## In short

Gwangseonjip Kkachisan Station Main Branch is a charcoal-grilled pork BBQ restaurant in Hwagok-dong, Gangseo, Seoul, a 3-minute walk from Kkachisan Station Exit 2. The writer walked in with no wait at 9pm on a weekend and ordered the assorted half platter of kkodeulsal, ppolsal and Jeju ogyeopsal, all grilled over charcoal by the staff and brought out ready to eat, along with a complimentary gatkimchi-jjim, a shiitake wasabi side dish, and even digestive enzymes and a hangover remedy. On a night when you want specialty pork cuts without doing the grilling yourself, Gwangseonjip is the answer.

This post is a review of Gwangseonjip, a Gangseo-gu pork BBQ restaurant near Kkachisan Station 😋 I used to pass by it on the bus and thought the interior looked so pretty and clean that I saved it to my restaurant map on the spot!

![Exterior and sign of Gwangseonjip near Kkachisan Station](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night-01-1xt3d-900.webp)

> Gwangseonjip near Kkachisan Station: an easygoing spot for rare pork cuts

This Kkachisan Station BBQ spot serves up smoky kkodeulsal, ppolsal, and Jeju samgyeopsal, with a solid side dish lineup including shiitake wasabi and geotjeori. From the enzyme and honey service to the hangover remedy, there are thoughtful little details everywhere that make you want to come back ✨

## Is there a wait at Gwangseonjip at 9pm on a weekend?

Gwangseonjip is normally known for its long waits, but at around 9pm on a weekend I walked straight in!! There are 5-6 waiting chairs set up out front, so even if you do have to queue, you can wait a bit more comfortably.

Kkachisan Station is super walkable, and there's a bus stop right in front of the restaurant, so it's a great location to reach by public transit.

Gwangseonjip stays open until midnight, so I figured it'd work well as a late-night snack spot too, and sure enough, the whole time I sat there the place kept getting more and more packed. Busy even at this hour — clearly a place that's genuinely doing well.

As for the interior 📸 there were rows of lilac-like artificial flowers hanging down, giving plenty of great photo spots. The walls have a green accent, and the wooden sign with 'Gwangseonjip' handwritten on it had real character too. Every table has a wooden surface with a charcoal brazier, giving the whole place a pretty cozy feel 😌

Off to one side of the entrance sits a large chandelier and a teddy bear, which caught my eye more than once. The attention to interior detail here is next level.

## Gwangseonjip menu and the events running now

Ordering is done via the kiosk at every table. You can order full or half platters depending on your party size.

Order a full or half platter and gatkimchi-jjim (braised green onion kimchi) comes free ✨ À la carte, you can pick from the 1984 seasoned signature cuts, Jeju black pork samgyeopsal, kkodeulsal, boedeulsal, and saenggyeopdegi.

Looking at the sides — spicy clam doenjang stew, perilla oil naengmyeon, kimchi mari guksu, gatkimchi-jjim, hangover ramen, fried rice — there are so many options it's a happy dilemma figuring out what to eat after the meat.

## The banchan spread, plus free digestive enzymes and hangover remedy

Geotjeori made with onion and crunchy vegetables tossed in a sweet-and-sour dressing, pickled peppers, and chive salad were all great pairings for cutting through the richness of the meat.

Right as we sat down, along with the table setup, the staff brought over digestive enzymes and honey. The thoughtful gesture to protect your stomach won me over before the meal even started.

They even melt corn cheese for you, which really wakes up your appetite as an appetizer. Also a top-tier drinking snack 👍

Our drinks of choice today were soju and beer 🍻🍾

![Soju and beer set out on the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night-08-yuejo-900.webp)

When I ordered soju, they brought out an ice basket and a hangover remedy along with it!! 👏👏 Enzymes for round one and a hangover remedy for round two — these small details won me over completely?! Boss, you're so sweet.... 💗

## Gwangseonjip's assorted half platter: specialty pork cuts grilled over charcoal for you

Today we ordered the assorted half platter. Even as a half platter, the portion was pretty generous. Bean sprouts, bracken fern, mushrooms, chives, kimchi, and the meat — such a solid lineup of things to grill on the pan.

![Vegetable lineup on Gwangseonjip's assorted half platter](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night-10-lrjyb-900.webp)

At Gwangseonjip, once you order, the meat comes out fully grilled over charcoal from the kitchen. Highly recommend for a BBQ spot that grills the meat for you. I just sat there and ate the meat as-is, only needing to lightly cook the side vegetables myself.

![Assorted pork cuts grilled and served over charcoal](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night-11-5ospf-1200.webp)

The specialty cuts were kkodeulsal, ppolsal, and Jeju samgyeopsal, and maybe because they're grilled over charcoal, all three had a subtle smoky flavor that hit first.

### Free gatkimchi-jjim with every assorted platter

Time to finally dig into some drinking snacks with the alcohol. 👇The free item that comes with an assorted platter order👇 gatkimchi-jjim.

![Gatkimchi-jjim served free with the assorted platter order](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night-14-1wom3-900.webp)

I was surprised that the gatkimchi-jjim, even as a free side, had more meat in it than I expected. The meat was also super tender 🤤

This was my first time trying gatkimchi-jjim, and eating it with the meat turned out to be a total win of a combo.

I came for the meat but ended up feeling a real burst of Korean flavor from this dish. Definitely one I'd recommend to foreign tourists! ✨ Let me break down the appeal of each specialty cut 💋

![Close-up of the specialty pork cuts on the pan](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night-16-sdqik-900.webp)

![Grilled ppolsal at Gwangseonjip](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night-17-1guni-900.webp)

### Ppolsal vs kkodeulsal vs ogyeopsal: how each cut tastes

Ppolsal wasn't greasy at all — it was clean and nutty, with a savoriness that lingered on subtly, so the richness kept building with every bite.

Dipping it plain in sauce is delicious of course, but mixing it with the side dishes was even more fun. Each cut had such a different texture and flavor that it was hard to pick a favorite 😆

![Meat wrapped and eaten with side vegetables](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night-18-19yya-900.webp)

With kkodeulsal, the moment you bite in you feel a firm springiness, and as you keep chewing the juices burst out along with just the right amount of fat. No toughness at all — it sat perfectly between chewy and tender.

![A piece of kkodeulsal at Gwangseonjip](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night-19-1mrk7-900.webp)

The samgyeopsal had just the right fat-to-lean ratio, so it wasn't greasy, and as you chewed, sweetness and nuttiness rose up together. It was best topped with gatkimchi — the salty, sharp kick of the kimchi cut right through the fat, and I kept reaching for that exact combo. A full bite, then a shot of soju 🤝

### Best side dish at Gwangseonjip: shiitake wasabi

Out of all the combinations, the biggest surprise was the shiitake wasabi. I don't normally eat wasabi at all. But this was so mild and delicious that I kept picking at it. Personally, this was the number one side dish at this restaurant. The chewy texture with a sharp, tingling kick was seriously addictive… 🥰

![Gwangseonjip's shiitake wasabi side dish](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night-21-1ywjm-900.webp)

## Finish with fried rice made with the grilled vegetables

After finishing the meat, you can't skip out on a K-dessert. Time to properly fill up on carbs after all that protein.

![Kimchi and seaweed flake fried rice ingredients on the pan](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night-22-14xtt-900.webp)

Pressing the leftover vegetables on the pan together with kimchi, rice, and dried seaweed flakes lets the meat's oil and seasoning soak in just right, creating a fried rice unlike anything I've had elsewhere. This is a can't-skip course you finish while patting your full belly.

![Finished fried rice pressed on the pan at Gwangseonjip](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night-23-17058-900.webp)

![Close-up of a spoonful of the fried rice](https://img.superchart.com/images/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night/gwangseonjip-kkachisan-special-cuts-night-24-16yb1-900.webp)

On the way out after finishing, I saw there was a meal voucher raffle so I filled one out before leaving 🤘 With all the little touches they take care of plus genuinely great meat, if you're looking for a specialty pork cut BBQ spot in Hwagok-dong, I really recommend Gwangseonjip 😆👏 I still didn't get to try all the side dishes, so I'm planning to go back and work through them one by one 🤤
