Trying to figure out where to have lunch, I headed to Suksudaega, a Korean set-meal restaurant I'd known about for a while. It's a place with lovely hanok vibes and neatly plated food, so it comes to mind whenever I want to have an unhurried meal with someone. The pretty garden and quiet hanok right from the entrance really caught my eye. 😊 This time we ordered one braised king rib set and one dried croaker set. The course starts with porridge and dongchimi (radish water kimchi), followed by salad, vinegared vegetables, japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), jeon (pan-fried fritters) and tteokgalbi (rib patties), before the main dish and cauldron rice come out at the end. Part of the fun of a Korean set meal is trying a bit of everything. Chunky ribs in the braised king rib dish, and golden-grilled dried croaker. 🥩🐟 The braised ribs weren't the soupy style but came out generously portioned, topped with sliced scallions that made it look even more appetizing. With cauldron rice, doenjang soup and various side dishes served alongside, the real meal was now starting! 😋 ### Braised king rib set, 39,000 won 🥩 Suksudaega's braised king rib set comes with whole chunky rib bones. The size of the ribs alone is something else haha. The sweetish brown sauce topped with sliced scallions made my mouth water just looking at it. The sauce comes generously too, which goes great with rice, right? 😋 ### Beopseongpo dried croaker set, 39,000 won 🐟 The Beopseongpo dried croaker set came with a whole golden-grilled croaker. Pulling it apart a bit with tongs revealed plump white flesh! The meat was fairly thick too, making it fun to pick apart haha. With salty croaker and a spoonful of warm cauldron rice, you don't need any other side dish. 😋 With the cauldron rice served too, it really felt like an endless set meal! We scooped out the warm rice separately, then poured water over the scorched rice left in the pot to finish with sungnyung (scorched rice tea). Even when full, that savory sungnyung still went down easily. 😋 ## Is Suksudaega worth it for lunch with a friend? Suksudaega has a pretty hanok garden and private rooms where you can chat comfortably, so it worked well as a lunch spot with a friend. The braised king rib and dried croaker sets we had are 39,000 won each, but keep in mind you can also enjoy the weekday lunch special set starting at 19,000 won! It's good for a casual lunch, but also works well for bringing parents or for special occasions if you go with the set-meal menu.
