My husband and I took a slow lap around the neighborhood to get familiar with the area we’ll be moving to and have a look around. Just as we were getting peckish after our fun little neighborhood tour, we found a restaurant specializing in fish braises, which I absolutely love. It was Jeju Badang, on the second floor of the building right in front of Gagyeong Xi Apartments. We had such a satisfying, generous meal there that I had to introduce it to you! ## Friendly Service and a Well-Stocked Self-Service Bar We stopped by at lunchtime without a reservation. I was genuinely amazed when I saw it! Beyond the side dishes served at the table, it was full of tasty options: crispy, freshly fried boneless chicken, carefully prepared bracken fern greens, moist japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), and more. There was a nicely prepared playroom for children on one side, so it looked like a wonderfully comfortable place for families with young kids to eat. Before we knew it, the dining room quickly filled up and every table was taken. Looking around, I saw so many people having a cozy meal with their parents—probably because these are dishes that appeal to everyone, young and old. Once we move here in October, I’m sure I’ll be coming here often to eat out with my kids too. ## How Were the Boneless Braised Hairtail and Grilled Tilefish? At last, our main dishes arrived: boneless braised hairtail and grilled tilefish. The generously laden table made my mouth water immediately. ### Boneless Braised Hairtail Because it was boneless braised hairtail, it was so easy to eat. I could take a big piece of hairtail and eat it with rice without worrying about bones, and the savory flavor just burst across my mouth. The braising sauce was especially spicy and delicious, so in the end I mixed every last bit of it into my rice and cleaned my bowl completely. ### Grilled Tilefish The grilled tilefish, which I hadn’t had in ages, was crispy on the outside and moist inside—so nutty and delicious. From the excellent main dishes to the generous self-service bar, clean restaurant, and friendly service, nothing felt lacking. If you’re looking for a hearty, generous meal in Gagyeong-dong, Cheongju, or a good Gagyeong-dong restaurant to take your parents to, definitely visit Jeju Badang!
