## In short

J's Pot Magok Branch is a single-pot shabu-shabu and hot pot restaurant on basement level 2 of COEX Magok Tower A in Gangseo, Seoul. I picked the katsuobushi (dried bonito) broth, added bean sprouts and fried tofu to the basic vegetable plate, chose flat glass noodles, and mixed my own dipping sauce at the sauce bar. With bar seating and an induction burner at every seat, eating alone at J's Pot never felt awkward.

Today it's J's Pot Magok Branch, a COEX Magok restaurant where solo dining is totally doable.

COEX Magok Mall has all kinds of restaurants worth stopping by while shopping. On a day when I was craving something warm and soupy, I went looking for a place where I could pick my own broth and ingredients — and ended up at J's Pot Magok Branch! Since everyone gets their own personal pot, it's easy for a group to each order something different, and it's not awkward at all to eat alone.

## Where is J's Pot Magok Branch? Hours and parking

J's Pot Magok Branch sits on basement level 2 of COEX Magok Tower A — a perfect spot to grab a meal after shopping or running errands. Since it's indoors, weather isn't really a factor when deciding to visit.

- Mon–Fri 11:00–22:00 / break 15:00–17:00 / last order 21:00
- Sat–Sun 11:00–22:00 / last order 21:00
- Parking available

If you're driving, the COEX Mall parking lot is available, so coming by car was easy too!

## Can you eat alone? Bar tables with an induction burner per seat

Walking into J's Pot Magok Branch, the clean interior caught my eye right away. Black tones and wood accents gave it a sleek feel, and every table had its own induction burner, so you can start cooking right where you sit.

Best of all, I loved the bar-style seating!

Besides the group tables where people sit facing each other, there are also comfortable seats for solo diners, and since every seat uses its own individual pot, this is a great spot for anyone looking for a restaurant in COEX Magok where solo dining feels natural. You might think eating shabu-shabu alone would feel a bit awkward, but the whole setup here makes it feel easy.

## J's Pot Magok menu: 8 broths and what the sets include

![First page of the J's Pot Magok Branch menu](https://img.superchart.com/images/jspot-magok-solo-katsuo-broth-shabu/jspot-magok-solo-katsuo-broth-shabu-05-haxhn-900.webp)

The biggest draw of J's Pot is that you can mix and match everything to your taste — broth, meat, seafood, noodles, fish balls, vegetables.

![Menu page for choosing broths like original, mala, and tomato](https://img.superchart.com/images/jspot-magok-solo-katsuo-broth-shabu/jspot-magok-solo-katsuo-broth-shabu-06-pm0j1-900.webp)

Along with the original broth, there's kimchi, mala, tomato, tom yum, bonito, tonkotsu, Mongolian spicy, and more — plenty of options to match whatever flavor you're in the mood for.

The signature hot pot sets were also split by protein — beef, pork, lamb, seafood.

I also spotted a lunch set with broth, assorted vegetables, 110g of beef short rib, rice, and 2 fish balls.

Beyond that, there was a wide range of cooked dishes too — mala sausage hot pot, beef brisket kimchi udon, bulgogi hot pot, fried rice, chicken, and more. I chose the bonito broth and added fried tofu and bean sprouts to the basic vegetables! For the noodle course, you can pick from glass noodles, udon, ramyeon and more — I went with flat glass noodles.

## What's at the sauce bar and side dish station

You can't have shabu-shabu without sauce, and J's Pot has a dedicated sauce bar where you can mix your own exactly how you like it!

![Overview of the sauce bar at J's Pot Magok Branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/jspot-magok-solo-katsuo-broth-shabu/jspot-magok-solo-katsuo-broth-shabu-10-sf5n3-900.webp)

From sugar, salt, fish sauce, oyster sauce, sweet chili, and sriracha, to black vinegar, chili oil, and scallion oil — the variety was pretty impressive.

You can add soy sauce, chopped scallions, garlic, and onion to build a sauce to your own taste. There were even recipe guides posted in front of the sauce bar for a basic sauce, peanut sauce, and spicy chili sauce, so if you're not sure what ratio to use, you can just follow along.

For side dishes, there was kimchi and pickles you could help yourself to as needed. The tangy pickles were refreshing between bites, and the kimchi paired really well with the hot broth.

## Katsuobushi broth with bean sprouts, fried tofu and flat glass noodles

The bonito broth at J's Pot Magok Branch wasn't overpoweringly fishy — just a subtle, savory depth.

It starts off clean and light, but as you add vegetables and meat one by one, the flavors build and the broth gets richer and richer!

![Shabu-shabu broth grown richer after adding ingredients](https://img.superchart.com/images/jspot-magok-solo-katsuo-broth-shabu/jspot-magok-solo-katsuo-broth-shabu-15-7jvym-900.webp)

The basic vegetable set came with napa cabbage, bok choy, shiitake mushrooms, wood ear mushrooms, and several other kinds of mushrooms and greens, which I cooked one at a time.

I love bean sprouts, so I added them separately, and their crunchy texture paired really well with the shabu-shabu. Cooked just briefly in the broth, they kept their crunch and I kept reaching for more, haha.

Adding fried tofu was a great call too! Biting into a piece soaked in broth, you could really taste the bonito flavor, haha.

As the vegetables and mushrooms cooked, a natural sweetness built up in the broth, giving it a completely different flavor from that first taste.

![Plate of thinly sliced shabu-shabu meat](https://img.superchart.com/images/jspot-magok-solo-katsuo-broth-shabu/jspot-magok-solo-katsuo-broth-shabu-20-lzsm2-900.webp)

The meat came thinly sliced, perfect for a quick cook, and it paired nicely with the vegetables and sauces when dipped.

I also cooked up the fish balls — they had a fun, bouncy texture that made for a nice change of pace, haha.

![Flat glass noodles added at the end](https://img.superchart.com/images/jspot-magok-solo-katsuo-broth-shabu/jspot-magok-solo-katsuo-broth-shabu-24-aetvc-900.webp)

At the very end, I added the flat glass noodles I'd picked out. After everything else had simmered, the meat and vegetable flavors had fully soaked into the broth, and it paired beautifully with the chewy noodles!

## Final thoughts on solo shabu-shabu at J's Pot Magok

J's Pot Magok Branch let me build everything — broth, vegetables, extra ingredients, even the noodles — exactly to my own taste, which made it a great pick whenever I want a shabu-shabu with a twist. Using an individual pot meant I didn't have to worry about matching broth preferences with whoever I was with, haha. If you're looking for a restaurant near COEX Magok where solo dining works well, or a good spot for warm shabu-shabu, why not stop by J's Pot Magok Branch and build your own pot exactly how you like it?
