## In short

Manmok is a Japanese restaurant in Gangnam, Seoul, serving a single menu: eel rice bowl. After a family health checkup, three of us ordered three half-size eel rice bowls, each served as an individual set with salad, steamed egg, and a pine mushroom broth we refilled three times after adding sansho pepper powder. It was a satisfying, restorative meal that ended with a dessert ice cream everyone loved.

My mom, Nini, and I had just finished our health checkups and figured we should treat ourselves to something restorative! Here's my review of Manmok, well known for Seonleung Station work dinners, Daechi-dong lunches, and solo eel rice bowl meals in Gangnam. I hope this detailed post helps!

## Location and atmosphere at Manmok near Seonleung Station

Manmok is right by Seonleung Station, so it's easy to find! It's on the ground floor with lots of seating, and the space was bigger than I expected. The staff are friendly, and it's famous for the open kitchen where you can watch them grill the eel by hand from outside. It's great for family gatherings or work dinners, and the facilities are convenient too!

From the outside alone, Manmok already gives off that good-restaurant vibe, and the interior has a stylish, spacious feel. Since they open in the morning, a lot of people come for lunch too, and it's great for work dinners, group gatherings, and family meals!

### Group table, reservations, and corkage

There's a private group table in the middle toward the back, perfect for a private gathering. We sat in the back, and we'd reserved through Naver beforehand. Corkage is also allowed, so it's a great spot to bring your own wine and enjoy it together!

## One menu item, three sizes

Once we sat down, the menu was laid out neatly — and true to their craftsman confidence, there was only one dish: eel rice bowl, available in three sizes — half, whole, and one-and-a-half. The drinks list was simple but had everything you'd need, and some of the drinks even had a lunchtime discount! If I hadn't just had a checkup, I'd have ordered one right away, haha — next time for sure! Right next to the table there were cups, tableware, tissues, and aprons for self-service, which was really convenient.

## Three half-size eel rice bowls, served as individual sets

The interior was so stylish it added to the mood, haha. Since we wanted something simple, we ordered three half-size eel rice bowls in total! Each came out as its own individual set, which was lovely, and we also got radish salad (mu-saengchae) and white kimchi (baek-kimchi) as extra side dishes — both refillable and delicious! The radish salad had a spicy kick that cut through any richness nicely.

The set included salad, sides, steamed egg (gyeranjjim), a broth with pine mushroom (songhwa mushroom), and the half-size eel rice bowl — such a complete meal! The broth was refillable, and I had it three times, haha. The pine mushroom was so tasty, and there was even sansho pepper powder to add — you have to try it with that! And the eel rice bowl came piled high with eel!!!

### How the eel tasted and its texture

It was such a great lunch — my mom was jealous of Nini for getting the middle cut, since apparently the size of the eel varies by part, haha. The flavor was consistent throughout, not too salty, with just the right seasoning that went perfectly with the rice. No bones to worry about, and it was so tender! Being grilled over charcoal really made a difference — it paired beautifully with the rice, and the texture was fantastic!

## Don't skip the sansho pepper powder in the broth

That right there is the sansho pepper powder! Adding it to the broth takes the savory flavor to another level — you have to try it! We enjoyed the eel in all sorts of ways, and the rice layer was quite thin, so the meal never felt too heavy — just the right amount.

## Dessert ice cream: green tea or black tea

You can see how clean our bowls were — practically did the dishes for them, haha. Oh, and don't get up right away — if you say you're done eating, they'll bring out dessert ice cream. You have to try it, it's genuinely delicious! They ask you to choose between green tea and black tea, so we each picked one — the black tea tasted like Earl Grey and was amazing, and the green tea was rich and delicious too! My mom is pretty picky, but all three of us — her, Nini, and me — were very satisfied!

Manmok is in a great spot near Seonleung Station where you can enjoy a really tasty eel rice bowl!!! I recommend it for Seonleung Station work dinners, Daechi-dong lunches, or a solo eel rice bowl meal in Gangnam~~!
