## In short

Palkkongi is a day-use camping restaurant near Palgongsan in Gunwi, Daegu, where guests grill charcoal barbecue inside a tent with no gear of their own. A family of three visited on an early September evening for the third session, ate meat and ramyeon, then used the kids' play area and set off fireworks the owner handed out, paying 136,000 won in total. At Palkkongi the meal was good, but the time spent playing together is what lasted longest.

We went with nothing but ourselves and grilled meat over charcoal in a tent. This is a record of our evening visit to a camping restaurant near Palgongsan in Daegu with my family of three in early September. I'll walk you through everything from parking to the actual bill.

## Why we chose a camping restaurant over a regular BBQ place

There are so many good restaurants near Palgongsan that we were first looking at steak houses or regular BBQ spots. But if all you do is eat, the memory fades within days. Since we were already heading out, we figured we'd choose somewhere more memorable, and turned toward a camping restaurant as an offbeat date idea near Daegu.

In the end, it was the right call. The moments we spent playing lingered longer than the meal itself. We booked a table for the third evening session, 'meokping' for three, and the space was so clean and pretty it worked perfectly as an offbeat date spot near Daegu too.

### Where to park at Palkkongi: drive past the entrance

At first we parked near the sign by the main road, hesitating over whether we could drive further in — that slope near the entrance is quite steep.

![Palkkongi's inner parking line](https://img.superchart.com/images/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining-07-saikx-900.webp)

We went back in to check and parked in Palkkongi's inner parking line. If you're heading to this Palgongsan camping restaurant in Daegu, drive all the way in from the start. On the way, head toward Gunwi, pass through the Palgong Tunnel, then turn right just after and follow the signs in.

## How does a camping restaurant session work?

- Step 1: Book ahead and get instructions on arrival
- Step 2: Pick out meat and food yourself at the store
- Step 3: Head to your assigned tent and grill over charcoal

![Choosing food at the store, step of the process](https://img.superchart.com/images/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining-08-z2iit-900.webp)

![Heading to the assigned tent](https://img.superchart.com/images/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining-11-1dpek-900.webp)

![The tent space set up for charcoal grilling](https://img.superchart.com/images/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining-12-axfe6-900.webp)

This isn't a campground you stay overnight at — it's a same-day restaurant. Everything's already set up inside the tent: table, chairs, charcoal, grill, disposable dishes, so there's no gear to bring. You can't bring outside food; everything is bought at the store.

You grab a burner and pot from the self-service corner to cook your own ramyeon (instant noodles). Fill up water from the water cooler or bring your own bottles :)

## Free-refill vegetable self-bar and board games

![Unlimited lettuce wraps at the self-bar](https://img.superchart.com/images/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining-13-dnid5-900.webp)

![Shredded scallions and pickled radish at the self-bar](https://img.superchart.com/images/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining-14-3gu1y-900.webp)

![Kimchi and ssamjang at the self-bar](https://img.superchart.com/images/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining-15-1kvku-900.webp)

![The vegetable self-service corner at the store](https://img.superchart.com/images/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining-16-jeli3-900.webp)

At the self-bar on one side of the store, you can take unlimited lettuce wraps, shredded scallions, pickled radish, kimchi, and ssamjang (dipping paste). You know that awkward moment at a BBQ place when you want to ask for more veggies but hesitate? Here, if you run short, you just go grab more yourself, so that never happens.

![Board games available to borrow for free](https://img.superchart.com/images/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining-17-1nxs8-900.webp)

They also lend out board games for free.

## What a family of three actually paid at Palkkongi

![Actual bill for meokping for three](https://img.superchart.com/images/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining-18-1hh3e-900.webp)

- Meokping seat for 3: ₩60,000
- Store food total: ₩76,000
- Total paid: ₩136,000

As an offbeat date idea near Daegu, that's about ₩45,000 per person. Meat runs ₩8,000 to over ₩10,000 per 100g, which wasn't far off from what we expected to pay per serving at a regular BBQ place. Since the tent fee is added on, the food cost alone comes out a bit higher, but once you factor in the seating plus the play space, it makes sense. Worth every won — honestly, this place healed our souls!

## The right order for grilling the meat

The first sear happens outdoors over strong charcoal heat, quickly searing just the surface for that smoky char. You finish it off on the grill inside the tent.

![Ramyeon with scallions and cheongyang chili added](https://img.superchart.com/images/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining-21-fc0bu-900.webp)

Cutting the meat with scissors as you grill means less smoke in your face and less chance of burning it. Save the leftover scallions and cheongyang chili peppers to toss into the ramyeon at the very end — it completely changes the broth. This is exactly what makes the trip to this Palgongsan camping restaurant worth it.

## The kids' play area at Palkkongi

![Kids enjoying the play area](https://img.superchart.com/images/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining-22-19a7h-900.webp)

![The sand pit and play equipment](https://img.superchart.com/images/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining-23-1yv5g-900.webp)

With a sand pit, trampoline, ring toss, and a spinning swing, there's plenty to do, so it works well as an offbeat date near Daegu with no dull moments. Everyone worries about kids getting bored halfway through a meal out, but here the play area is right next to where you eat! It's a rare combination among Palgongsan camping restaurants in Daegu.

## Fireworks handed out by the owner

![The family enjoying fireworks together](https://img.superchart.com/images/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining/gunwi-palgongsan-camping-dining-24-1qgu2-900.webp)

This is the moment that stuck with us most from this Palgongsan camping restaurant in Daegu. The owner brought out fireworks for us, unprompted. Thanks to that, we spent a good while drawing hearts in the air together as a family. The fact that they offered it without us even asking felt genuinely thoughtful. It's the kind of scene that wouldn't have happened if we'd just come to eat.

## What to know before visiting Palkkongi

- Even in early September, evenings get chilly. Once the sun sets, the temperature drops fast — bring a jacket.
- Checkout is quick. No dishwashing needed — just sort your trash and drop it at the return counter, done in 5 minutes.
- The third session is the one to book. Once the string lights come on, the mood is completely different from daytime. If you're coming for an offbeat date near Daegu, pick this time slot.
- Open year-round regardless of season — the tents have heaters and A/C, so it's fine even on rainy days.

This Palgongsan camping restaurant in Daegu is the answer when you want the feel of camping without any of the gear. For ₩136,000 as a family of three, we had meat, ramyeon, and fireworks on top. Park in the inner lane, sear outside and finish inside, bring a jacket, and if it's an offbeat date near Daegu, go for the third session. Remember just that, and you won't regret it as a family trip either :)
