We shared chadol yukgaejang and gopchang-filled yukgaejang, and the seemingly endless gopchang was especially impressive. Verdict: a satisfying meal for a day when you crave gopchang and hot broth. Today, I’m sharing my visit to Yukdaejang, where I went in Cheonan because I was craving a hot, spicy broth. I visited with my boyfriend, and since we both wanted something soupy, we chose yukgaejang (spicy shredded-beef soup). ## Ordering gopchang-filled yukgaejang and chadol yukgaejang Yukdaejang has several kinds of yukgaejang, so after looking over the menu, I ordered the gopchang-filled yukgaejang while my boyfriend got the chadol yukgaejang. It was nice for two people to eat together, and it felt like an easy place to visit whenever you’re craving a warm bowl of soup. Once we sat down and looked through the menu, I saw that they had a variety of dishes beyond yukgaejang, so I wanted to try something else next time. This wasn’t just a yukgaejang with “gopchang-filled” in the name—it was truly packed with gopchang, exactly as advertised. With dishes like this, even if the name says “filled,” it can sometimes look like there’s less than expected, which is disappointing. But I didn’t get that feeling here at all. I picked up a piece to try, and it had a wonderfully chewy texture. It paired so well with the spicy yukgaejang broth. The distinctive nutty flavor of the gopchang especially added something different from regular yukgaejang. The broth was spicy and rich, so it was great with rice, and because there was so much gopchang, every spoonful came with plenty of ingredients. I’m the type to pick out and eat the ingredients first when I have yukgaejang, and I was so happy that even after continuously eating gopchang that day, more kept coming out. This is a dish that made me think, “So that’s why it’s called gopchang-filled!” If you love gopchang, I think you’ll be highly satisfied by the portion alone. I tried the broth by itself first, then mixed in rice little by little. As expected, I think yukgaejang tastes best with rice. The spicy broth soaks into the rice and makes it even tastier. I also tried a bite of my boyfriend’s chadol yukgaejang, and the chadol made the broth feel a little nuttier and heartier. Since we ordered different dishes, it was fun to trade bites and compare them. Personally, the gopchang-filled yukgaejang I ordered was the most memorable dish that day. Above all, there was truly so much gopchang! There was enough in it that anyone who loves gopchang can see the menu name and get excited—it was a satisfying amount. If you’re looking for yukgaejang or a spicy broth dish in Cheonan, Yukdaejang is worth a visit! If you love gopchang like I do, I really recommend trying the gopchang-filled yukgaejang at least once. It was genuinely full of gopchang just as the name says, so it felt like I got to eat my fill of it from start to finish. The chadol yukgaejang my boyfriend had was also nutty and filling, so I think it would suit anyone who likes chadol. Since we each ordered a different yukgaejang, I could see that every dish had its own appeal, and it made me want to try something else next time. When you’re craving a spicy, filling meal in Cheonan—especially if you love gopchang—I recommend Yukdaejang’s gopchang-filled yukgaejang 🤍 Even on my next visit, I think this is the first dish I’ll order again.
