## In short

Baeksanu Sutbul Wolsong Main Branch is a charcoal-grilled pork galbi restaurant in Wolseong-dong, Dalseo, Daegu. Dining with my parents, we ordered the Baeksanu Real Pork Galbi 1kg (44,000 won) as raw ribs and grilled it ourselves, then added another 500g pre-grilled and wrapped it in the ssamjang the restaurant makes in-house. The knife scoring is so dense that the marinade reaches the center, and with a kids' play corner and a slushie machine, Baeksanu Sutbul suits a family meal out.

I eat a lot of meat, and my parents love it too, so I went looking for a place where we could eat our fill. The first thing that caught my eye as soon as we arrived was the huge pile of firewood stacked out front 🔥 With a name like Baeksanu Sutbul (charcoal fire), the entrance already had that proper charcoal-grill feel. There was so much firewood it practically filled a whole wall haha. Let's go inside.

## What Baeksanu Sutbul Wolsong Main Branch feels like inside: an old market grill house

Inside, Baeksanu Sutbul Wolsong Main Branch feels like a mix of an old market street, a traditional tavern, and a butcher shop. This charcoal grill house on Joam-ro in Dalseo-gu, Daegu, sets that mood the moment you walk in.

> Interior

Eating meat in a place like this really pulls you into it haha. From the wooden chairs to the mud-wall-style tables to the wooden-plank menu boards, they nailed the concept all the way through. On one side, meat and sausages hang in bunches, and you can even see the space where they prep and pre-grill the meat.

The whole interior mixes an old-school butcher shop with a charcoal grill restaurant. The menu is written out one item at a time on wooden boards hung on the wall, and sausages and meat hang in bunches in front of the kitchen. With big cuts of meat hanging whole, the decor is pretty rustic and bold.

## Real Pork Galbi 1kg for 44,000 won: raw ribs or pre-grilled?

> Menu

We ordered the Baeksanu Real Pork Galbi 1kg 🥩 At ₩44,000 for 1kg, we figured we'd start off going big haha. It reminded me of playing a drinking game once where you're not allowed to use English words, and I remember asking the staff for the '차림표' (menu, in old-fashioned Korean) — it's been a while since I've seen that word used, and here it is on the wall, one dish per wooden plank, keeping that old-market concept going.

When you order, you can choose between raw ribs or pre-grilled. For our first round we went with raw ribs, since I wanted to grill it myself and see how it compared to the pre-grilled version haha.

![QR code review event signage](https://img.superchart.com/images/baeksanu-sutbul-wolseong-pork-ribs/baeksanu-sutbul-wolseong-pork-ribs-09-1kfg6-900.webp)

If you write a review via the QR code and show it to staff, you get to choose between a free doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) or 4 pieces of cheese scallops. Can't skip doenjang jjigae when eating meat haha.

The basic side dishes started coming out one by one too. Pickled onions, kimchi, wrap vegetables and sauce — all the things your hand keeps reaching for while eating meat.

You grab what you need from the self bar.

Charcoal has arrived.

## Why the dense knife scoring carries the marinade to the center

Our order of Baeksanu Real Pork Galbi 1kg is here 🥩 They filled the grill right away. And what's in the photo isn't all of it — there's still another whole chunk of ribs left this size haha. 1kg really is 1kg.

![Pork galbi browning nicely over charcoal](https://img.superchart.com/images/baeksanu-sutbul-wolseong-pork-ribs/baeksanu-sutbul-wolseong-pork-ribs-14-1kd2l-900.webp)

Taking a bite, there was zero sense of the sauce just sitting on the surface! Looking closely at the meat, the knife scores are cut much more densely than typical pork galbi. That's probably why the sauce isn't just coating the outside — it's soaked all the way through.

Chewing into it, the outside was nicely browned over charcoal while the sweet-and-salty sauce flavor carried all the way to the center — delicious 🔥 I'd wondered why they cut the scores on the ribs so densely, but one bite and it made total sense haha.

### The ssamjang Baeksanu Sutbul makes in-house

Wrapping it up to eat, the ssamjang (dipping sauce) stood out as especially good. I asked the owner and was told it's made in-house at the restaurant. A little ssamjang on the pork galbi, wrapped up with onion — 👍

## Adding 500g pre-grilled and finishing with doenjang jjigae

We meant to stop after the 1kg... but ended up ordering a half portion more haha. This time we went pre-grilled instead of cooking it ourselves 🔥 You've got to eat this much meat, right 😆 Since it came pre-grilled, it was easy to just give it a light finishing sear at the end.

![Additional 500g of pre-grilled pork galbi](https://img.superchart.com/images/baeksanu-sutbul-wolseong-pork-ribs/baeksanu-sutbul-wolseong-pork-ribs-18-jahb1-900.webp)

After eating our fill of pork galbi, a hot spoonful of doenjang jjigae to finish — you really can't skip doenjang jjigae after meat haha. The broth was on the spicy side, which made it a good way to wrap up the meal. And that was it: 1kg of pork galbi plus 500g more, and doenjang jjigae to finish it all off properly!

## Is Baeksanu Sutbul good for a family meal with kids?

Baeksanu Sutbul Wolsong Main Branch also has a separate kids' play area on one side 👶 As in the photo, there are claw machines and arcade games, and right next to it there's even a slushie machine 🥤 With things kids would love all gathered in one spot after the meat, it looked like a good fit for eating out with kids or visiting as a family.

## Final verdict on Baeksanu Sutbul Wolsong Main Branch

I think seasoned galbi is a dish where both the sauce and the meat itself need to be good. At Baeksanu Sutbul, the dense knife scores on the meat meant the sauce didn't just sit on the surface but soaked in properly, and yet it wasn't a rib where all you tasted was strong sauce flavor.

Half sauce, half meat — you could feel the owner's effort to not let either one slip. We ended up ordering the Real Pork Galbi 1kg and adding 500g more haha. We grilled the first round ourselves and tried the added portion pre-grilled, and since you can choose pre-grilled, it'd be a good option for anyone who wants an easier meal.

On top of that, with a playroom and even slushies, it was a place that suited a family outing with kids well too. Ate my fill of pork galbi and finished it off properly with doenjang jjigae! I think this is the place that'll come to mind next time I'm craving pork galbi in Wolseong-dong :)
