I'd heard Filling Donkatsu in Gwangju was famous — apparently it made it onto a nationwide donkatsu map of must-visit spots. So I went to check out the Cheomdan location.

Filling Donkatsu, a donkatsu restaurant well-known in the Cheomdan area, is a directly-operated shop that's been running for 4 years — not a franchise. They handle everything themselves, from menu development to service, with real care.

## Where is Filling Donkatsu in Cheomdan, and where do you park at IBC?

Filling Donkatsu Gwangju Cheomdan Direct Store is in Room 207, 2nd floor, Building A of the IBC Knowledge Industry Center, near Cheomdan Sports Park and Megabox. Hours are 11:00–20:30, with a break time from 3 to 5pm, and it's closed every Monday.

Parking at Filling Donkatsu Cheomdan is available both above-ground and underground in the IBC building. It's free for 1 hour on weekdays and 2 hours on weekends. (The parking lot is in Building B of the IBC building.)

Filling Donkatsu is clearly a place that's put a lot of research into their cutlets, unlike ordinary chain restaurants. Instead of just pounding the meat thin and wide to make it look big, they age it to achieve a thick yet tender cutlet. (So true — a lot of "king-size" donkatsu places are huge but paper-thin, with none of that meaty chew...)

## What time should you go to avoid the lunch wait?

During peak hours Filling Donkatsu Cheomdan gets so busy there's a wait — it's especially known as a lunch spot in Cheomdan. So we went a bit after 1pm, during a late lunch slot. The interior has a classic, cozy feel.

A group of customers had just left and staff were busy tidying up one of the rooms, so I took a photo once it was cleared. High chairs are available, so you can bring young kids.

The room space at Filling Donkatsu Cheomdan felt really upscale and pretty. Families, office workers, and group gatherings could all eat comfortably here.

## What is on the free self-bar at Filling Donkatsu?

There's also a self-bar at Filling Donkatsu Cheomdan. It has salad vegetables and simple side dishes like kimchi, diced radish kimchi (kkakdugi), and pickled radish.

There's also soup, broth, and toast, so you can eat generously with no extra charge.

Soup and salad get set down first. If it's not enough, you can use the self-bar. The soup at Filling Donkatsu was smooth and delicious — I even went back for a refill~^^

Filling Donkatsu's signature menu items in Gwangju include ssam donkatsu, onion donkatsu, and tenderloin katsu. Apparently the pasta and risotto are all delicious too, not just the cutlets — I almost had decision paralysis!^^

### Mushroom cream pasta at Filling Donkatsu

The mushroom cream pasta is a rigatoni dish that highlights fresh button mushrooms and a rich cream sauce.

I picked it because it's apparently the best pasta on the menu at Filling Donkatsu Cheomdan, and I'd also been craving rigatoni cream pasta for a while.

The rich cream sauce, full of mushroom aroma, was really delicious. You can add truffle oil, but honestly the button mushroom flavor alone gave plenty of depth. The rigatoni's texture was great too — it had been a while since I had such a good cream pasta.

### King cheese donkatsu with 200-hour aged pork

This is Filling Donkatsu's king cheese donkatsu. Apparently the thick meat, aged for 200 hours, is packed full of mozzarella cheese.

Thick and hefty, it really looked appetizing~ This is exactly how donkatsu should be — thick!!

Cheese pouring out from within the thick cutlet... and the quality meat wrapping the cheese was nice and thick too.

The meat was thick, and the cheese was really packed in generously.

With cheese donkatsu, sometimes the meat ends up disappointingly thin, but at Filling Donkatsu even the cheese cutlet had a nice meat thickness — really delicious.

### Adding one piece of tenderloin katsu as a side

My husband wanted cheese donkatsu, but I wanted to try Filling Donkatsu's basic version too. Since you normally can't add a side to a regular donkatsu order, we ordered a tenderloin katsu (1 piece) as a side instead. This tenderloin katsu is aged 200 hours, fried crisp while keeping the meat moist and juicy.

Wow... it was SO tender. This was the first time a donkatsu melted in my mouth like that. Personally I usually prefer loin cutlet, but it had been a while since I had such a genuinely delicious tenderloin katsu. The mustard sauce is the key with the tenderloin katsu~:)

## Is Filling Donkatsu Cheomdan worth it? Honest verdict

Thanks to the quality, thick cutlets and the deep, rich cream pasta, it was a really enjoyable meal. With soft-serve ice cream or an Americano available for dessert too, this was a clean, satisfying finish — my honest review of Filling Donkatsu, a Cheomdan favorite~:)
