A few years ago I had shellfish grilled here with friends and it was so good — this time I came back to Nampo in Dongseongno for fresh raw shrimp!!

It was raining so we couldn't sit at the outdoor tables and went inside instead. Parking spots were thankfully plentiful.

### Inside the restaurant and the 9 free services

The restrooms are separated by gender and kept clean inside the building. Nine free services posted on the wall! We used the free wifi!! When it gets colder, the blankets would probably come in handy.

The exact seat we sat at during that group gathering was still there — so nostalgic!!! I remember eating the shellfish grill that day and thinking I had to come back, and here I finally am!!!

## Even the complimentary setting had pork cutlet and vegetable seafood kalguksu

The complimentary setting came with cold ice water, corn macaroni, and pork cutlet. I honestly didn't expect much from a side-dish pork cutlet, but the meat was fairly thick and the sauce was better than basic?!

Is this actually a shabu-shabu kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) place? A basket piled high with vegetables, fish cake skewers, clams, kalguksu noodles, and broth — all came as the basic setting. Whoa.

We put the pot on the burner, dumped everything in, and let it simmer. Vegetable seafood kalguksu I never expected on a rainy day!!!! I took one spoonful of the broth and thought, this is dangerously good!!!! and kept spooning more..

## The main event: raw shrimp still twitching

Bring on the raw shrimp!!!!

The raw shrimp has arrived, your honor.

The main dish we'd been waiting for — raw shrimp — laid out fairly neatly on ice... even with the body shells peeled off, they were still twitching. Freshness itself.

### Separating the shrimp heads yourself, for frying

The staff said if we separated the shrimp heads ourselves, they'd fry them for us — so it was up to us to do the prep.

But... the friend I came with took one look at the moving shrimp and completely refused -_-ㅎ So I ended up putting on hygiene gloves and taking it on myself. Separating the heads from the bodies, I could feel right through my fingertips how springy and firm the shrimp meat was.

I handed the separated heads to the staff, and dipped the prepped bodies briefly in ice water to make them even cooler and springier before eating.

### What sauce goes best with raw shrimp?

I dipped the springy shrimp into wasabi soy sauce, which I think pairs best with raw shrimp, and ate it happily.

Dipping into the spicy sauce they set aside separately was also a delicacy, and the combination of chojang (vinegar-chili sauce) plus wasabi soy sauce was excellent too.

Squeezed a lemon slice and sprinkled it over the shrimp. The lemon's tartness went so well with the raw shrimp,

and eating it along with the sharp wasabi and radish sprouts, it just kept going in endlessly.. Not-enough-shrimp syndrome occurred!!!!

The fried shrimp heads I'd processed myself.. dipped in the sauce provided alongside and took a bite — crunch! and that nutty flavor, what is this~~ I should stop eating.. but kept going anyway ㅜㅜㅜ hand, please stop~~~~

## Kalguksu, the service seafood ramyeon, and ice cream

We boiled the complimentary vegetable seafood kalguksu until it bubbled away. The broth was refreshing and clean, and it filled us right up.

The seafood ramyeon we got as a service item from participating in the Naver notification event!!! Even though it was free, it had plump shrimp and clams inside, so the broth was just as deep and spicy as the kalguksu.

After we finished eating, they even brought out a cup of soft-serve ice cream for dessert.. Rich and sweet, it properly wrapped up the meal.

## Wrap-up

It had been years since my last visit, but thanks to the great taste, the cozy atmosphere, and excellent service, I think I'll be back again soon. Nampo, right in the heart of Gyodong and Dongseongno in Daegu! NAMPO! If you're coming to Gyodong or Dongseongno for a date or a gathering, be sure to stop by. This is a place where you can properly enjoy fresh shellfish grill and springy raw shrimp — I highly, highly recommend it!
