## The dinner-menu meeting that started right in front of Suwon Station

Whenever I have to go to Suwon Station, choosing a place to eat is surprisingly difficult. It is not that there are no restaurants. Quite the opposite. There are too many.

I had to sort out lunch near Suwon Station that day too, and I set my conditions rather seriously. I did not want to walk far from the station, but I did not want to just grab any old meal either, and it would be nice if two people could eat for under ₩30,000.

You may wonder whether choosing one meal really calls for this many conditions, but I become quite cautious in front of a menu. Especially somewhere like Suwon Station, where there are so many choices, getting the first choice wrong means walking another few hundred meters. That goes beyond failing to choose a restaurant; it is the collapse of the entire schedule.

That is how I found Rolling Pasta Suwon Station Branch.

The address is 2nd floor, 2 Hyanggyo-ro 1beon-gil, Paldal-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea (경기 수원시 팔달구 향교로1번길 2, 2층). It is close enough to Suwon Station to be listed as about 83 m from Exit 7. The official information says it is directly opposite Exit 12.

It is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., with last orders at 9 p.m.

Best of all, the restaurant information plainly says, “Solo diners welcome.” It is not the kind of place where you need to circle around twice and scout the inside before going in alone for pasta.

## The budget meeting that suddenly began in front of the menu

Before going in, I had planned to have pasta lightly.

But plans gradually change when you are looking at a menu.

There are pastas starting in the ₩7,000 range, such as aglio e olio, as well as plenty of choices including lasagna, gnocchi, and steak. Since we had come to a pasta place, choosing one pasta went smoothly enough.

The problem was the chop steak.

There had been an original principle of “let’s just have pasta,” but the moment I saw meat on the menu, that principle crumbled more easily than expected. I have repeatedly seen just how weak human will can be in situations like this.

In the end, we ordered tomato pasta for ₩7,900, chop steak for ₩15,900, Zero Coke for ₩2,000, and green grape ade for ₩4,000.

Total: ₩29,800.

We kept the original plan to eat for under ₩30,000, with exactly ₩200 to spare.

There is no real meaning in saving ₩200 itself, but seeing ₩29,800 on the receipt somehow made me feel as though I had completed a mission.

## I started with the tomato pasta

The tomato pasta was what I reached for first.

At ₩7,900, it was also the least burdensome choice of the day.

I twirled a few strands around my fork and put them in my mouth. The first thing I noticed was the tang of the tomato sauce; after a few chews, the noodles and sauce blended together and the flavor became softer than at first.

With tomato pasta like this, its character becomes clearer after three or four bites rather than at the first bite. The sauce does not stand out too sharply; it is more on the easy-to-eat side when it is coating the noodles.

And there was one small mistake here.

I started alternating the chop steak and pasta from the very beginning.

Once you eat it this way, there is no going back to the days of quietly eating only pasta.

No one had decided it, but at some point my own little course meal had come together.

## The ₩15,900 chop steak was the star of the day

The chop steak was the most expensive item we ordered that day. So I was a little nervous until it arrived.

I had invested ₩15,900, so now I had to find the reason for it on the plate.

Pick up a piece and it has a completely different texture from the pasta. At first, you get the seasoning on the meat’s surface and its meaty flavor, and then the springiness of the inside continues as you chew. Eating meat between bites of soft pasta changes the rhythm of the meal itself.

Rather than handling everything on its own, this menu really made its presence known when ordered alongside pasta.

When you eat noodles coated in tomato sauce and then pick up a piece of chop steak, it is fun to alternate between two different directions of food at one table.

Take a sip of the green grape ade here and there, too.

Its characteristic sweet green grape flavor and fizz freshen up your mouth once. Zero Coke is the safety officer that needs no explanation. Bring it in whenever the food starts to feel a little heavy.

One thing I noticed while eating was that it seemed easy to visit alone without feeling awkward.

The restaurant itself says it welcomes solo diners, and it has individual seats as well.

When you are looking to eat alone around Suwon Station, quick dishes like gukbap (rice soup) or bunsik (Korean casual snack food) are easy to think of first, but sometimes you just want pasta by yourself.

On those days, carbohydrates matter more than what other people think.

Group dining is possible too, and the restaurant information lists group seating for a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 24 people. However, group reservations are listed as being for weekdays, so it would be best to check in advance if several people are visiting.

There is no on-site parking. If you are bringing a car, it is good to keep that in mind before visiting.

I went in with ₩30,000 and had ₩200 left!
