## In short

Cafe Dongyi Branch 1 is a Korean home-style set-meal restaurant in the SK Leaders View building in Dusan-dong, Suseong-gu, Daegu, right in front of Hwanggeum Station. The writer ordered the solo-grill jeyuk bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork) set and the grilled bulgogi set at 12,900 won each plus a mini tasting tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) at 9,900 won, with unlimited fried eggs and rice, and the smoky charcoal-grilled pork was the standout over rice. Cafe Dongyi Branch 1 is the pick for a tidy, filling Korean spread in Daegu, and the glutinous rice tangsuyuk is the side to add.

On September 13, 2026, I visited Cafe Dongyi Branch 1, in front of Hwanggeum Station in Dusan-dong, Suseong-gu, Daegu. It's located at 95 Dongdaegu-ro, Suseong SK Leaders View, Suseong-gu, Daegu, South Korea, open daily 11:00–21:00 with a break time of 15:00–16:30. Parking is free for 2 hours if you park at the Hwanggeum Homeplus lot.

## Where is Cafe Dongyi Branch 1, and where do you park?

Cafe Dongyi is a long-standing favorite in Hwanggeum-dong, located in the SK Leaders View commercial building right in front of Hwanggeum Station. I first came here on a recommendation about ten years ago, and this was my first visit back in quite a while.

Ah, one note — even though the name has "cafe" in it, this isn't a cafe. It's a restaurant serving neat, home-style Korean set meals.

Park in the Homeplus Hwanggeum branch lot below the building for 2 hours free, then take the elevator or stairs up — Cafe Dongyi is right on the main street (next to Coffee Myeongga).

## Inside Cafe Dongyi: open kitchen and split-level seating

Cafe Dongyi Branch 1 has an open kitchen on the first floor where you can watch the cooking, and a split-level layout: two small 2-person tables on the first floor, and group tables seating up to 8 on the second floor.

It's cozy and charming, but going up to the second floor could be difficult for anyone with mobility issues or elderly guests.

## Cafe Dongyi menu: solo set meals and a kids' set

Cafe Dongyi's menu is built around solo sets — jeyuk bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork), grilled pork bulgogi, doenjang jjigae, kimchi jjigae, and more — each served as an individual set meal. There's also an affordable kids' set for ages 3–7, so it seemed like a good option for a family meal too.

Cafe Dongyi is a Korean restaurant, but the one thing you must order here is the tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork). Since there was a mini tasting portion available alongside the solo grill jeyuk bokkeum set and the grilled bulgogi set, we ordered one small mini tangsuyuk.

## Unlimited fried eggs and rice at Cafe Dongyi

At Cafe Dongyi you can fry up as many eggs as you want, and even though this is a rice-focused restaurant, the rice itself is also unlimited.

## What we ordered at Cafe Dongyi and what it cost

- [Solo grill] Dongyi grilled bulgogi set ₩12,900
- [Solo grill] Dongyi grilled jeyuk bokkeum set ₩12,900
- Mini tasting tangsuyuk ₩9,900

![Table set with both doenjang jjigae and kimchi jjigae](https://img.superchart.com/images/cafe-dongi-hwanggeum-grilled-jeyuk-set/cafe-dongi-hwanggeum-grilled-jeyuk-set-16-1utvm-966.webp)

(Left) Grilled bulgogi / (Right) Grilled jeyuk bokkeum. We kept one with the default doenjang jjigae and swapped the other for kimchi jjigae for an extra thousand won. The doenjang jjigae tasted like it had a cheonggukjang (fermented soybean) base, and the kimchi jjigae was loaded with pork.

The solo grill set comes standard with three side dishes — pickled gungchae (aster stem), stir-fried anchovies, and dried radish strips — plus omija tea (five-flavor berry tea) to drink for dessert.

## Grilled jeyuk bokkeum vs. bulgogi: which set wins?

The grilled bulgogi is soy-sauce based, while the grilled jeyuk bokkeum is gochujang (red pepper paste) based — and honestly, we both liked the jeyuk bokkeum a lot more. It had a stronger smoky char and the sauce was slightly spicy-sweet, genuinely dangerous for how much rice it made us eat.

Cooking over the grill also meant the meat stayed warm right until the last bite, which I really appreciated.

## Why the glutinous rice tangsuyuk is a must-order

Dongyi has long been famous for its glutinous rice tangsuyuk. It's a Korean restaurant, but the tangsuyuk holds its own against Chinese restaurants — made with glutinous rice, it's crispy yet chewy, and the sauce is mild, just slightly tangy and sweet rather than sharp.

From the full set meal to the mini tangsuyuk, we finished the meal completely full and completely satisfied.

Cafe Dongyi, the home-style Korean restaurant near Hwanggeum Station in Daegu, started as Branch 1 here about ten years ago and has since grown into a chain across Daegu that many people have come to trust. It's a Daegu Korean restaurant I'd recommend when you want a neat, filling set meal, and the glutinous rice tangsuyuk is so good — don't forget to order it as a side!
