## Looking for a chicken stew restaurant to visit with a child in Seongjeong-dong

Sottture in Seongjeong-dong, Cheonan is a Korean restaurant where you can get dakdoritang (spicy braised chicken stew) alongside side dishes like pork cutlet, potato pancake, dumplings, and rolled omelet, which makes it possible to dine out with a kid. I really love chicken, my husband loves pizza, and our son loves both chicken and pizza haha.

Even though we'd had fried chicken the day before, the next day I wanted chicken again — can you believe it? This time I wasn't craving fried chicken but dakdoritang, so I went on a search spree for the best dakdoritang spot in Seongjeong-dong.

But dakdoritang is a pretty spicy dish, so I figured it might be a bit much for our son to eat with us. We eat out with our kid often, so we prefer restaurants that have kid-friendly menu items alongside the main dishes. After a lot of searching, I found Sottture in Seongjeong-dong.

Sottture had a variety of dishes that would work well for a kid, not just dakdoritang but also pork cutlet, potato pancake, dumplings, and rolled omelet. 'This is the place!' I thought, and decided right then and there. ^^

## Is parking easy at Sottture in Seongjeong-dong?

Sottture has a parking space set up behind the building. Seongjeong-dong is one of those areas where even good restaurants can sometimes have disappointing parking.

When visiting with a kid, the food matters, but so does easy parking — it's a quietly important factor. I was glad I could worry a little less about it.

## Sottture's menu and what our family of three ordered

Sottture's whole chicken stew (dakhanmari) is a dish meant for 2–3 people, so we ordered that first, then added pork cutlet and potato pancake so our son could eat too. Once we sat down and looked over the menu board, there really was a wide variety of dishes.

Not just dakdoritang but several side dishes too, which made it a great place to visit as a family. Ordering a variety of dishes made the table look like it would be full and satisfying, which got us excited. We must have been really hungry.

## The banchan (side dishes) at Sottture won us over first

The basic banchan (side dishes) at Sottture were mayonnaise salad and kimchi. After ordering, we waited a bit and the side dishes were set out one by one — mayonnaise salad isn't common these days, so I was happy to see one of my favorites show up.

The kimchi was tasty too, so we kept picking at things even before the main dishes arrived. But there was something I was especially grateful for. Even though we hadn't asked, the staff made sure to arrange things so our kid could eat comfortably too.

When you're out with a kid, this kind of small consideration means a lot from a mom's perspective. It put me in a good mood even before the meal started. ^^

## The dakdoritang arrives: how spicy is it really?

Sottture's dakdoritang surprised my husband and me — neither of us handle spicy food well — from the very first bite. The dishes we'd been waiting for finally started arriving one by one: dakdoritang, potato pancake, and pork cutlet!

Seeing the table fill up with food was reassuring just to look at. The dakdoritang in particular looked amazing. My husband and I aren't great with spicy food, so I was a little worried, but the first bite made me think,

> Oh my, this is way spicier than I expected.

haha. My husband and I both scrunched up our faces from the spice, and yet neither of us stopped eating... there was something charming about that.

It's spicy but keeps pulling you back for more! Even writing this now, I suddenly want it again. And the potatoes in the dakdoritang were really delicious too — fluffy on the inside and properly soaked in sauce, so I ended up eating all the potatoes myself haha.

## Pork cutlet and potato pancake, the kid-friendly dishes

We ordered Sottture's pork cutlet for our son since he couldn't handle the spicy dakdoritang, and he ate it better than expected. Since it's not a pork cutlet specialty restaurant, I didn't expect much, but surprisingly, our son ate it up quite well.

One of the dishes I'd been most looking forward to was the potato pancake. It was a bit different from a typical potato pancake — fried in oil until crispy — so the outside was crunchy and the inside stayed soft, which I really liked.

Above all, the combination of dakdoritang and potato pancake worked really well together. One spicy bite of dakdoritang followed by a crispy bite of potato pancake — they seemed to balance each other out perfectly.

## Finishing with rice mixed into the leftover Sottture broth

You can't just leave the dakdoritang broth behind, haha. Mixing rice into the sauce and stirring it up was also a real treat. After eating the chicken and potatoes and then mixing rice into the broth, we ended up completely full before we knew it.

When eating out with a kid, delicious food matters, but whether there's something the kid can eat is really important too — and Sottture in Seongjeong-dong seemed like a place where parents craving dakdoritang and their kids could visit together comfortably.

If you're a family like us who loves spicy dakdoritang but struggles with menu choices because of your kid, I'd recommend ordering something like pork cutlet or potato pancake alongside it. Above all, the dakdoritang that surprised me with its spiciness at first is a flavor that keeps coming to mind the more you eat it — I'm sure I'll be craving it again soon haha.
