As I walked around the neighborhood, the red roof and colorful sign caught my eye, so it was not difficult to locate. I deliberately visited a little early for dinner that day. Even so, I was almost the last customer to walk straight in, and after that people kept arriving and a wait formed. For it to be this busy so early, I thought, a place famous on Yongridan-gil really is different. ## A shop atmosphere like an old-school bunsik place The exterior already had such a cozy, familiar feel. With its red roof, the large Hyeonseonine lettering, and lights around the entrance, it reminded me of an old-school bunsik shop. Once inside, there are photos of Hyeonseonine from years past hung all along the walls. It was fun to look at the older versions of the shop in the photos. The tiled walls, wooden tables, and warm-toned lighting came together for an overall comfortable, nostalgic atmosphere. It was hard to take photos, though, because there were so many people 😁 The ordering counter and kitchen were constantly busy, and every table was full, so the restaurant itself felt quite lively. There is the Signature Hyeonseonine Set for ₩23,000, the Sunny Set for ₩18,000, and the Baby Set for ₩13,000, and you can choose mild or spicy tteokbokki. But it was not as sweet or intense as I expected. The rice cakes were wonderfully chewy, making them great to bite into; at first they tasted clean and simple, but the more I chewed, the more a subtle sweetness came through. It was so nice to get all the things you want from a bunsik shop at once: tteokbokki, fish cakes, sundae, gimbap, and fritters. ## Final thoughts on Hyeonseonine Yongsan Main Branch Rather than a flashy, modern bunsik shop, it had the comfortable, familiar flavors that come from a bunsik place loved for a long time. Seeing the wait keep forming for myself, I understood that it is not famous for no reason! If you want easygoing, delicious bunsik in Yongsan, it is a Yongridan-gil spot worth visiting at least once.
