I don't know why it's so hard to pick just one thing at a bakery these days, haha. This time I visited Byway Bakers Balsan Station, near Balsan Station. I didn't stay and eat in the shop — I picked out a bunch of breads I wanted and took them home to eat.

and it's open from 09:00 to 20:00, closed every Wednesday. Parking isn't available separately, so that's worth keeping in mind before you visit.

## Store atmosphere and seating

Once you step inside Byway Bakers Balsan Station, the seating area is cleaner and more spacious than I expected. Wood-toned tables and chairs give the whole place a warm, comfortable feel, and the front of the store is a full glass window, so it doesn't feel cramped at all.

Posters about bread and drinks hang on the walls, giving it that proper bakery café vibe. The tables aren't packed too tightly together either, so it seemed like a good spot to stop by alone for bread and coffee, or to sit and chat with a friend without any pressure.

### How to pick out the bread

To choose your bread, you use the trays and tongs set up in the store and pick out whatever you want yourself.

The monitor up top shows the drink menu clearly, so it's easy to decide what to pair with your bread too. Overall the store felt neat and organized rather than chaotic, which makes it a comfortable stop for anyone looking for a Balsan Station dessert café.

## Do they have cake too? Insulated bags and reservations

While browsing the bread, I noticed a showcase on one side with cakes too. I thought they only had baked goods like salt bread and financiers, but they sell cakes as well, so the menu range was wider than I expected. According to the signage on the showcase, cakes come with a free insulated bag when purchased.

Cakes always make you a bit anxious about storage while you're on the move, so having packaging like this taken care of felt like a nice touch. The sign also recommended reserving a day ahead, so if you need one for a specific date like a birthday or anniversary, it's better to book in advance.

## How many kinds of salt bread and financiers are there?

Once you step inside, the bread selection is really more varied than you'd expect. Just for salt bread alone there's the basic salt bread, mocha salt bread, ham cheese salt bread, egg salt bread, and more,

and the financiers come in salty, fig, pecan, hwangchi (aged) cheese, choco almond, Oreo, vanilla, and pistachio. On top of that there's egg tart, apple cinnamon tart, and jambon-beurre baguette, so once you're there you end up picking up a bit of everything, haha.

I was only planning to pick out desserts this time, but I spotted the jambon-beurre baguette and grabbed one to take home too.

## Tasting each bread I took home

> Egg tart!

First up, the egg tart! Personally, if a café has an egg tart, I always try it once, and Byway Bakers' version wasn't easy to pass up either. The outside was crisp, with a soft, moist filling inside — perfect when you're craving something sweet.

It wasn't too heavy or overwhelming, just the right size to have one alongside coffee. If you're looking for an egg tart near Balsan Station, it's worth picking one up together with a salt bread or financier.

The Oreo financier looked sweet just from the visuals alone. The financier's signature dense, moist texture combined with Oreo flavor — anyone who likes sweets will especially love this one! It leans more toward a dessert-like sweetness than a regular financier, so it's great to have when you need a sugar fix, haha.

Personally, the salty financier had a completely different charm from the Oreo one! It's not just sweet — there's a salty note too, so I kept reaching for more. The financier itself wasn't dry or greasy, but moist and densely textured inside, which I liked. When you've had a lot of sweet baked goods, you can get tired of it fast, but the sweet-salty combo of the salty financier made it a great one to break things up with.

And tucked in among the sweet desserts, the jambon-beurre baguette! If I'd only bought sweet breads, I might have gotten a bit tired of them, so buying the jambon-beurre baguette alongside was a good call.

The baguette's plain, savory flavor paired with ham and butter made it good enough to work as a light meal substitute too.

It'd pair well with coffee if you want a light breakfast or lunch. I liked that this isn't just a dessert bakery — they also have meal-like options like this.

And of course, the salt bread! Byway Bakers Balsan Station has quite a few varieties of salt bread, but this time I went with the most basic one. Since salt bread uses such simple ingredients, you can really taste the dough texture and butter flavor. The outside was appropriately crisp while the inside stayed moist rather than dry, so it was delicious even on its own. The saltiness wasn't too strong, and the buttery aroma came through naturally — I finished it in no time, haha.

If you're after salt bread at a Balsan Station café, it's fun to start with the basic one and work your way through the other varieties. The store carries not just salt bread and financiers but also butter rice cakes, tarts, baguettes, and more, and drinks include americano, latte, milk tea, matcha latte, ade, and various teas.
