## In short

Gyedan Ramen Mokdong Branch is a tonkotsu ramen restaurant in Yangcheon, Seoul, a 470m walk from Omokgyo Station Exit 2 on the B1 level of PARK 161. On a Sunday evening a couple ordered Gyedan Ramen (basic) for 11,000 won, Motsu Ramen (rich) for 12,000 won and tamago bap (egg over rice) for 3,000 won, a total of 26,000 won, and the broth simmered for 14 hours with crisp fried pork intestines was the highlight. Stirring the spicy sauce into the bowl halfway through turned it into karai ramen, so Gyedan Ramen never felt heavy down to the last spoonful.

On a Sunday evening, the tail end of the weekend, my wife and I headed out for a hearty, warm noodle dish to greet the coming week with energy.

We both love a deep, rich Japanese-style tonkotsu ramen, and we'd been craving a properly boiled bowl. So we visited Gyedan Ramen Mokdong Branch, a Mokdong favorite that's been word-of-mouth famous around Mokdong and Omokgyo since it opened, for its deep broth and unique toppings.

## Where is Gyedan Ramen Mokdong Branch and how do you get there?

Gyedan Ramen Mokdong Branch sits in the basement level of the PARK 161 building at 161 Mokdong-seoro, about a 470m walk from Omokgyo Station (Line 5) Exit 2 — great transit access. At the ground-floor entrance, a flashy blue staircase and a friendly signboard pointing to "Gyedan Ramen, B1" made it easy to find even on our first visit.

Heading down to the basement, a congratulatory wreath and a modern, clean facade instantly caught our eye — clearly a newly opened spot.

At the entrance, a menu board sat neatly beside a waitlist sheet, a clear sign this place gets busy enough to have lines during weekend peak hours.

## Inside Gyedan Ramen: seating and atmosphere

The dining hall at Gyedan Ramen Mokdong Branch was much roomier and more comfortable than it looked from outside. The tables were spaced generously, great for the two of us to eat comfortably.

Soft, warm lighting, a tidy wood-toned interior, and a stylish hanging scroll menu on the wall all came together to evoke the cozy feel of a ramen shop in Japan. The tables were wide and relaxed enough for comfortable dining, and other bloggers had all praised the place as good for solo dining with very kind staff — visiting in person, the staff really did greet us with bright, friendly smiles, putting us in a great mood before the meal even started. We sat down and ordered easily through the smart tablet kiosk installed at each table.

## What two people ordered for 26,000 won

We went with one Gyedan Ramen (basic) at ₩11,000, one of the restaurant's standout signature Motsu Ramen (rich) at ₩12,000, and one tamago bap (egg and rice) topped generously with yellow egg and pork at ₩3,000 — a satisfying ₩26,000 total. The tablet screen also had detailed tips on how to enjoy Gyedan Ramen at its best.

Gyedan Ramen's broth is made by simmering pork bone and chicken together for over 14 hours, apparently. The suggested method: enjoy the original broth first, then stir in the secret spicy sauce to transform it into a fiery karai ramen.

The tips also said tamago bap tastes best when gently mixed with chopsticks and dipped into the rich ramen broth until moist — our expectations were building.

Soon, the Gyedan Ramen and Motsu Ramen arrived in neat ceramic bowls alongside the fragrant tamago bap. The moment we saw them, we couldn't hold back a gasp — the generous, appetizing visuals were overwhelming.

Over the pale, rich broth sat crunchy wood ear mushroom strips, scallions, a moist soft-boiled egg, thick slices of char-grilled chashu, and for the Motsu Ramen, a generous pile of golden, crispy fried pork intestines (motsu).

## How does the Motsu Ramen (rich) taste?

One spoonful of the Motsu Ramen broth confirmed the 14-hour claim — a heavy, deep umami wrapped around my whole mouth. There was no gaminess or greasy heaviness, just clean, concentrated savoriness that felt instantly comforting.

The crispy yet chewy fried pork intestines released more savory oil and smoky char with every bite, pairing beautifully with the rich tonkotsu broth.

### Basic Gyedan Ramen with chashu, plus tamago bap

My wife's basic Gyedan Ramen was equally clean yet deeply flavorful, with thin, springy straight noodles that clung well to the rich broth — slurping them up was genuinely fun.

The thick chashu practically melted in the mouth after just a couple of bites — incredibly tender. The accompanying tamago bap had a perfect balance of fluffy yellow egg and savory minced meat, and dipping it lightly into the ramen broth as instructed made it an irresistible bowl-stealer.

### Turning the bowl into karai ramen halfway through

Midway through the meal, we stirred in a spoonful of the secret spicy sauce provided on the table, turning it into a spicy, punchy karai ramen — this kept the bowl interesting right to the end without ever feeling repetitive.

My wife kept praising the balance of broth and pork intestines, saying it ranked among the best Mokdong ramen she's had.

## Is Gyedan Ramen Mokdong worth a visit?

A clean, comfortable space, thoughtful and friendly staff, and an overwhelmingly deep broth with chewy pork intestine toppings — everything about this Sunday dinner was satisfying.

If you're near Omokgyo Station or Mokdong looking for a can't-miss tonkotsu ramen or a hearty meal at a great Mokdong ramen restaurant, I strongly and confidently recommend Gyedan Ramen Mokdong Branch.
