Two guys in their 20s decided to have lunch together in Chuncheon. The conditions turned out to be trickier than expected. One wanted sushi, the other wanted something warm. We'd driven, so parking had to be easy too, and since we were finally meeting up, we didn't want to rush through a coffee-length meal and leave. Merging our two wish lists into one felt like it might turn into a long diplomatic negotiation, so we headed to QooQoo Chuncheon Branch, a well-known spot in Toegye-dong, Chuncheon.

It's open from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. We aimed for lunchtime but arrived a bit late, around noon, and for anyone who drove, finding the parking entrance mattered more than spotting the building itself. I tend to worry about my car's well-being before I even worry about lunch.

## Parking for 500 cars, 3 hours free with registration

On that front, the first impression was pretty reassuring. The building has a parking garage from B2 down to B6 with room for about 500 cars. Register your parking after eating and you get 3 hours free. No circling the building looking for a spot, no glancing at the clock mid-meal doing extra-fee math. Three hours is more than enough for lunch — enough time to finish every plate and write yourself a little essay of regret about how much you ate.

That said, the first attempt wasn't flawless. Trusting that there were plenty of spots underground, I drove in circles trying to find one close to the entrance. Why do we obsess over the one spot right by the door even when there are plenty of open ones? I ended up parking a bit farther away, but the walk to the elevator was only about two minutes. If I'd just taken the first open spot, it would've been faster. Today's first discovery wasn't about the food — it was that letting go of greed in the parking garage saves time.

## 180 seats and what families with kids get

Walking in, the size of the place was the first thing I noticed. With up to 180 seats, there was plenty of room, plus a 52-seat group space. The tables weren't crammed together, so even with multiple trips to the food counters, the flow never felt cramped. Families, groups of friends, and larger parties all mixed naturally in the same space. There's also a playroom, nursing room, baby chairs, and baby tableware, which explained why so many families were there.

What caught my attention that day wasn't any single dish. QooQoo Chuncheon Branch offers about 120 items combining sushi and rolls, hot dishes, grill and barbecue, salads, noodles, and desserts. The key here was that no one had to grip the menu and negotiate everyone's preferences. Whoever wants sushi heads to the sushi counter; whoever wants meat or something warm heads to the grill station. You don't have to convince each other — you can just sit at the same table.

### Why it paid off not to pile up the first plate

At first, I figured that at a buffet you're supposed to fill your plate with no empty spaces. That was mistake number two. With so many categories, grabbing a representative of every single one on the first plate just blurs your memory of what you actually ate. A diner at the next table calmly circled the counters once and took only what he needed. His plate was light, but his movements were confident. In my head, I quietly appointed him "master of buffet route planning."

From then on, I changed my approach. On the first plate, small portions of cold items; on the next, mostly warm dishes. Moving from one to the next made the temperature and texture of each dish much clearer. With sushi, the rice loosened gently on the first bite, and a couple more chews brought out the texture of the topping. With the warm dishes, the crisp exterior and moist interior came through in sequence. Taking smaller portions across multiple trips turned out to be a better way to taste a wide range than piling on one big plate.
