## In short

Tareudang is a takeout-only dessert shop on the Meister High School lane off Hwangnidang-gil in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk. The writer lined up at the 11am opening, bought peach, chocolate, and mango yogurt mochi plus an egg tart, then ate them in the shade near Daereungwon and back at the guesthouse. Mango yogurt mochi was the favorite, and the thin, chewy mochi skin and layered pastry tart shell stood out.

Today's the second dessert stop from our family trip to Gyeongju! Let me write up my review of Tareudang's fruit mochi and egg tart.

- Overall verdict

## Tareudang's location, hours, and parking on Hwangnidang-gil

We got to Gyeongju around 11am, and there were so many people, haha. Parking took a bit of time, but my husband stayed with the car so I could hop out first to buy dessert.

The shop isn't on the main street of Hwangnidang-gil but on the lane leading into the Meister High School. Parking is... well, you know Hwangnidang-gil — you drive around and grab a spot fast, or park in a public lot and walk! The shop is open from 11 to 7, and closes early once ingredients run out.

![Customers lined up in front of Tareudang at 11am](https://img.superchart.com/images/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart-02-nsmgm-m-900.webp)

Even from far away I could see people lined up! Somehow we ended up doing an open-run, haha. But once 11am hit, the line moved fast.

![Inside Tareudang with no seating and the display case](https://img.superchart.com/images/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart-04-sz5ej-900.webp)

## Inside the shop and the menu, starring the Hwangnam Daewang mochi

There's no seating in the shop. The Hwangnam Daewang mochi ("Great King" mochi) seems to be the famous one — seeing it in person, I was genuinely shocked by the size! They had peach, fresh chocolate, mango yogurt, kiwi, and more, seemingly made with whatever fruit is in season. It's fig season, but they were sold out of figs — so disappointing, haha.

But it's not just mochi! They also sell tarts.

![Showcase with different types of Tareudang tarts](https://img.superchart.com/images/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart-07-1fodk-900.webp)

I'm an egg tart addict, so of course I got one of those too, haha.

## Fruit mochi in the shade near Daereungwon

With mochi in hand, we made it to Daereungwon!

![Shady tree spot near Daereungwon](https://img.superchart.com/images/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart-09-1j2fn-900.webp)

We found a spot under the shade and gently laid out the mochi we'd brought.

So cute all lined up, right? And the size is just insane... They're about ₩7,000 each, and now I get why.

![Four Tareudang mochi lined up to compare sizes](https://img.superchart.com/images/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart-11-ho3jp-900.webp)

### Peach mochi

The first one I tried was the peach mochi!

![Cross-section of peach mochi with half a peach inside](https://img.superchart.com/images/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart-12-rm9gv-900.webp)

There's almost half a whole peach inside... seriously huge, so my husband and I split it and suddenly felt full (lie). I think what makes Tareudang's mochi special is exactly that thin, chewy skin. Soft and springy — the texture is a work of art.

### Chocolate mochi

Next up, the chocolate mochi!

![Fresh chocolate mochi taken out of its packaging](https://img.superchart.com/images/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart-14-n4gsv-900.webp)

Chocolate and mochi together — would it even work...? Needless worry. It was so good, haha.

![Chocolate mochi packed full of chocolate filling](https://img.superchart.com/images/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart-15-rwobz-900.webp)

Packed full of deep chocolate filling! I thought it'd be way too rich, but it wasn't as heavy as expected, and not overly sweet either, which I liked even more.

![Cross-section showing the deep chocolate filling](https://img.superchart.com/images/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart-16-y6wny-900.webp)

Looking at it again makes me want another bite.

![Chocolate mochi that looks tempting all over again](https://img.superchart.com/images/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart-17-1vmlh-900.webp)

### Mango yogurt mochi

Next, I tried the mango yogurt mochi!

![The mango yogurt mochi chosen as the favorite](https://img.superchart.com/images/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart-18-nvk7e-900.webp)

But... I ate this one so fast I didn't get a cross-section shot. That's because out of the four I bought, this was my absolute favorite. I kept insisting to my husband that this one was the best, haha. No photo, but here's a heartfelt review anyway! The mango was generously sized (and so soft), sweet in just the right amount, and the yogurt filling cuts through the sweetness perfectly.

![Gyeongju travel scenery while eating mochi on the go](https://img.superchart.com/images/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart-19-1okff-900.webp)

## The egg tart, saved for the guesthouse

Munching on mochi the whole way, we made it to our guesthouse for the day!

![Dessert taken out after arriving at the Gyeongju guesthouse](https://img.superchart.com/images/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart/tardang-gyeongju-hwangnidan-mochi-eggtart-20-19n3j-900.webp)

Got a little hungry before dinner (after eating all that...). So I finally pulled out the last remaining tart.

Take a look at the cross-section~~~~~~ See how packed the filling is????? The tart shell seems to be made with a pastry dough — the crisp, layered pastry had a really great texture.

The nicely browned custard part was also seriously delicious.

Sorry, but I didn't share this one with my husband — ate it all myself.

## Overall verdict — how long is the wait, really?

Are you heading to Gyeongju? YES. Going to Hwangnidang-gil? YES. Do you like dessert? YES. If it's all YES, definitely visit! If you show up right at 11am, the line moves fast and you'll get your order quickly. Since you're just paying for finished, ready-made items, the wait ends up being pretty short.

We finished off everything we bought from Tareudang, went splashing around in the water with the baby... this Gyeongju trip made us so happy. Tareudang, especially the mango yogurt mochi, was so, so good... ♡
