## In short

Donggok Jemyeon Daegu Dongseong-ro Main Branch is a Korean restaurant serving house-made kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) near 228 Park on Gukchaebosang-ro in Jung-gu, Daegu. On a weekday evening, two diners ordered the seafood chive pancake set (for two, one kalguksu included) at 37,000 won plus Donggok makgeolli (rice wine) at 5,000 won, sharing a beef bone-broth kalguksu and a yukgaejang (spicy beef soup) kalguksu. The portions at Donggok Jemyeon were generous enough for three, and parking support is available at the nearby Dongseong-ro parking lot.

You've probably looked for a Dongseong-ro place near 228 Park that's easy to go to for lunch or dinner. I heard the noodles here were great because they're handmade in-house, so I went to check out

Donggok Jemyeon Daegu Dongseong-ro Main Branch

We visited on a weekday evening, just the two of us, and it turned out to be a Korean restaurant you could comfortably go to for lunch or dinner.

The sign is huge so it caught my eye from far away, even from the Gukchaebosang-ro side. In front of the entrance there's a stand for the hanwoo (Korean beef) bone-broth kalguksu and the summer-only seasonal specialty menu, so you can browse what to order before you even walk in

## Inside Donggok Jemyeon: atmosphere and tablet ordering

Inside, Donggok Jemyeon has a cozy vibe with wood finishes and soft lighting, and each table has a tablet order pad so you can order right away without calling a server.

Framed write-ups about the homemade noodle process and the hanwoo bone broth story are hung all over the walls, so it was fun to read them while waiting

Each table has a tablet order pad, so you can order without needing to call a server separately

## What are Donggok Jemyeon's house-made kalguksu noodles like?

True to its name, Donggok Jemyeon makes fresh noodles in-house every day. What stood out was that they're made with just flour, water, and salt — no additives — and they don't get soggy even sitting in broth for a while

They actually keep the noodles made that day in the fridge with date labels attached, so you can see the freshness with your own eyes. Tasting them, the noodles were so chewy that I understood why they make a point of calling it homemade

## Donggok Jemyeon menu and prices: what two people ordered

Donggok Jemyeon has a wide range of kalguksu dishes: hanwoo bone-broth kalguksu for ₩11,000, yukgaejang kalguksu for ₩12,000, gabrisu & banjeonsi for ₩10,900, and more. The two of us ordered the seafood chive pancake set (for 2, includes one kalguksu choice) for ₩37,000, plus Donggok makgeolli for ₩5,000.

It said that during the chobok, jungbok, and malbok summer dog days, they also serve a super-concentrated samgye (whole chicken) kalguksu for ₩13,000

![Chilled yogurt set on one side of the table](https://img.superchart.com/images/dongok-jemyeon-dongseongno-makgeolli-dinner/dongok-jemyeon-dongseongno-makgeolli-dinner-11-sqcw8-966.webp)

On one side of the table there was chilled yogurt, ready to drink once the meal was finished

## The full table at Donggok Jemyeon

A big plate of seafood chive pancake, two bowls of bone-broth and yukgaejang kalguksu, plus makgeolli — the table was completely full. Even though it's a set for two, the portions were so generous the whole table felt packed

### Seafood chive pancake (haemul buchujeon)

![Seafood chive pancake topped with shrimp and squid](https://img.superchart.com/images/dongok-jemyeon-dongseongno-makgeolli-dinner/dongok-jemyeon-dongseongno-makgeolli-dinner-14-1t781-966.webp)

![Piece of seafood chive pancake cut with scissors](https://img.superchart.com/images/dongok-jemyeon-dongseongno-makgeolli-dinner/dongok-jemyeon-dongseongno-makgeolli-dinner-15-fiteq-966.webp)

It was a chive pancake generously topped with shrimp and squid. Scissors and tongs came with it so we could cut it easily, and with the chive aroma still vivid and the seafood packed in generously, it was plenty for two people

### Beef bone-broth kalguksu vs. yukgaejang kalguksu

![Hanwoo bone-broth kalguksu topped generously with green onion and chives](https://img.superchart.com/images/dongok-jemyeon-dongseongno-makgeolli-dinner/dongok-jemyeon-dongseongno-makgeolli-dinner-16-8q423-966.webp)

![Yukgaejang kalguksu loaded with meat and green onion](https://img.superchart.com/images/dongok-jemyeon-dongseongno-makgeolli-dinner/dongok-jemyeon-dongseongno-makgeolli-dinner-17-1gryq-966.webp)

The bone-broth kalguksu that comes standard with the set had a milky broth that was rich yet clean, topped generously with green onion and chives. The one we swapped for yukgaejang kalguksu was spicy and packed with ingredients like meat and green onion, perfect for when you're craving a fiery broth

![Noodles and meat lifted up together with chopsticks](https://img.superchart.com/images/dongok-jemyeon-dongseongno-makgeolli-dinner/dongok-jemyeon-dongseongno-makgeolli-dinner-18-1ud4z-966.webp)

Lifting the noodles with chopsticks, meat came up naturally along with them — that's how loaded with toppings it was. Both bowls kept that chewy texture from the homemade noodles all the way to the end

## Side dishes, Donggok makgeolli and the free yogurt drink

Donggok Jemyeon's side dishes were kimchi and seasoned chili pepper, and the Donggok makgeolli was served in dedicated bowls to pour and drink from.

![Kimchi and seasoned chili pepper side dishes](https://img.superchart.com/images/dongok-jemyeon-dongseongno-makgeolli-dinner/dongok-jemyeon-dongseongno-makgeolli-dinner-19-s0xmj-966.webp)

![Donggok makgeolli poured into a dedicated bowl](https://img.superchart.com/images/dongok-jemyeon-dongseongno-makgeolli-dinner/dongok-jemyeon-dongseongno-makgeolli-dinner-20-1yhxx-966.webp)

![Yogurt served to finish the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/dongok-jemyeon-dongseongno-makgeolli-dinner/dongok-jemyeon-dongseongno-makgeolli-dinner-21-mg1rx-966.webp)

The side dishes were kimchi and seasoned chili pepper, both mild and clean-tasting, so they went well as bites between the pancake and the kalguksu. Drinking the Donggok makgeolli from its dedicated bowl added to the atmosphere, and toward the end of the meal they gave us each a yogurt, which was a nice clean way to finish

## Is Donggok Jemyeon in Dongseong-ro worth it? Final verdict

To sum up, if you want to properly try homemade-noodle kalguksu among Dongseong-ro, Daegu restaurants, I'd recommend Donggok Jemyeon Daegu Dongseong-ro Main Branch. The staff were kind, the order pad was convenient, and above all the portions were so generous that even though there were just two of us, it would've easily fed three
