-and-seafood scallion pancake were enough to make anyone’s mouth water. The exterior already conveyed the neat, deep-rooted know-how of traditional Korean cooking, while the bright interior was visible through the front windows. Once inside, the dining room was much larger and more comfortable than it had looked from outside.

There were truly plenty of seats inside, from four-person tables to long tables for larger groups.

The tables were generously spaced as well, making it look excellent not only for couples like us having an intimate meal, but also for nearby office dinners, group gatherings, or a weekend family meal out.

After a cheerful greeting from a kind staff member, we settled into a comfortable seat by the window.

A wall display explained the benefits of bossam: as a boiled pork dish, it is rich in B vitamins and is said to support recovery from fatigue, skin health, vascular health, and muscle growth. Reading that made me even more excited for the food.

## Ordering the bossam and kalguksu set, plus the side dishes

Looking over the smart ordering tablet at our table, I saw that they were also running a Naver receipt-review event. If you write a receipt review after paying and show it to a staff member, you receive hearty, nutty rice balls for free, so visitors should definitely keep that in mind. We ordered the bossam and kalguksu set (₩35,000), which let us enjoy generous portions of tender boiled pork and refreshing kalguksu together, as listed on the receipt order.

To coolly quench our thirst, we added Chilsung Cider and Pepsi Zero Sugar.

After ordering, we chatted for a moment before four neat basic banchan (Korean side dishes) arrived first: stir-fried fish cake, seasoned bean sprouts, well-fermented spicy-tangy napa cabbage kimchi, and crisp pickled onions. None was overpowering; they were all tidy, appetite-awakening side dishes.

Near the counter on one side of the restaurant was a self-service banchan refill station. It was very convenient and satisfying that if we ran short on a tasty side dish during the meal, we could simply take as much as we wanted without feeling self-conscious.

## The combination of tender boiled pork and refreshing clam kalguksu

At last, the stars of the day arrived on the table: the bossam set and a large hot pot brimming with dongjuk clam kalguksu.

The fragrant scent of crown daisy from the kalguksu bubbling on the induction burner at the center of the table, along with the striking sight of glistening pork, drew an exclamation the moment we faced it.

A large round ceramic plate was filled with neatly sliced boiled pork in just the right thickness. Alongside it were spicy-sweet bossam kimchi, yellow pickled napa cabbage leaves packed with filling, fresh lettuce wraps, ssamjang dipping paste, peppers, and garlic—all in perfect harmony.

I picked up a piece of pork with its golden ratio of lean meat and fat, lightly dipped it in salted shrimp, and put it in my mouth—and my eyes opened wide. There was not even the slightest trace of unpleasant odor, and it was so exceptionally tender that it practically melted after only a few chews. True to the description that it is carefully boiled with fresh ingredients every morning, the juices came through moistly, releasing a deep, clean savoriness with every bite. Wrapping a thick piece of pork and crisp, spicy-sweet radish kimchi in a yellow inner napa cabbage leaf made for an absolutely fantastic combination.

The dongjuk clam kalguksu in clear broth that came with it also delivered quality that far exceeded expectations.

When I stirred the pot with a ladle, the bottom was generously packed with dongjuk clams full of plump, pale flesh. The clear broth, richly infused with zucchini, carrot, green onion, and fragrant crown daisy, carried the deep, refreshing flavor of the sea; one spoonful was enough to make me feel completely refreshed inside.

The kalguksu noodles did not go soft in the broth and stayed springy and chewy, making every slurp enjoyable. After the mild, rich boiled pork, a sip of the hot, lightly spicy, refreshing clam-kalguksu broth cleared the palate so thoroughly that my chopsticks just kept moving.

## A Saturday lunch that left us thoroughly satisfied

The spacious, pleasant dining room and abundant tables were comfortable, the staff’s considerate service was kind, and above all, the flawless tenderness of the boiled pork and the wonderfully refreshing dongjuk clam kalguksu made this a Saturday lunch that satisfied us in every way.
