## In short

Jongga Mandu (종가만두) Jongno branch is a dumpling restaurant on Supyo-ro in Jongno-gu, Seoul, offering dumpling hot pot alongside boiled dumplings, fried dumplings, shrimp tempura, and bibim kalguksu (spicy mixed noodles). This visit skipped the hot pot for shrimp tempura (₩9,000), boiled dumplings (₩9,000), and bibim kalguksu (₩12,000), totaling ₩30,000 split between two people. The mild dumplings balanced well against the tangy-spicy noodles, making it a solid pick for sharing.

A Jongno dumpling favorite, Jongga Mandu Jongno branch — from shrimp tempura to boiled dumplings and bibim kalguksu. I was looking for a hearty meal in Jongno and ended up at Jongga Mandu Jongno branch. Dumplings are the main draw, but there's enough variety here that anyone who loves dumplings should try it at least once. Beyond dumpling hot pot, the menu also covers boiled dumplings, fried dumplings, shrimp tempura, and bibim kalguksu.

Jongga Mandu sits at 88 Supyo-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul, right between Jongno 3-ga and Euljiro 3-ga stations, so it was easy to get to. It's a good spot for office workers grabbing a meal nearby, and also works well for friends or family sharing several dishes together.

## The vibe inside

![Casual interior of Jongga Mandu Jongno branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/jongno-mandu-shrimp-tempura-boiled-dumpling/jongno-mandu-shrimp-tempura-boiled-dumpling-05-18bv6-900.webp)

The space overall has a comfortable, casual dumpling-shop feel. Rather than flashy, trendy interiors, it's set up so you can focus on the food — which actually made it easier to walk in without any pressure.

Given the Jongno location, there were a lot of office workers and people out for a meal. It's clearly a spot many visit for dumpling hot pot and other filling dishes, and other reviews mention it being popular for lunch, dinner, and group meals too.

## Menu lineup — plenty to choose beyond the hot pot

Dumpling hot pot is the signature dish here, and I liked that you can pick based on preference — clear broth, spicy, half-and-half broth, or spicy beef brisket. This time, though, I wanted to try a range of dishes rather than commit to one hot pot, so I picked other items instead.

Looking at the menu, there's a good range of dumpling hot pot types plus plenty of solid side dishes. Standouts include the half-and-half broth hot pot, spicy hot pot, and clear hot pot, along with the popular bibim kalguksu (mashed-and-mixed noodles). You can also order fried dumplings, boiled dumplings, and shrimp tempura separately.

If dumplings alone feel like too little but a full hot pot feels like too much, picking dumplings plus a couple of side dishes — like I did — is a good way to sample a bit of everything.

## What we ordered and the prices

![Table spread with shrimp tempura, boiled dumplings, and bibim kalguksu](https://img.superchart.com/images/jongno-mandu-shrimp-tempura-boiled-dumpling/jongno-mandu-shrimp-tempura-boiled-dumpling-08-fxwt2-900.webp)

This time we ordered:

- Shrimp tempura ₩9,000
- Boiled dumplings ₩9,000
- Bibim kalguksu ₩12,000
- Total ₩30,000

Ordering all three at once, as shown in the photo, made for a pretty varied spread — great for sharing among a group. The shrimp tempura was crispy and paired well with the dumplings, and the boiled dumplings let you taste the dumpling itself in a clean, mild way.

### Shrimp tempura

![Close-up of crispy fried shrimp tempura](https://img.superchart.com/images/jongno-mandu-shrimp-tempura-boiled-dumpling/jongno-mandu-shrimp-tempura-boiled-dumpling-10-xaff4-900.webp)

We started with the shrimp tempura — crispy on the outside with the shrimp's springy texture still coming through inside. Really enjoyed it.

It was oddly fun that a dumpling place also serves shrimp tempura. If you've been eating dumplings for a while and things start feeling a bit heavy, the tempura is a nice change of pace. The batter wasn't overly thick either — the crispiness really came through, and eating it warm brought out a nutty, toasty flavor.

### Boiled dumplings

![Close-up of a boiled dumpling with a thin wrapper](https://img.superchart.com/images/jongno-mandu-shrimp-tempura-boiled-dumpling/jongno-mandu-shrimp-tempura-boiled-dumpling-13-gplfg-m-900.webp)

![Cross-section showing the filling of a boiled dumpling](https://img.superchart.com/images/jongno-mandu-shrimp-tempura-boiled-dumpling/jongno-mandu-shrimp-tempura-boiled-dumpling-14-wjerb-900.webp)

Next, the boiled dumplings. Of everything we ordered that day, this was the dish where I could taste the dumpling itself most clearly. No frying, no heavy sauce — just the plain, clean flavor of the wrapper and filling.

The wrapper wasn't too thick, so it didn't feel heavy, and the filling was soft with just enough bite. Jongga Mandu is known for making its dumplings by hand, and other reviews mention the same thing — thin wrappers that don't tear easily, and a crisp texture in the filling.

So if you prefer mild, satisfyingly-filled dumplings over strongly seasoned ones, this would suit you well.

### Mashed-and-mixed bibim kalguksu

![A bowl of mashed-and-mixed bibim kalguksu at Jongga Mandu](https://img.superchart.com/images/jongno-mandu-shrimp-tempura-boiled-dumpling/jongno-mandu-shrimp-tempura-boiled-dumpling-15-1gm2d-1200.webp)

![Close-up of bibim kalguksu noodles mixed with seasoning](https://img.superchart.com/images/jongno-mandu-shrimp-tempura-boiled-dumpling/jongno-mandu-shrimp-tempura-boiled-dumpling-16-1wn71-900.webp)

Last was the bibim kalguksu — listed on the menu as the 'mashed-and-mixed bibim kalguksu.' Of everything we had that meal, this stood out as the most unique.

The seasoning coated the noodles well, and it worked nicely paired with the dumplings. After the mild dumpling flavors, a bite of the tangy, spicy noodles was like a reset for the palate.

Having a dish like this in the mix really helps when you're ordering multiple things together. The boiled dumplings and shrimp tempura leaned mild and savory, while the bibim kalguksu brought a strong, punchy flavor — the balance between them worked well. Overall, with three different dishes, each with its own flavor and texture, nothing felt repetitive.

## Final thoughts on Jongga Mandu Jongno branch

What I liked most about Jongga Mandu Jongno branch was being able to enjoy such a range — dumpling hot pot, dumplings, noodles, and fried dishes — all in one place.

We skipped the hot pot this time, but next visit I'd love to try the signature dumpling hot pot. Other reviews often mention people coming for the clean, mild hot pot or the spicy version, and note it's a plus that you can enjoy noodles and vegetables together with the dumplings in the broth.

The shrimp tempura, boiled dumplings, and bibim kalguksu we ordered this time were each quite different in style, which made for great sharing among a group, and tasting all three gave us a good sense of the range Jongga Mandu offers.

If you're looking for a filling meal of dumplings or noodles in Jongno, this is worth a visit. Next time, I'm getting the dumpling hot pot for real!
