## In short

Taegyeongok is a Seoul-style bulgogi restaurant in Dongin-dong, Daegu, right next to Gyeongbuk National University Hospital. Three of us shared the large Seoul-style bulgogi at 36,000 won, the hanwoo 1++ bulgogi salad at 18,000 won and the hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef rice bowl) at 13,000 won, then finished with pear sorbet. The bulgogi was tender with a gentle sweetness, but the details at Taegyeongok — hovenia tea water, beef soup and that closing pear sorbet — are what stayed with me.

## Where is Taegyeongok, and what is the restaurant like?

Taegyeongok, a well-known spot in Dongin-dong, Daegu, sits right next to Gyeongbuk National University Hospital. Maybe because it hasn't been open long, the whole interior felt really clean.

![Exterior of Taegyeongok in Dongin-dong, Daegu](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi-01-16rt5-900.webp)

![Clean interior seating area at Taegyeongok](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi-02-16j8t-900.webp)

![Tidy dining hall interior at Taegyeongok](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi-03-1nhxa-966.webp)

Usually when you go for bulgogi or grilled meat, you picture a fairly typical barbecue restaurant vibe, but Taegyeongok felt more modern and put-together than that.

![Wood-toned ceiling and soft lighting inside Taegyeongok](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi-04-4a3e5-900.webp)

The wood-toned ceiling and soft lighting blended with plants and Asian-style decor scattered around, so the space felt comfortable the whole time we ate. The big speaker on the wall caught my eye too — if you're into music, you'd probably enjoy noticing details like that.

## The hovenia tea water served the moment you sit down

At Taegyeongok, once you sit down they bring water along with the basic table setting. And this water was way tastier than I expected.

![Table setting and hutgae tree tea water at Taegyeongok](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi-05-14kcn-900.webp)

So I asked what kind of water it was, and turns out it's made with hutgae tree (Hovenia dulcis) tea. I'm the type who forms a lot of my impression of a restaurant from small details like this, so thinking 'this is a place that cares even about the water' gave me a great first impression.

![Radish kimchi side dish at Taegyeongok](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi-06-12k0j-900.webp)

![Jangjorim braised beef side dish at Taegyeongok](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi-07-qtfdz-900.webp)

![Seasoned namul vegetable side dish at Taegyeongok](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi-08-1k8qx-900.webp)

The side dishes were radish kimchi, jangjorim (braised beef in soy sauce), and seasoned namul (vegetables). Nothing flashy, but a clean, good way to start the meal.

## Seoul-style bulgogi, large, 36,000 won: tender beef and plenty of vegetables

Our first order was the large Seoul-style bulgogi at ₩36,000. At Taegyeongok, which specializes in Seoul-style bulgogi in Dongin-dong, the bulgogi and vegetables come together in a big brass-toned hot pot, with a huge pile of bean sprouts on top that made it look really generous.

![Large Seoul-style bulgogi table setting at Taegyeongok](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi-09-4fqwu-900.webp)

![Seoul-style bulgogi and bean sprouts in a brass-toned hot pot](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi-10-15cnh-1200.webp)

The bulgogi felt a bit different from the punchy, strongly seasoned bulgogi we're used to in Gyeongsang province. It was slightly sweet with just the right amount of seasoning — a Seoul-style bulgogi that's easy to eat rather than bold. Above all, the meat was so tender. I thought it'd be an easy dish to bring parents to as well.

![Seoul-style bulgogi with napa cabbage and mushrooms](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi-11-1j18h-900.webp)

Eating the napa cabbage, mushrooms, and other vegetables together with the bulgogi gave more variety in texture and made it much easier to eat. That said, if you're ordering several dishes like we did, it's worth thinking about the overall menu balance.

## Hanwoo 1++ bulgogi salad, 18,000 won

Our second order was the hanwoo (Korean beef) 1++ bulgogi salad at ₩18,000. Maybe because it uses hanwoo, the meat was clean and tender with no gamey smell at all.

![Hanwoo 1++ bulgogi salad at Taegyeongok](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi-12-4vt1q-900.webp)

![Hanwoo bulgogi salad with meat and vegetables combined](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi-13-1gms3-966.webp)

You might think of a salad as something light, but with meat mixed in, it was substantial enough to be a full meal. Eating meat and vegetables together kept it from feeling heavy, and it let us enjoy hanwoo in a different way from the bulgogi. Once again, when the meat itself is good, you don't need to layer on a lot of seasoning — the ingredient's own flavor really comes through.

## Hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap, 13,000 won: clean and light

My brother-in-law ordered the hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef mixed rice) at ₩13,000 instead of plain rice. I'm the type who likes to steal a spoonful or two of whatever anyone else ordered, so he gave me a bit to try.

![Bowl of hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap at Taegyeongok](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi-14-1969p-900.webp)

There was nothing fancy on top of the rice — just soy sauce–based yukhoe and vegetables — but the yukhoe was so tender and delicious that I understood why it didn't need to be elaborate.

![Yukhoe bibimbap topped with soy sauce-based raw beef](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi-15-8sit7-900.webp)

It was especially clean, with none of that particular smell you sometimes get from raw beef, so it worked really well as a bibimbap. We ordered a lot of dishes, but I found myself reaching for the yukhoe bibimbap more often than I expected.

## The beef soup at Taegyeongok was the real surprise

If I had to pick the most memorable dish from today's meal at Taegyeongok, I'd say the beef soup that came with everything. At first I was focused on the bulgogi and yukhoe bibimbap, but after one spoonful of the soup I thought, 'Wait, this is really good?'

![Beef soup served alongside the meal at Taegyeongok](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi-16-3f1ub-966.webp)

The broth was clean but had real depth, so after a few bites of the meat dishes, a spoonful of soup felt like it reset my palate.

> I should come back just for the beef soup next time.

My brother-in-law said that after tasting it too, haha. I guess there's a reason Koreans say a good meal is 'strength from rice.' Since it's so close to Gyeongbuk National University Hospital, it'd also be a good spot for anyone who wants a solid meal after a hospital visit.

## Pear sorbet to finish the meal

But we didn't stop there. Lol. I don't know why the three of us end up ordering so much whenever we get together. It's happened so many times it's not even surprising anymore, but today we ate again until we were completely full.

![Pear sorbet dessert at Taegyeongok](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi-17-1yzae-900.webp)

At some point my brother-in-law kept fiddling with the kiosk and ended up ordering something — pear sorbet. It's made by grating pear with honey, apparently. It could have been a bit more frozen, but we couldn't wait and just ate it as it was.

![Bowl of pear sorbet made with pear and honey](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi-18-1wvk2-966.webp)

![Pear sorbet eaten after the meat meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi-19-pc6y0-966.webp)

It was sweet yet refreshing, and paired really well after all the meat. It felt like it cleaned up that heavy, full feeling left over from the meal. I'd definitely order pear sorbet again as a closing dessert after a meat meal. I did notice a fridge full of various drinks, and since none of the three of us can drink, I felt a little regretful about not being able to have a light drink on a day like this, haha.

## Is Taegyeongok worth it for a clean meal in Dongin-dong?

Today's visit to Taegyeongok was a place where you could enjoy Seoul-style bulgogi and hanwoo dishes in a clean, modern space rather than a typical barbecue-restaurant vibe. The Seoul-style bulgogi had a subtle sweetness different from Gyeongsang-style bulgogi, and the meat was tender enough to eat well with the vegetables.

![Table at Taegyeongok after finishing the meal](https://img.superchart.com/images/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi/taegyeongok-daegu-dongin-seoul-bulgogi-20-yhdg6-966.webp)

The hanwoo bulgogi salad and yukhoe bibimbap were both clean enough in the meat itself that we could eat without feeling weighed down. And more than anything, what stayed with me were the hutgae tea at the start, the beef soup, and the pear sorbet at the end.

> This is a place that cares about the start and finish of a meal, not just the food itself.

That's what I thought even after finishing the meal. If you're looking for a clean meal near Dongin-dong or Gyeongbuk National University Hospital, this is worth a visit. Parking at Taegyeongok is right next door, ₩2,000 per hour.
