Whenever I head out toward Gijang's Oshiria area, deciding what to eat is oddly stressful. After walking around the Lotte Outlet, Lotte World Busan, and Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, sometimes I want something more than a quick bite — a proper Korean meal I can slowly enjoy with my parents. This time I went to Kkomak Hansang Gijang Main Branch (꼬막한상 기장본점).

Their signature dish is cockle bibimbap, but this time I tried the dried corvina (boribulgul) set instead. One whole dried corvina came out per person, along with a whole array of handmade side dishes — it really felt like a full hanjeongsik (Korean set-course meal) spread, and a solid Gijang restaurant pick.

Kkomak Hansang Gijang Main Branch sits close to the Oshiria tourist district in Gijang. You can practically see Lotte Premium Outlets Dongbusan from right outside the restaurant, so it's convenient for a meal before or after shopping, and it's also an easy stop alongside Lotte World Busan, Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, or the Songjeong area.

So it's a good place to keep in mind if you're looking for a Korean restaurant near the Dongbusan Lotte Outlet or Haedong Yonggungsa Temple. The big Kkomak Hansang sign out front made it fairly easy to find even on a first visit. Basement parking is available, and the store signage notes 2 hours of free parking, which made driving there convenient too.

## A spacious, tidy dining room with wide picture windows

Once inside, the space was bigger than I expected.

Wood-toned tables and calm-colored chairs fill the space, with enough room between seats that it never feels cramped — overall a clean, comfortable atmosphere. One whole side is a large picture window that lets in natural light, and sitting by the window I could see out over the Oshiria area, so there was no closed-in feeling while eating.

The tables are also arranged well for larger groups, so this place would suit anyone looking for a spot for a parents' meal, family meal, or family outing in Gijang. When taking your parents out to eat, you end up thinking not just about the food but also parking, seating, and atmosphere — and this place handled all of that comfortably.

## Bori gulbi set at 27,000 won per person, ordered for two

The dish I tried was the dried corvina (boribulgul) set.

It's priced at ₩27,000 per person, and since we ordered for two, we got two whole dried corvina, one each. It's not just the main fish that arrives — the table fills up with side dishes too. The restaurant serves a 12-dish handmade side spread, which made this feel much more like a full hanjeongsik table than a typical grilled-fish set with just one or two side dishes.

Once the table was fully set and I looked down at it, the two dried corvina sat at the center with side dishes packed tightly around them — quite an impressive spread just to look at.

### One whole bori gulbi per person

The main dish, dried corvina, comes out as one whole fish on a long plate. It's grilled to a golden brown, topped with sesame seeds, and neatly plated over perilla leaves. What I liked most was that, with two of us, we didn't have to split one fish — each person gets their own whole one.

Picking apart the flesh, it had a salty, savory flavor that goes well with rice, and it also worked well just placed on top of a spoonful of rice. If you're visiting with parents who like dried corvina, the main dish alone is such a sure bet that it seems like a solid choice for a parents' meal in Gijang.

## What the 12 handmade side dishes were like

What I especially liked that day was the side dish lineup. There was everything from familiar staples like salad, kimchi, seasoned greens, pickles, mukcheorim (starch jelly), and pan-fried jeon, to cockle-based dishes and spicy seasoned dishes.

There were warm dishes like golden pan-fried jeon and cooked eggplant, plus spicy or tangy side dishes, so the flavors never leaned too heavily on the dried corvina alone.

True to the name Kkomak Hansang (cockle set), the cockle-based side dishes stood out too. The soy-based seasoned cockles were salty and full of savory depth, while the spicy cockle dish tossed with vegetables gave the whole spread a nice kick. Picking through one side dish after another, a whole bowl of rice disappeared in no time.

The table also had instructions for how to best enjoy the dried corvina. You can't talk about dried corvina without mentioning the classic combo of rice soaked in green tea water. I soaked a bit of rice in the green tea water served separately, then topped it with a piece of well-picked dried corvina.

Personally, this combination was the most delicious part of the meal. After the salty, savory flavor of the dried corvina, the cool, subtle green tea water made my mouth feel refreshingly clean.

Especially after eating fish and side dishes for a while, alternating with rice soaked in green tea water kept things from feeling heavy, and it went down easily. The whole rhythm of dried corvina → rice → green tea water was one of the fun parts of this meal.

## Worth it for a family meal near Osiria?

There are plenty of cafés and Western restaurants around Gijang's Oshiria area, but on days out with parents, what I end up craving is a proper Korean meal with rice and a full spread of side dishes.

Kkomak Hansang Gijang Main Branch brought together a main of dried corvina with a full 12-dish side spread, a wide and comfortable dining room, and a location close to the main Oshiria attractions. It's a convenient stop before or after shopping at Lotte Premium Outlets Dongbusan, and just as easy to reach after visiting Lotte World Busan or Haedong Yonggungsa Temple.

If you like sampling a little of many side dishes, or you're looking for a hanjeongsik spot in Gijang, Korean food near Oshiria, or a family outing spot in Gijang, the dried corvina set is worth checking out. It's the kind of meal I'll probably think of again the next time I take my parents out to Gijang.
