## In short

Jeonju House is a pork belly and aged kimchi restaurant in an alley off Oncheon-ro in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, at the far end of the rear gate of Gyeryong Spatel. The order was three servings of pork belly, cast-iron pot rice and a ₩2,000 doenjang stew (soybean paste stew), with the cast-iron grill plate greased with pork fat so the meat and 50-year aged kimchi cooked together, and side dishes like seasoned dried pollack, fresh-dressed lettuce and pickled onion tasted especially homemade. Jeonju House is a good stop whenever the classic pairing of well-fermented kimchi and pork belly comes to mind.

## Finding an aged-kimchi pork belly restaurant near Yuseong Oncheon Station

I really love the combo of pork belly grilled together with well-fermented kimchi. Craving that fatty meat topped with soft, aged kimchi, I went looking for places near Yuseong Oncheon Station.

Browsing the Naver Map app, I noticed a BBQ place tucked in an alley off Oncheon-ro in Yuseong-gu that serves aged kimchi alongside the meat. It had a homey name — Jeonju House — and the reviews kept mentioning how good the aged kimchi was.

I headed there right when I got hungry in the evening. It's near the Oncheon-ro restaurant alley, so it was easy enough to find, and as soon as I arrived I could hear a company dinner going on upstairs — that got my hopes up!

A restaurant popular for company dinners = a genuinely good restaurant. That formula almost never fails, haha.

## What's on the menu at Jeonju House?

The menu is mainly pork belly, aged kimchi stew, and hot pot! We were craving meat, so we ordered pork belly for 3, plus pot rice and doenjang stew!

The table next to us ordered a lot of the stew and hot pot too, haha. After a short wait, the side dishes arrived.

### The side dishes and the ₩2,000 doenjang stew

Jeonju House really has a ton of side dishes and they were all delicious! In particular, that red-seasoned dried pollack, the dressed lettuce salad, and the pickled onion — those three were seriously good.

It didn't taste artificial at all — you could tell it was homemade, which I loved. The doenjang stew was only ₩2,000 but had such a rich, deep homemade soybean paste flavor, and I was surprised by how much stuff was in it.

We ordered 2 servings of pork belly first, so the amount in the photo is for 2 people.

## Grilling pork belly and 50-year aged kimchi on the cast-iron plate

They greased the cast-iron lid with pork fat first, then grilled the meat and aged kimchi together, haha.

(Eating garlic and kimchi together with the meat was seriously wild...) The meat itself had no gamey smell and was nice and chewy, and the ratio of fat to lean meat was just right, so I never got tired of it even by the end.

## What was good and what fell short at Jeonju House

What I liked most was, of course, the level of fermentation in the aged kimchi — cool and deep in flavor. When grilled, it wasn't just kimchi that burns, it was kimchi that came alive with savoriness alongside the fragrant pork fat.

The interior wasn't cluttered and had a comfortable feel, making it a nice place to chat with company over a meal. The owner also kindly kept refilling the side dishes we needed, so I felt good throughout the meal.

One drawback though: since it's tucked inside an alley, finding dedicated parking was a bit of a hassle. It seems easier to take public transit nearby or check a public parking lot ahead of time rather than driving.

Also, during the evening peak hours the tables can feel a little close together, so if you want a quieter atmosphere, I'd recommend an early evening visit. Still, it had plenty of that lively BBQ-restaurant energy for a satisfying meal.

## Verdict: an easy, hearty meat meal in Yuseong, Daejeon

Jeonju House is a good place to stop by casually when you're craving the classic combo of well-fermented aged kimchi and savory pork belly. It felt more like a hearty, back-to-basics meal than meat dressed up with fancy tricks.

Thanks to the kimchi's deep flavor that wasn't overly sharp, I enjoyed every last bite of pork belly without getting tired of it. The side dishes were seasoned just right too, so my stomach felt comfortable the whole way through the meal.
