Anjirang in Daegu is famous for its gopchang alley!!! :) I’d been craving gopchang (grilled intestines) for a while, so I headed to Daegu’s Anjirang Gopchang Alley, a nationwide mecca for gopchang.

There are so many gopchang places here that I wondered where to go, then asked a local resident and ended up at Gopchang119 Anjirang Branch! The owner cooks it for you here, so even people who aren’t confident about grilling meat can go with confidence.

It had that distinctive gopchang-restaurant atmosphere, but the interior was cleaner than I expected.

## We ordered a little bit of everything

Here’s the menu. Rather than having just one dish this time, we wanted to try a little bit of everything, so we ordered several items.

![Menu information at Gopchang119 Anjirang Branch](https://img.superchart.com/images/daegu-anjirang-gopchang-cheese-rice/daegu-anjirang-gopchang-cheese-rice-03-ilq2m-966.webp)

We ordered one serving each of vegetable gopchang, salt-grilled makchang (pork rectum), salt-grilled chicken neck meat, and snow cheese fried rice. We got to sample the vegetable gopchang, salt-grilled makchang, and chicken neck meat at Gopchang119, and every menu item had a different flavor and texture, which made trying them one by one fun.

> First of all, every single dish was distinctively delicious.

### Side dishes

They brought out refreshing bean sprout soup, Cheongyang chili peppers, minced garlic, perilla leaves, pickled radish wraps, and a house special sauce.

## How did we eat the salt-grilled makchang?

The first thing out was the salt-grilled makchang I’d been looking forward to! Its clean, simple flavor came through right away. Since it was seasoned with salt, it was great for tasting the nutty richness of the makchang itself. Above all, the texture was seriously chewy. With each bite, the outside had a slight springiness while the inside was satisfyingly chewy!

![Chewy salt-grilled makchang](https://img.superchart.com/images/daegu-anjirang-gopchang-cheese-rice/daegu-anjirang-gopchang-cheese-rice-08-12gbp-900.webp)

There was a recommended way to eat it, so I gave it a try.

- Place pickled radish wrap on a perilla leaf.
- Add gopchang dipped in the special sauce, then add pickled garlic and mayonnaise sauce.

Putting the wrap in my mouth in one bite was seriously delicious. It was definitely the best way to eat it.

> The flavors are so vibrant!!!

The more I ate, the more its nutty richness came through, so I enjoyed it a lot. Eating it without a strong seasoning made the makchang’s savory flavor stand out even more. Ordering it with something heavily seasoned like vegetable gopchang was also a nice combination, since you could alternate between totally different flavors.

## Glass noodles and vegetables in spicy vegetable gopchang

The vegetable gopchang I’d also been looking forward to! The red seasoning coated the gopchang and vegetables evenly, and just looking at it made my mouth water.

The sauce clung tightly to the gopchang! As soon as I picked up a piece, I could really taste the seasoning. It was a little spicy with lots of savory depth, delicious on its own and also a great match with perilla leaves or pickled radish wraps.

The vegetable gopchang contained not only gopchang but also glass noodles and crisp vegetables, so it was fun picking out different bites. The glass noodles especially soaked up the sauce so well that my chopsticks kept drifting back to them haha.

![Gopchang with crisp vegetables](https://img.superchart.com/images/daegu-anjirang-gopchang-cheese-rice/daegu-anjirang-gopchang-cheese-rice-16-1sgru-900.webp)

The gopchang wasn’t tough; it chewed softly while keeping its characteristic nutty flavor. The onions, cabbage, scallions, and other vegetables were cooked just enough rather than going limp, so they retained a crisp texture. I loved getting both the chewiness of the gopchang and the crunch of the vegetables. It had a totally different appeal from the grilled dishes you usually think of at an Anjirang gopchang favorite~~

## Salt-grilled chicken neck meat, perfect between dishes

We tried the salt-grilled chicken neck meat because my friend suggested ordering it!!! Oh, I’m so glad we did. There was a bed of onions underneath. Chicken neck meat is a special cut, so its texture is a little different from ordinary chicken: chewy, yet juicy. Because it was salt-grilled, it wasn’t overly seasoned and had a clean flavor that was great between bites of vegetable gopchang. The meat was especially moist, not dry at all!!! They grill it so well~~~

![Moistly grilled chicken neck meat](https://img.superchart.com/images/daegu-anjirang-gopchang-cheese-rice/daegu-anjirang-gopchang-cheese-rice-18-ddxjo-900.webp)

If you keep eating only gopchang or makchang, the flavor can start to feel a little intense, but having chicken neck meat now and then refreshed the palate! If it feels like a shame to eat only gopchang at an Anjirang gopchang spot, chicken neck meat is worth ordering too.

## Finishing with snow cheese fried rice

Of course, fried rice had to be the last course haha. This time we ordered snow cheese fried rice. They melted the cheese with a torch right at the table, and the visual was amazing.. It was fun to watch, too. I was clearly full, yet it instantly made my mouth water. As the cheese slowly melted over the hot fried rice, a nutty aroma rose up—it was a visual I simply couldn’t pass up... The rice had a nutty, salty-savory flavor, and the melted cheese made it taste soft and rich.

They made the fried rice in the vegetable gopchang pan. A little of the spicy seasoning remained, but the cheese softened it beautifully. The nutty fried rice and the thick, salty richness of the cheese came through together, so I kept eating.

Even though I was already fairly full, fried rice somehow still went down haha. I guess fried rice really is the ultimate way to finish a meal at a Daegu gopchang restaurant.

## Overall thoughts

> First of all, every dish was sooooo distinctively delicious.

The vegetable gopchang had a lovely combination of spicy seasoning, gopchang, glass noodles, and vegetables, while the salt-grilled makchang stood out for its chewy, nutty flavor. The chicken neck meat was clean-tasting with a nice chew, and finishing with snow cheese fried rice made it feel like a truly satisfying meal! If you’re looking for an Anjirang gopchang spot, it could be fun to order a variety of dishes and find the ones that suit your taste.

I liked that the owner cooked everything and brought it out personally. We could eat as soon as the food arrived, without worrying about when to grill it, so it was easy to relax and talk while eating. A place to visit when you’re deciding which gopchang dish to have in Anjirang Gopchang Alley! This was Gopchang119 Anjirang Branch :)
