When you think 'gomtang restaurant,' you might picture somewhere with a slightly worn interior, but Geumnyeong Gomtang Yeoksam Branch has plenty of seating and a memorably clean interior. The menu isn't huge — gomtang, rice noodles, pollock salad, boiled pork slices, and a few others — but that focus gave me the impression they're confident in what they serve.

After you order from the menu, the owner brings out water and kimchi, as shown in the photos below. Food comes out pretty quickly, but if you're really hungry, I'd recommend cutting into the kimchi and having a few bites while you wait.

## Minari gomtang and spicy pollock salad: how much rice is in the bowl?

What I ordered at Geumnyeong Gomtang Yeoksam Branch was the pollock salad and minari gomtang. Minari in gomtang? I thought at first, but it turned out to be very clean-tasting and delicious. If the rice runs short, you can always ask for more — just tell the owner if you want to eat more filling.

The amount of rice that comes with the dish by default isn't huge. But in a way, I actually liked that it wasn't loaded with rice — because there was less rice, I could taste the broth and the minari aroma more fully than I expected, which made for a surprisingly good meal.

Is there anything better than gomtang? So good. You might think there's a ton of minari in it, but when you actually eat it, the minari mostly comes through as aroma rather than an overpowering flavor. I love minari, so honestly I even wanted a stronger minari taste. There's rice cake in there too, and the pollock salad is excellent on its own, but the kimchi is also a standout — piling gomtang, rice, and kimchi together on one spoon is a taste that makes all your worries disappear.
