I had only planned to take the walnut pastries to go, but I tried an Americano too, you know? They say they use beans roasted in-house, and the coffee really did taste especially good!! The walnut pastries themselves were nutty rather than overly sweet, so they went amazingly well with a strong Americano. A sweet dessert and a cup of coffee really are a combination that never fails, haha. The pastries are carefully wrapped in hanji (traditional Korean paper) and covered with bojagi (traditional Korean wrapping cloth)! When I received them, they were much more luxurious and pretty than I had expected, so I was really pleased!! Since they are carefully wrapped in bojagi cloth, they would be great not just as a snack but as a Gyeongju souvenir, a gift for parents, or a gift set for someone you know. Especially around a time when you need to prepare gifts, like Chuseok, a traditional dessert gift set like this could be a nice alternative to the usual gifts!!! It would also suit anyone looking for a Gyeongju Chuseok gift to share with family or friends after a trip. Buja Hodu's walnut pastries are made with rice dough, low-sugar bean paste, and whole walnuts!!! Whole walnuts, haha. As soon as I took a bite, they felt a little different from the usual walnut pastries I had imagined. The rice dough on the outside was crisp, while the inside was soft and mild. With moderately sweet bean paste and whole walnuts inside, the texture was great too!! When you bite into the whole walnut, its nutty flavor really comes through, and this combination was seriously delicious.
