## In short

Horanggul Bangi Branch is a Japanese-style gopchang (beef tripe) and daechang (beef intestine) hot pot restaurant and bar in the Bangi-dong dining alley in Songpa, Seoul. On this fourth visit, after the Gwacheon and Suwon branches, two of us skipped the usual gopdaechang hot pot and had the gopchang hot pot for two at 33,800 won with a jjambbong (spicy noodle) add-on for dinner. The broth was less rich than the gopdaechang version but turned sharper the longer it simmered, making Horanggul Bangi Branch a good call in Bangi-dong when you want a fiery bowl of soup.

Went to Jamsil with a close friend and ended up at Horanggul in the Bangi-dong dining alley right around dinnertime. This is already my fourth visit to Horanggul.

This dining alley is packed with good bars and restaurants alike. After the Gwacheon and Suwon branches, this time it was Horanggul Bangi Branch, the daechang (beef intestine) specialist! I don't actually eat the tripe or intestine itself, but I love the hot pot broth, the vegetables, and the noodle add-ons in it, haha. Went right after break time ended so there was no waiting, which was great.

## What is Horanggul Bangi Branch? Address and hours

Horanggul Bangi Branch is a gopchang and daechang hot pot specialist in the Bangi-dong dining alley. The flagship is in Beomgye, and apparently the brand has held a Blue Ribbon award for two years running. With its izakaya-like atmosphere and rich, spicy gopchang hot pot, it's worth checking out if you're looking for a bar in the Bangi-dong dining alley or a Japanese-style menu near Songridan-gil — here's my review.

Authentic gopchang and daechang hot pot learned straight from Japan. It's a bar-and-restaurant hybrid where you can enjoy a wide range of side dishes along with it.

### Inside Horanggul Bangi Branch: an izakaya-style room

Horanggul Bangi Branch feels less like a gopchang hot pot restaurant and more like a small Japanese eatery or izakaya — that's really the defining feature. Cozy and quiet, which I liked a lot.

## Gopchang hot pot for two, 33,800 won — enough for two people

Ordering is via QR code, and we got the gopchang hot pot for two at ₩33,800 plus a jjambbong noodle add-on for ₩3,500. That's exactly what we ordered for dinner for two. It looks like it might be a small portion, but you'll end up stuffed. At the other branches I always order the gopdaechang hot pot, but this time I decided to try the plain gopchang version instead.

### Gopchang hot pot vs gopdaechang hot pot: how the taste differs

I'd always only had the gopdaechang version, so this was my first time with the plain gopchang hot pot. Here it comes! The gopdaechang version has a deep, rich flavor, while the gopchang version was a touch less intense — but still delicious.

Each table has its own burner, and they give you a timer — you're supposed to keep it simmering for 10 more minutes according to the clock.

As the broth starts boiling, the savory flavor from the gopchang and the fully cooked vegetables make the broth grow richer and richer. Even the smell alone makes it perfect as a drinking snack or a full meal — spicy in the best way. Even after the full 10 minutes, keep simmering as you eat — it tastes better the longer it cooks.

## How to cook Horanggul's motsunabe (offal hot pot) properly

Once the Horanggul gopchang hot pot is fully cooked, eat the tofu, fried tofu, and vegetables first, then let the meat and gopchang cook for 3 more minutes before eating those. You can't add extra broth or other ingredients — only noodle add-ons are allowed — so pace yourself accordingly. No broth refills allowed 😭😭

The savory oil rendered from the gopchang soaks into the broth, so the flavor deepens and grows spicier the longer it simmers.

My friend ate it together with the bean sprouts, fried tofu, and meat, and said the gopchang was chewy and savory with no funky smell at all. I always notice any off smell right away when I eat the broth and other ingredients, but there was none of that here — totally clean. Real gopchang hot pot, done right, in the Bangi-dong dining alley.

## Finishing with the jjambbong noodle add-on, 3,500 won

Save some broth and add the jjambbong noodles. The jjambbong noodles soak up the broth better than udon noodles would. It genuinely feels like starting a second round. If you're craving a fiery bowl of soup in Bangi-dong, or looking for gopchang hot pot near Songridan-gil, you'll probably love this place (risotto or fried rice would probably be great here too).

The meal at Horanggul Bangi Branch was the same solid experience as the other branches, and that hot, hearty broth really felt like a proper pick-me-up.
