## In short

Dongbaek Seokgalbi Asan Main Branch is a premium seokgalbi (stone-grilled beef short rib) restaurant on Chungmu-ro in Gwongok-dong, Asan. The lunch special woo seokgalbi table for two runs 35,000 won per person, and the standard bowl of rice can be swapped for sotbap (rice cooked in a stone pot); the meal arrives like a course, from monkfish fritters and seasonal jeon to a nurungji and plum tea finish. Because the ribs come out fully grilled, no smoke clings to your clothes, which makes Dongbaek Seokgalbi an easy choice for a return visit with parents.

## Where is Dongbaek Seokgalbi in Asan, and where do you park?

Dongbaek Seokgalbi is a premium seokgalbi (stone-grilled short rib) restaurant at 100 Chungmu-ro in Gwongok-dong, Asan. There's parking inside the building, and a small lot on the right side of the building too. It's also close to the Onyang Folk Museum, so it's perfect for stopping by with family after visiting nearby attractions!

If the lot is full, there's a large dedicated parking lot behind the main building at 525-11 Gwongok-dong, about a 3-minute walk to the restaurant. With this much parking available, you really don't need to worry.

I was even more excited to hear that Dongbaek Seokgalbi in Asan is run by two people — one from the Grand Hyatt Seoul, and another who took first place on Baek Jong-won's Alley Restaurant Jeju Survival.

## Inside Dongbaek Seokgalbi: private rooms for family gatherings

The inside of Dongbaek Seokgalbi was wider and cleaner than I expected. It has an open kitchen where you can watch the chef cooking, making it a great spot to bring your parents for a meal.

There are also several private rooms in the back where you can eat quietly, so if you're looking for a space for a family gathering or a business meeting, keep that in mind.

## What comes with the 35,000 won lunch special galbi set?

Dongbaek Seokgalbi's three signature dishes are woo seokgalbi, wusaeng seokgalbi, and dongbaek seokgalbi, along with a great-value lunch special and solo courses like jinji-sang and janchi-sang. We ordered two servings of the lunch special woo seokgalbi table and swapped the plain rice for sotbap (hot-pot rice).

If you take part in the Naver receipt review event, you can choose between grilled mackerel, alcohol, or a drink, so keep that in mind when you visit.

## Banchan side dishes, monkfish fritters and seasonal jeon

The banchan (side dishes) at Dongbaek Seokgalbi came out neat and tidy — plated so nicely I felt pampered. There was dipping sauce for the seokgalbi, side dishes, and fresh lettuce wraps too!

And a green onion salad, monkfish fritters, and seasonal jeon (savory pancake) all came standard!

The monkfish fritters especially were soft, nutty, and delicious. Even the basic side dishes before the seokgalbi arrived tasted great, which made me even more excited.

Woo seokgalbi table ₩35,000 x2 + sotbap upgrade

### Swapping rice for sotbap, plus the doenjang jjigae

No good hanjeongsik (Korean full-course meal) is complete without sotbap and doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew)! We swapped for sotbap — if you like it, upgrading is definitely worth it. The doenjang jjigae was savory and paired well with the seokgalbi.

## How did the woo seokgalbi taste?

Dongbaek Seokgalbi's main dish, woo seokgalbi, arrives already fully grilled, so you can eat it right away. I loved that they kept a flame on under the grill plate throughout the meal to keep the meat warm!

The woo seokgalbi comes with two rib bones, king oyster mushroom, shishito peppers, garlic, and onion all grilled together, which was great for pairing with the meat.

This was my first time trying woo seokgalbi, and the meat was so tender, with a seasoning that wasn't too strong and had a clean, light flavor. It was cooked just right too. I don't eat seokgalbi often, but this might be the best I've had.

It's tasty paired with the scallion salad or wrapped in lettuce. The meat is so tender that I think even grandparents would enjoy it easily along with parents. And what I really liked was that since it's already grilled, there's no need to cook it yourself, and you can eat cleanly without the smoke smell sticking to your clothes.

## Nurungji and plum tea finish, then 2,000 won coffee next door

After a filling finish of nurungji (scorched rice), they brought out plum tea too. It was the perfect palate cleanser.

If you show your same-day Dongbaek receipt, you can get an Americano at the wnc Café right next door for ₩2,000, so it's worth stopping by if you feel like a coffee. This visit to Dongbaek Seokgalbi turned out to be a clean, satisfying meal. At first I thought it might be a bit pricey, but the quality and taste made it well worth it — a place I'd love to revisit with my parents. If you're looking for a great hanjeongsik (Korean full-course meal) spot in Asan, I'd recommend it.
