## In short

Munhwa Bakery is a bakery in Ikseon-dong, Jongno, Seoul, about 2 minutes from Jongno 3-ga Station Exit 7 toward Changdeokgung Palace. Stopping in on a gallery-hopping day, the writer ordered all three signature breads — garlic bread, coffee bread and onion bagel — and asked to have them sliced on the spot, only to be shocked by the size of the loaves and the amount of cream inside. Since the shop closes early once the breads sell out, it's worth getting there sooner rather than later.

## A bakery stop on my one-gallery-a-day route

I used to come to Ikseon-dong a lot back when it first got popular, and now that I've been visiting the galleries nearby a lot, I heard there was a decent bakery here, so I came to check it out :)

These days I'm doing one gallery a day, so I stopped by here on the way haha. There were a lot of varied, unique menu items, and I saw quite a few foreign visitors coming in too haha. Seems like a lot of the famous breads sold in Korea are here haha.

![Entrance to Munhwa Bakery](https://img.superchart.com/images/ikseondong-bakery-gallery-walk-signature-three/ikseondong-bakery-gallery-walk-signature-three-04-9sbpd-900.webp)

I liked the entrance, and it was even better because there were so many delicious-looking breads. There were so many kinds that I could pick freely, whatever I felt like eating.

## Ordering all three signature breads: garlic bread, coffee bread, onion bagel

Signature garlic bread ₩6,800, coffee bread ₩5,800, onion bagel ₩6,000. Ordered.

I tried ordering all of the signature menu items. They sliced them right there on the spot, and the portions were really generous. The taste was great, but honestly, the size really shocked me.

![Large bread filled generously with cream](https://img.superchart.com/images/ikseondong-bakery-gallery-walk-signature-three/ikseondong-bakery-gallery-walk-signature-three-07-dg0je-900.webp)

It was so nice that there were unique, varied breads haha. And the breads were really big, with cream packed in without holding back. I think it'd go really well with coffee. Also, this place closes early — seems like once the breads sell out, they just close for the day haha.

There were so many delicious breads and I loved it. I ended up buying a lot of the signature items, and I'm looking forward to them — they seem like they'll be really tasty. I heard people deliberately come all the way here just for this, so I'm really curious what it tastes like haha.

## A good stop to pair with a gallery walk near Anguk Station

There are a lot of galleries starting from Anguk Station nearby, plus the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Seoul, so this seems like a good spot to come to with friends after gallery-hopping, when you want bread and coffee.

They clearly didn't skimp on ingredients — the toppings and cream were packed in generously, which I loved haha. Definitely a flavor I want to try again haha.

If you like bread, I think it's worth trying this place. There were a lot of unique menu items and it all seemed pretty good.

### Asking for slicing when getting it to go

Personally, this was the one I was most curious about and wanted to try, so I got it. It seems like it'd be great with coffee, and you can even ask them to slice it when you're getting it to go. I didn't want to slice it myself, so I asked for the slicing service too haha.

These are breads that really bring out the flavor of the ingredients, so it's fun to pick according to your own taste. I think the sweet potato bread would be great with milk — with plain white milk it'd probably be even nuttier. The portions are big too, so it's good as a snack, or a light bite after working out haha.

### Coffee bread with a strong coffee aroma

This coffee bread was a bit unique. The aroma was really strongly coffee-scented haha. It seemed like a lot of people were quietly buying it, so I was curious haha. This one also seemed to be one of their signature items.

And the portion was really huge, and the garlic bread seemed to have a ton of garlic in it haha. The amount was just so, so much.

Signature garlic bread ₩6,800, coffee bread ₩5,800, onion bagel ₩6,000. Got them//

If you're nearby, definitely give it a try once. You can enjoy a wide variety of breads.
