I was on the hunt for a sushi place near Yeungnam University and finally made it to Sonsi Sushi's Yeungnam branch. I'd been meaning to go for a while, haha. Omakase always makes me worry about the price first, but this place looked like it could be enjoyed more casually, which made me even more curious.

On weekdays you can park roadside next to Mega Coffee, and on weekends and holidays roadside in front of the store. The lot you can use anytime is the Joyeong-dong public parking lot, about an 8-minute walk from the store. They say there's room for about one car beside the store too. I just parked right on the road around the corner.

When I walked in it was already almost full. Definitely a popular spot, haha. The space is on the small side but clean, and luckily one seat was open so I sat right down :)

## Sonsi Sushi menu and lunch special prices

The menu ranges from basic sushi sets to aged sushi sets, maki, noodles, tempura, and sides, so you can pick to your taste. The sushi sets run roughly ₩12,500 to ₩18,500, giving you that omakase feel without the omakase price tag! There's also a separate lunch special from 11:30 to 13:30. The raw fish rice bowl is ₩9,900, and a set with several dishes together starts at ₩24,900 — looked like a solid lineup for lunch, haha.

🍣 What we actually ordered

- Premium aged sushi 12pc — ₩18,500
- Thick salmon nigiri 8pc — ₩15,000
- Sonsi futomaki 5pc — ₩10,000
- Handmade sauce fried shrimp — ₩5,000
- Zero Pepsi — ₩2,000

## Premium aged sushi, 12 pieces, 18,500 won

Salmon, tuna, white fish, eel, and even egg nigiri — a whole variety spread out evenly on one plate, so I spent a while deciding what to eat first, haha. With so many types of fish, there's more fun in mixing and matching than just eating one kind of nigiri.

## Thick salmon nigiri, 8 pieces, 15,000 won, with torched salmon of your choice

![Plate of thick salmon nigiri, 8 pieces](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongsan-yeungnam-sonsi-sushi-salmon/gyeongsan-yeungnam-sonsi-sushi-salmon-12-mj95n-750.webp)

![Close-up of thick salmon piled on nigiri](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongsan-yeungnam-sonsi-sushi-salmon/gyeongsan-yeungnam-sonsi-sushi-salmon-13-18ndf-899.webp)

Sushi rice is sometimes so generous it's hard to eat in one bite, but here the rice amount is just right, so it goes down in a single mouthful! And true to its name, the salmon is so thick, haha — one bite and your mouth is full, chewing away happily 😋

![Torched salmon nigiri](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongsan-yeungnam-sonsi-sushi-salmon/gyeongsan-yeungnam-sonsi-sushi-salmon-14-tqor8-899.webp)

Can't skip the salmon lightly torched with a blowtorch, haha. You can choose how many pieces of torched salmon you want when ordering. The surface gets a faint smoky char, giving it a different appeal from the raw salmon.

## Sonsi futomaki, 5 slices, 10,000 won

![Cross-section of Sonsi futomaki packed with fillings](https://img.superchart.com/images/gyeongsan-yeungnam-sonsi-sushi-salmon/gyeongsan-yeungnam-sonsi-sushi-salmon-15-yqzqb-900.webp)

This is really not just any regular gimbap (seaweed rice roll), haha. Packed with salmon, tuna, egg, and fried shrimp, the cross-section alone looks different from the usual. It's quite big to eat in one bite, but with so many ingredients coming together in each chew, the texture was great and fun to eat, haha.

After eating sushi, you sometimes get a slight fishy taste left in your mouth, but they had mouthwash and candy ready for the finish! This kind of small thoughtfulness is quietly nice, haha. I left with a fresh, clean mouth :)

## Is Sonsi Sushi worth a return visit?

Personally, the thick salmon nigiri, with more salmon than rice, was my favorite. The rice portion was just right for one-bite eating, and switching between raw and torched salmon was fun too, haha. The futomaki was packed inside, so it's great to order alongside the nigiri when sushi alone isn't quite enough. The two of us filled up on sushi, futomaki, and fried shrimp. If you're looking for a good sushi spot near Yeungnam University, this one's worth checking out. As someone who loves salmon, I'd definitely come back :)
