I love makchang so much that I often eat it almost like a side dish. So this time, I went with my daughter to Daraewon Makchang (다래원막창), a popular spot in Seo-gu, Daegu, for some delicious makchang~

## Daraewon Makchang right at opening time

Daraewon Makchang is in Seo-gu, Daegu, and it opens from 4:30 PM. We happened to be planning an early dinner, so we arrived a little early right at opening time. It was actually nice to be able to eat more leisurely than during the usual dinner rush.

The front of the restaurant is decorated with the feel of a pocha (Korean street-tent bar), which gave it a cozy atmosphere. Further inside, there are tables in the building. The restaurant was larger than I expected, and it was kept clean overall, making it comfortable for a meal.

If you like a pocha atmosphere, the front seats would be fun; if you want to sit and eat a little more comfortably, the tables inside would be a good choice.

It was a good size for a family meal, and certainly spacious enough for company dinners or group gatherings. Of course, it would also make a nice date spot for chatting over tasty makchang, right?

## Two portions of makchang and thick fresh pork belly

We ordered two portions of makchang, one portion of pork belly, soybean paste stew, and a bowl of rice.

At Daraewon Makchang, one serving of makchang is 160g. These days, portions at barbecue restaurants can feel smaller than expected, so you often end up ordering more, but two servings here looked like quite a lot.

For someone like me who loves makchang, the quantity passed first! Haha. We put the makchang on the grill and cooked it until nicely browned, and its signature chewy texture and savory flavor really came through. I eat makchang often because I like it so much, and it was delicious as always that day.

And because makchang alone felt a little incomplete, we ordered pork belly too! Daraewon Makchang's pork belly comes in 130g servings, which I heard is more generous than at typical places. Above all, I liked that it was thick-cut fresh pork belly.

Once the thick pork belly was grilled until golden, the outside became crisp while the juices stayed inside. With both makchang and pork belly, my daughter and I ended up doing a proper mukbang from early dinner onward.

## Finishing with soybean paste stew and rice

When you're eating meat, you can't leave out soybean paste stew.

After filling up on makchang and pork belly, adding soybean paste stew and a bowl of rice made for a hearty meal. When you take a spoonful of warm soybean paste stew after meat, I guess Koreans just can't help themselves. I found room for more rice, haha.

Daraewon Makchang was also running a review event. They said you can receive red bean shaved ice or steamed egg if you write a review.

If you've come by and enjoyed a tasty meal anyway, it's worth making the most of the review event, right? You could enjoy steamed egg with your meat like we did, or finish sweetly with red bean shaved ice after the meal.

## If you're looking for makchang in Seo-gu, Daegu

After visiting this time, I thought Daraewon Makchang was a place makchang lovers should try at least once. The portions are generous at 160g of makchang and 130g of pork belly, and I liked being able to enjoy both thick fresh pork belly and chewy makchang.

It opens from 4:30 PM, so it is also a good option for anyone who wants an early dinner like us. With a spacious, clean dining room and front seats with a pocha feel, you can choose the atmosphere too. It was a day of eating lots of delicious meat with my makchang-loving daughter for the first time in a while.

Make sure you gather your things properly when heading home, haha.

On a day when you're craving makchang or want a generous meat meal, I think it would be nice to stop by Daraewon Makchang in Seo-gu, Daegu~ Next time, I'm planning to try some of the other menu items too.
